Trout Creek Base Camp

Description

Base Camp is found after a beautiful, picturesque drive of 30 minutes out of downtown Bonners Ferry going through the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge. You are nearly guaranteed to see Bald Eagles on the drive from town as we have multiple breeding pairs in the valley and you will be passing 3 of their nests. We also see both White-Tailed & Mule Deer on most drives along with Turkeys, and it's not uncommon to see Elk and Moose. At the top of Trout Creek, you will find Pyramid and Ball Lakes trail head. The hike to Pyramid is easy and a good day trip. Horses are also permitted.

We are entirely off-grid which gives us our direct connection to nature but also means we cannot offer full electric hookups as we run primarily on solar. We have some solar lights spread around the grounds but definitely bring your head lamps, lanterns and batteries. Arrangements can be made for power from generators during the day, but we do not allow generators to be run at night.

Base Camp is quiet and remote and lets you fall asleep to the babbling creek and breeze blowing through the treetops. Gaze at what may be happening in the sky! As wildlife is abundant, large animals rarely approach the property.

We have 4 sites total 2 for RVs up to 36 ft in length. Tent campers are welcome, pick a spot and we'll make it work. All water is pumped from the creek, and it is delicious! There is a hose, and you are welcome to fill your tanks or use the filter pitcher at the outdoor sink and prep counter. We also have a professionally maintained commode. We welcome well behaved dogs and horses. When the sun falls behind the mountain, if burning is permitted, we have a fabulous fire pit surrounded with wood benches from our fallen trees, so bring your marshmallows! Finally, we offer free Wi-Fi from Starlink, and a cell booster.

Come stay with us and make some memories!

Great proximity to trail heads

Kelly and Bill live right there but after they make sure you are all set, they leave you alone. Great for kids to explore and play in the creek. There was paint and brushes, and the kids were invited to paint a rock and plant it on the creek path. We stayed 2 nights and hiked the full day in between.
