Description

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and exceptional hiking. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet.

The most spectacular view into the canyon is an easy walk from the picnic area; however, hikers can also explore a rim trail or journey to the canyon floor by a series of staircases. Two waterfalls cascade over layers of sandstone and shale into pools below, with their flow depending on recent rains. This Waterfalls Trail is part of the popular Canyon Climbers Club.

Overnight guests can choose from cottages near the canyon edge, a modern campground and spacious, walk-in tent sites. Backpackers can enjoy camping in a hemlock grove on the 2-mile Backcountry Loop.

For reservation inquiries please call 1-800-864-7275.
For Park inquiries please contact the park at 706-657-4050

A ParkPass is required for all vehicles. Price for ParkPasses are not included with the reservation. Overnight guests pay only one ParkPass fee for the duration of their stay. The daily ParkPass is valid at all state parks visited the same day and is not valid at state historic sites.

ParkPass fees are as follow:
1-12 passenger vehicles $5 per day or $50 annual ParkPass;
13-30 passenger vehicles $30 per day or $75 annual ParkPass;
31 or more passenger vehicles $70 per day or $250 annual ParkPass;
Georgia active duty military/veterans $3.75 per day or $37.50 annual ParkPass.

Crowded popular campgound

Closely spaced gravel pads designed for large RVs up to 40 feet, spaced very closely together. Ugliest campsite I have been to. If you plan to sleep in your vehicle you must take an RV site, even if you pitch a tent. $47 for RV site per night, with all the usual amenities. East rim RV campsite is close to short trail with stairs to spectacular canyon overlooks and waterfall views. There are several longer trails ranging from easy to strenuous.

There are also primitive back country sites available for $10 a night along two of the longer trails. If you are tent camping, there are park and walk-in sites for $27 a night, that have toilet facilities and water.

While you are here, consider visiting Ruby Falls, a cave waterfall.
