The dog beach is so much better than expected

The campsites themselves are sadly devoid of much shade, and only a few even have a water view.  But the dog beach, a bit of a walk down the trail towards the lighthouse, surely exceeded our expectations.  Most places designate barely usable waterfront areas to dog beach. At first glance, the dog…

  • Our dogs don't even normally like to swim, but loved the dog beach, with it's warm shallow calm waters.

Great Location, but poor maintenance

We arrived at the campground and it’s right across the street from the beach in their day use area. You are also not far from many other beaches if you are looking for options. There is an awesome farmers market in Port Austin on Saturdays which is within 15 mins of the campground. The park ran…

Crowded but nice lake

If you’re in a camper, make sure you have an extension cord. The power is quite a ways away. There is no internet or WiFi access. The camping spaces are VERY close together so it is very cramped. The fire pits are VERY DEEP, which means you have to be right up on it to see or feel the flame 2 feet…

Peaceful retreat

Stafford County park was beautiful when we visited. We stayed on a spot right on the lake. The park was clean and quiet. The other campers were all polite and respectful of one a other and staff was very helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50)…

Good state park

Like most Michigan State Parks, you get electric (50/30) at your site, period. There's public water available at various spots, but not at your site. Rangers are a good bunch here, friendly, helpful and work to keep things in line.

Most sites are very sandy (the whole place is ancient dunes),…

Nice campground.

Not a bad campground. We stayed in the south campground on site 32. The site was sloped as it is at the bottom of a hill. Had to use quite a few blocks to level our travel trailer. I would probably not use this spot again because of it. I did note the North campground is much flatter; however it…

Worth the drive for us!

We took a group of 6 adults and 3 kids to Bay City which was a pretty good drive for us. We had a lot of fun! Park was clean and located across from the lake. There was a splash pad area for the kids which they begged to go to every day! The only bad thing was we had to drive our kayaks across the…

On the water

Well maintained. Sites are kind of tight. Well maintained facilities and it’s nice to be so close to the lake.

Pretty area

Nice campground tucked back off the road. Sites are spacious enough to open an awning, but you definitely back right up to your neighbor. People camping seemed respectful of others' space and were also pretty quiet for the amount of campers there.

They've got a heated indoor pool, jumping pillow,…

Terrible Excuse for a “Resort”

They charge per person, so I paid $75 for my boyfriend and I to tent camp on the river for the 2 night minimum required. They are money grubbers who charge per person then put multiple parties on one site. Firewood available on site is soaking wet so had a lot of issues getting a fire started.…

Family oriented

Quite the establishment! Almost 150 sites including rustic, full hook up, cabins and even just over a handful of park model units to reserve for your family to come stay and enjoy all the amenities they offer. Amenities including but not limited to horse shoes, swimming ( man dug pond) hiking,…
