Slims Campground sits at the end of a long, slow drive through Nez Perce National Forest, reachable only after more than 15 miles of gravel and dirt roads that take upward of an hour to travel. The campground is free and managed by the US Forest Service, but road access depends on conditions and whether earlier sites along the route are open. The terrain in this part of the forest is demanding, and the area is better suited to physically fit campers than casual overnighters. Those wanting a less committing base can find places to camp around Nezperce National Forest closer to the trailhead corridor, including Nez Perce National Forest Race Creek Campground about a mile north. Check road conditions before committing to the drive.
