Description
Roadside dispersed camping on the gravel corridor leading out from Ubehebe Crater, deep inside Death Valley National Park at roughly 2,500 feet elevation in the remote northern reaches of the park. The approach road is washboarded dirt — manageable for standard 2WD vehicles in dry conditions, though wet weather can change that quickly. Dark skies and profound quiet define the experience here, with no cell service and virtually no traffic after the day-trippers leave the crater. Note that camping is not permitted within the first mile of the junction with the main road; the one-mile mark is the closest legal stopping point.
