Angler’s Paradise on Dead Lake

If fishing is your thing and you’ve got an RV looking to secure some fairly decent waterfront real estate, both for viewing as much as accessing, then Bull Creek Campground, while small and quaint, has a distinct boutique RV community that will allow for simple, basic amenities, but will plant you in a pristine location right in front of Dead Lake, which has direct access to the much larger Crescent Lake. This property itself ‘dead-ends’ west-bound after a decent nondescript drive past Mud Lake (to the south) off Highway 11 in north central Florida.

The campground itself is split in two with very distinct set-ups and vibes. If you are hauling your boat and simply want a single lane to park your RV / trailer on one side, but have your boat trailer immediately accessible, then head on the right-side of this spot, where there’s a single row lane that you can back-in your RV and wherein there’s a very simple stream behind each site, which if your boat is small enough, you should be able to manage entering it directly there. The second location is on the left-hand side and offers another simple lane wherein you have 6 slots on the right and another half dozen on the left with only the right-hand slots offering both waterview as well as water access. Both of these RV areas have about a dozen slots apiece to choose from.

The restroom and shower facilities are just basic (nothing to write home about), but the only other single standing building on the property, located right in front of the access point to Dead Lake, has been condemned, so there’s nothing inside this building, but in front of it, there’s a half dozen picnic tables along with 3-4 scattered fire rings, so if you come back with a good catch for the day, you have a pretty amazing waterfront outdoor dining spot with which to grill up the catch-O-the-day. Other than this, Bull Creek Campground doesn’t have a lot more to offer other than great access to the water, which is full of fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boating adventures. Other than this I don’t know that Bull Creek needs anything else to offer!

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) The nearest restaurant is almost 30 minutes away, so if you plan on coming here to Bull Creek, you better bring or catch whatever you plan on eating for your entire stay; (2) If you do have a boat though, you might find a lot more eateries located on the waterfront, in particular, you may want to check out Crescent City, which has a few nice waterfront bars and restaurants, such as 3 Bananas; (3) Have a fishing pole and looking for some great options? Then look no further than Haw Creek Preserve as well as its sister property Haw Creek State Preserve, which in addition to fishing, there’s some really great places to take your kayak; and (4) Kids in tow and wondering where you can find a great playground? Go back the way you came on Country Road 2006, where you’ll see the signs for Haw Creek Preserve and shortly after entering (less than a mile), you’ll come across a great little park for the kiddos, complete with swings, slides and jungle gym.

Happy Camping!

It is our home away from home!

Words can’t express how much we enjoy our time at the place. The grounds are as good as it gets. We love the restaurant & the atmosphere. The sites don’t get any better! The only draw back is the water is not potable but we bring bottled water. The lake and tributaries are beautiful and definitely describes old Florida.
