Zumbro Bottoms State Forest

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing the Zumbro River and hiking through hardwood forest are the main draws at this dispersed camping area in Kellogg, Minnesota, which also has equestrian trails running through the surrounding state forest land. Access comes via a low-maintenance dirt road, and approaching from the south is the more reliable route since the gate on the river bridge to the north is sometimes closed. Cell service is nonexistent here. Dispersed sites can be overgrown and hard to locate, but a parking area near one known site gives vehicle access directly alongside the hiking trails. Bug pressure runs high, so come prepared. Anglers and equestrian campers looking into camping near Kellogg will also find nearby options at Zumbro Bottoms North — R.J.D. Memorial Hardwood State Forest a short distance to the northwest.

Hard to find

This place wasn’t bad, but I don’t think it is Maintenanced well because all of the spots that were supposed to be dispersed camping were completely overgrown and not even recognizable. But on that note, I stayed here on a Tuesday ended up just staying right in the campground, and i was the only one there! It was technically 22 dollars, but nobody came to check on me…… Along with this, there is absolutely no service so make sure you download a map or know what your plan is! Be prepared for the most amount of bugs you will ever see(literally ever) and check the weather! I woke up to hail the same size as the ice in my cooler

State Forest Dispersed Camping

This area is off a low maintenance dirt road. It is best to come in from the south as sometimes the gate on the river bridge to the north is closed.

There is a parking spot near a known dispersed camping site with easy vehicle access next to it. There are hiking trails that pass by this site.
