Small rest stop

This is a small area, some space for trucks and cars but not many. Restrooms available, big trash can and a non potable water pump.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find dispersed camping sites in Kansas?

Dispersed camping opportunities in Kansas are limited compared to western states with large tracts of public land. Rest Area I-70 offers a simple overnight option but isn't true dispersed camping. For actual dispersed camping in Kansas, look to the state's wildlife management areas, which sometimes permit primitive camping. The Cimarron National Grassland in southwest Kansas is one of the few federal lands in the state where dispersed camping might be possible. Always check regulations before camping, as many areas require permits or have restrictions on camping locations and duration.

What camping options are available along I-70 in Kansas?

Rest Area I-70 provides a basic overnight stopping option for travelers along the interstate in Kansas. It's a small area with limited space for vehicles, primarily designed as a rest stop rather than a full campground. While driving along I-70 in Kansas, you'll find a mix of state parks, KOA campgrounds, and city/county parks offering more traditional camping experiences with more amenities. For those looking for quick overnight stops, some truck stops and Walmart locations may permit overnight parking, though policies vary by location.

Is there free camping available near Salina, Kansas?

Rest Area I-70 is a free option for brief overnight stays near the Salina area. The rest area provides basic facilities including restrooms, trash disposal, and a non-potable water pump. Space is limited, so arriving earlier in the day is recommended. Beyond this rest area, free camping options near Salina are scarce, with most established campgrounds in the region charging fees. For budget-friendly alternatives, check with local parks departments or consider Kansas state fishing lakes, which sometimes offer primitive camping at low or no cost.
