## Overview

 Philipsburg Bay Campground is adjacent to Georgetown Lake and provides ideal access to fishing, boating and water skiing. It is located in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. Surrounded by mountains of outstanding beauty, the location is perfect for visitors who enjoy mountain and water sports or those who prefer relaxing and taking in the spectacular view. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. ## Recreation

 Canoeing and boating are popular activities at the lake. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers will find no shortage of trails within a few miles of the campground. Georgetown Lake is a prime destination for fishing and fly fishing with kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout being the most sought-after species. It is illegal to target Bull Trout, if caught they must be released immediately with minimal handling. Participants must have Montana licenses to hunt or fish. 
## Facilities

 The campground has 65 sites in total, 34 sites are reservable and 31 sites are available as first-come, first-served. Loop A and half of loop B are first-come, first-served. Loop C and half of Loop B can be reserved in advance during the summer season. It is available for RV or tent camping and is boater-friendly with paved roads and a boat ramp. ## Natural Features

 The campground overlooks the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. Georgetown Lake is a large mountain lake spanning close to 3,000 acres at an elevation of over 6,000 ft. Lodgepole pines enclose the lake and surrounding mountains, providing a home to abundant wildlife including moose, elk, white-tailed deer and even bighorn sheep. Water birds such as the graceful blue heron as well as hawks and other birds of prey also inhabit the lake area.

The Best Camping Near Philipsburg, Montana

June 20-22, 2017\. This campground has three loops. The third loop C is reservable, the other loops A and B are a first come basis. Most spots have views of the lake in a shaded area with an asphalt pad. $15 per night, good cell phone service, very clean facilities, and moose sightings daily. There is a dock for Lake access 500 yards from site. Philipsburg is a short drive where you can visit the brewery, good food, and candy store. The Discovery Bike Park is 15 minutes away, but only open Sat and Sunday.

What a beautiful campground! Next to a Great Lake, lots of space &amp; wooded tree area! We enjoyed a great campfire &amp; only stayed one night but it was great &amp; would have stayed longer if we weren’t moving on. We are in a 28’ camper. Very quiet and nice. Lots of wood for $6

Quiet & spacious!

The spots are spacious and quiet. It’s really clean and the camp hosts were nice.

Great place

Really great, quiet spot despite not being far from anything. You can hear waterfowl from the lake and nothing else but still have cell reception if you want it. 

Quiet 

Lovely spot, zero bugs, spaced apart from others, plentiful clean bathrooms, and a boat launch. I will say that the red-necked grebes had a loud raucous party all night and while it was certainly festive, kinda hard to sleep. Thinking it was a mating ritual. 

Great lakeside spot

Nice, shaded little spot on the lake.  Every site we saw was in the pines. Great for shade, terrible if you rely on solar.  Electric hookups are available, but there are only one or two sites in the whole campground with them, so for most people this is borderline boondocking.

The area is beautiful. We heard wolves after dusk and saw elk at dawn.  Fishing is good and plenty of waterfowl in the lake.  Facilities are clean.


Nice little spot

Saw a moose everyday we were here. No beach area nearby, only access to the water is the boat launch area by loop A. The water in the bay is a bit gross, but you can’t beat the views. 

No shortage of wildlife 

Philipsburg Bay Campground is a beautiful large campground right on the shore of Georgetown lake.  This 69 site campground sits among large pine trees with campsites nicely spread apart.  The large trees give you plenty of shade throughout the day.  This paved campground is split up into three loops, two of which are first come first served, the other can be reserved.  The area also has a day use area and boat launch.  Cost is $15 per night.  Campground has trash service, and water is available during the summer season.  I visited in November so no water for me.  Each site has a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Several vault toilets are located in each loop.  Bear lockers are spread out through out the campground for food storage.

This is a good campground and love the paved campsites for RV.  ￼ Very clean and camp host was very friendly. We will be back!

Great spot 

We spent a night here in June. We left a night early because a hard rain came in, but we had fun while we were there. The campground is very clean and quiet. Our kids loved the winding roads for their push bikes. The only thing we wished for was a dock, so we could easily fish with young kids. 

Quiet, wooded campsites

Great campground with some FCFS sites (loop A and 1/2 of loop B) and some reservable (1/2 of loop B and all of loop C). 

There are no campsites directly on the lake, but there is a view of it from a few of the sites and it's an easy walk through the CG to get to it.

What we really like about this campground:
Sites are spread out enough and campground is wooded, so you aren't on top of your neighbors.
Inside of the vault toilets were clean (granted we stayed at the start of the camping season)
Close proximity to the lake
3 separate loops make it kid and bike friendly
Firewood was for sale in Loop A for $5/bundle
Some of the sites have electric!
Verizon cell service was great! I had 5G most of the time.

What we didn't like so much:
We were between two vault toilets, and suffered from fumes.

Nice flat sites, clean and heavily treed for shade.

This campground has many sites shaded by lodgepole pines. The sites are far enough apart and angled to give a nice sense of privacy. Some of the sites have electric, but there is essentially no water. Vault toilets are clean. Near the water, but not on it.
