Big Pine Campground

Nice campground with a bathroom and plenty of shade but there are only 4 camp spots and kind of a tough drive to get there so be aware.

This is a really nice place. A little bit more built-up than I was expecting, like more of a established campground then just dispersed camping. So it came with a pit toilet and a couple bear vaults.

The drive-in was pretty fun. A dirt/gravel road with a sheer cliff on one side. Wouldn’t want to do that in the winter!

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned it in the reviews so I want to. I do believe there’s a $10 fee. I think anyone on Montana state land like this needs to have some sort of conservation license. No one came around checking but I bought one just in case how to find the rules about that online. Nothing specific to camping but I believe just in general, for any use, the conservation license is required.

We didn't get the spot by the river but were satisfied with the one we got for our truck camper. We prefer more trail access from campground which this campground lacks. Vault toilet was clean. Big Pine tree was cool to see. We didn't go in the river but on a hot day it would be nice. River access by the Big Pine was good. Not far from I-90 which was nice.

We absolutely loved this spot! We were able to camp right on the river in a nice and level spot. The dogs loved the river! The spots were all secluded from each other so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. They were very well-maintained each had a fire ring and a camp table.

Maybe 6-7 spots for cars/trucks/vans. We fit our 170 sprinter no problem and would work for half the sites. Sign says no trailers where all the camp spots are and I would agree as there is no turn around room or ways to back in.

Sites looked clean and was very quiet while we were here for a Sunday night.

T-mobile 5G UC signal from campgrounds. Day use area has wide open sky to recharge if needed. Camp spots are shaded by trees. River access is along camp spots and also near day use area. No trails from campsite so pretty limited in exploration options, just more a beautiful place to stop for a night or 2.

Conveniently only 4 miles down a well maintained road and positioned next to the river, this campground has vault toilets and bear boxes. It’s very nice!

Heads up for trailers, the coordinates will take you to the official campground which seemed potentially a little snug, but if you take the right toward “Rivulet” at the T at the bottom of the road, there are more campsites!
