Large sites, and well-maintained. Perfectly located just off the exit for Brooksville off of I-75, and right off the [Withlacoochee Rails to Trail](https://www.rttwst.org/) bike/hiking path and near the [Croom Mountain Biking Trails](http://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/mountain-bike-trails-in-florida-croom-rital-road.html). Friendly camp host and many like-minded cycling neighbors make this is a great spot to stop for the night! Watch out for curious rabbits, armadillos and enthusiastic (loud) screech owls if you are in a tent/bikepacking. All of the spaces are nicely spread out and are mostly shaded (needed here in Florida), there is electrical &amp; water hook-ups and many of the sites have a partial view of Silver Lake. Water &amp; electric at these sites are useful if you’re in an RV. However, if you’re in a tent I’d recommend the option of no electricity at Crooked River Campground just a wee bit farther into the recreation area and much nearer the river. While these are large shaded site with water, electric, and your standard picnic table, and a fire ring. The facilities were rustic and clean but by the end of the day they did need cleaning and the paper towels ran out. Would like it if they had reservations for the camp sites so I can use my credit card instead of bringing cash, though I know they will be switching to that later in the year!

**Description**

On the shore of Silver Lake, which is part of the Withlacoochee River system. The Withlacoochee River, Little Withlacoochee River, and Jumper Creek have all been designated as Outstanding Florida Waters, and each meanders through this forest which spans across 5 counties and exceeds 165,000 acres. There are some great biking paths and trails between the campgrounds which give you a wonderful experience of the wilderness region through the open pine sand hills, dense woodlands, and canopied roads and trails and complementing the natural water features. Some of the tree species found on the forest include slash pine, longleaf pine, pond and bald cypress, maple, southern magnolia, hickory, and various species of oak. These natural features create excellent habitat for bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoise, white-tail deer, and turkeys. This is a RV-tent camping site with all sites being a reasonable walking distance from the facilities in the center. Drive around to find the site you like. Due to state budget cutbacks, the gatehouse is closed (so it's all self checkin and honor system). They request payment within 30 minutes of your “selection”. With the increase of the price because of the ability to book online it used to be $15-20 dollars, but now that you can reserve on line they’ve upped the rates to $25, which seems a bit much to me…

Payment is on the honor system, bring cash or check because that actually saves you money versus the tax and fees for using the online reservation portal. The gates are locked at night, but the camp host can give you a pass code.

**Facilities:**

There is 1 bathhouse at Cypress Glen. The toilet facilities in the loop were clean, but could have used a good once over. They seemed to have been maintained, just not super regularly and thankfully no guests had come in and destroyed them. This time there was no hand soap, hand dryers, or paper towels available and it looks like they permanently removed the paper towel holder that used to be there during my last stay.

For you folks in an RV, there is a dump station located in Silver Lake Campground. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with grate and/or a grill. Cypress Glen contains 34 sites (#24-57)

Access to boat ramp and hiking trails including the Withlacoochee State Trail. Access to the lake for fishing, canoeing/kayaking from campground.

This is a great place to camp and lots of fun trails and exploring! River is easy to access and there are lots of areas to hang and picnic!

A rails to trails walking/bike path runs nearby. The biggest drawback is that it's located almost underneath I-75, so you do hear highway sounds all the time. It's not bad, but while it looks like nature surrounding you sometimes it definitely doesn't sound like it.

Pros:

*   Layout of all of the options and the features themselves all easy to navigate.
*   The sound quality is great, it amplifies loud, clear, and crisp. Even at the loudest volume, the sound is great.
*   Seems like it’s well construction. Although I thankfully haven't dropped yet to know one way or the other.
*   The battery lasts surprisingly long. We kept it going at medium volume for about 5-6 hours with battery to spare for the next day to play more podcasts.
*   I love that it’s water resistant but haven’t left it out in a rainstorm to truly test it (and hopefully won’t).
*   The flashlight on it is also super bright.

Cons:

*   For backpacking it’s pretty large and not as mobile friendly as I’d thought.
*   The strap is a cool, although, as you can see in my video one of the snap rivets that doesn't grab right and just comes off with virtually any weight on it.
*   Only seems to seat well on its feet on very flat surfaces. The base speakers are located on the backside where you’d expect to lay it on a table and the grooves are large on that backside allowing dirt or sand in it.
*   If you want to charge other devices (i.e. phone) don’t expect too much. It will drain the battery quickly to fully charge your phone.

Sorry folks, but I haven't sat there and watched it in order to tell how long it takes for the internal battery to charge on the integrated panel, but the indicator show that its doing its thing, flashing and lighting up more or less of them as it’s charging or being used. Having the charging input is neat although the battery pack isn’t sufficient for having a phone charging and the speaker going together for a very long time. If you personally have the option and can link to the alternative input with an addition solar charger panel that would definitely assist. (It worked for me!)

Overall, I like this speaker because the sound quality is good, and it does what it says so far. I like that unlike some of my other Bluetooth outdoor speakers I don’t need to bring an extra battery pack just to charge it, thus making it perfect for a basecamp or pullup campground.

