Eureka Reservoir

Managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 4, the Eureka Reservoir Fishing Access Site sits just outside Choteau and gives campers direct access to the reservoir's edge. The campground is small, no-frills, and close enough to town that resupply runs are straightforward. Choteau has a grocery store, laundromat, and a few restaurants within easy reach.

The site count is modest, around six or seven spots, with some positioned directly beside the water. Cell service is available, which is worth noting for a state fishing access site. Fees run $12 per night with a Montana fishing license, or $18 without. Anglers and campers who want water access without driving deep into the backcountry will find the setup functional. The reservoir tends to be accessible earlier in the season than nearby rivers, making it a reasonable option when high water elsewhere limits where you can get in.

Improvements were underway as of late 2025, with site leveling in progress and new sites expected by spring. Toilets are on site. "Campsites next to the water allow for tranquil nights," notes Cameron K., though the overall setup is basic rather than developed. Those heading toward Glacier National Park often use this as an overnight stop. Nearby alternatives include Bynum Reservoir to the northwest and Choteau City Park to the southeast. Arriving earlier in the season improves both site availability and water access conditions.