One last thought, it wanted to let you know how to access the volume up/down options on the speaker. They are actually the "Next" and "Previous" buttons. These buttons serve double duty as the volume buttons, you just need to hold them down for another second to switch over to volume and you can then have full control of your speaker while storing your phone away.

The thing I liked most about this campground is that it has large sites. They are for RVs/Tents so if you have both and a pop up, everything will fit! The down fall is that the sites are around a lake/river, so many of them are on a slope. I went when it was a rainier weekend and the water went through my site to the lake/river behind.The sites have a rocky/dirt driveway so the rain made for a messy trip, but that is camping I suppose! If it hadn't been rainy, then the slopes of each site would be the only down fall. The bathroom is located in the middle along with the trash drops which are located at the "top" of the slope. Since I had a site towards the entrance, it was quite a hike. However, I don't have a large RV, so this may not be an issue for most staying here. The facilities were kept well and the employees were very nice and welcoming.

One thing that makes this campground different from others, is the motor bike area. I haven't seen many of these near campsites so a lot of the people staying here do so to enjoy that area. There is also a bike trail, and three hiking trails. Since it is on a lake, there is the opportunity to do water activities, and a boat ramp is available but near the Silver Lake area.

The Withlacoochee State Forest has many places to stay, within this section are three parks, the two for RV's (which Cypress Glen is one) pets are allowed, however the ten only area (Crooked River) does not allow pets. I took my dog and she had a great time on the hikes and playing in the lake.

Large Sites

We camp here (primitvely) when we want to bring our dogs. It is an RV campsite, but we camp with our tents and explore the area. It is just around the corner from lots of trails and access to Silver Lake. Not as secluded, but good enough for the family and our dogs. We go in the off season when not so many people are traveling in their RV's so it isn't as crowded.

Nice areas to explore, but more for RV's then primitive

stayed with co workers for a weekend to scout for hunting season and was a decent stay. has full hook ups and they did away with walk ups now its reserve America and price went up.

best spot in silver lake

Spent one night here in March of 2019.  Easy drive down a hard packed gravel road. Lots of shaded options to pitch a tent, facilities (showers) were clean and plenty (3-4 shower stalls). Our site had a fire ring with grate (not something you find everywhere), trees to hang a hammok, and flat spaces for tents. A very quiet spot with access to lots of hiking trails plus Silver Lake to go fishing. What more do you need?

"Primitive" (tent) camping is alright here!

We had our baby moon here this past weekend (this is the second time I’ve camped at Cypress Glen and neither time was I disappointed). Campsite 49 has plenty of shade and backs up to a mini swamp which is beautiful for pictures. We had electric and eater on site and it’s pup friendly of course. Hot showers and clean bathrooms. A few feet from our site is a boardwalk which leads to 2 hikes one more inland and the other that follows around silver lake. Each one was beautiful. We will absolutely be back 

Pure bliss

We booked site #50. The site was level for us because my trailer is small but some leveling would be required for bigger rig.  Some of the outer loop sites Had steep drop offs. Restrooms were kept clean.  The site info was helpful in picking a site. Close to bike trail. Liked the campground but there was a lot of highway noise.

This campsite is mostly for RV’s. There are many different size sites so all sizes of RVs work. Just a warning to check out sites before booking or check reviews because some sites are sloped or back to cliffs along river area. Otherwise great sites!!!!  Awesome Silver Lake is right there to fish or walk the boardwalk around.  Launch area is nearby for kayaks or canoes.  Many trails nearby in this forest area. Lots to explore by river too. We enjoyed one of the sites as a central location to many other areas in the forest to explore nature. Very happy with the campground. There was a very clean boathouse with showers.  You do hear highway noise since I75 is nearby but it’s not horrible. This campground uses reserve America to book so pretty easy.  We will definitely stay there again. It did not disappoint.

RV Camping on River

I was concerned about getting to our site with our 35’ camper. We made it in just fine the site was large and well maintained with gravel pad. Brand new dump station.

These were nice sites ,clean bath house.  Right on silver lake Great if you want to kayak the Withlacoochee River￼.  Site are level there are a few on hills good for smaller camper. Nice dirt road thu park was mainly for rv or campers a lilies road and lake noise  from i75 near lake and jet skis but not bad we will be back. Good phone signal Verizon and ATT. online reservations nice new dump sites 

Nice campsites one river

We have camped here several times. Due to Covid there are no camp hosts in the RV camping areas and no one is working at the check-in station. The ranger drives through a couple times a day. This park is operating at reduced capacity at this time. The bath houses are fairly clean. The campsites have recently been graded and gravel refreshed, but they have not been maintained well this summer and many are grown over with weeds. I expect that will get better once the camp hosts are brought back. There are really pretty hiking trails and easy access to Silver Lake. There’s a brand new two-lane dump station that is easily accessible.  Normally there is firewood available for a donation but there is none at this time. 

Making Improvements

We camped for one night at this location. It was a great area for biking and hiking. On our hike we found a old girl scout camp.

It's not too far away but very peaceful and quiet. We've stayed here a few times and always enjoy our time. Fishing, kayaking, trails. Nice campfires in the evenings. Sites are clean and well kept. We always enjoy our time when we come camping here
