Lassen National Forest is home to Rocky Point Campground, a US Forest Service site on the eastern shore of Lake Almanor that draws campers back season after season for its direct water access. Sites are paved and mostly flat, with a mix of sun and shade from the surrounding firs, and the lake is within walking distance from every spot in the campground. The season runs May through October, with reservations available during peak summer months and first-come, first-served availability after Labor Day.
Crowding is a consistent theme in reviews. The campground fills quickly on summer weekends, and sites are packed fairly close together. Larger rigs should note that while the listed maximum length is 47 feet, narrow internal roads and low-hanging branches make maneuvering difficult for anything over 30 feet. A dump station is on-site but carries an additional fee beyond the nightly rate. Vault toilets are kept clean. Drinking water, picnic tables, and firewood round out the amenities, and the campground is ADA accessible.
Fishing, swimming, and hiking are the primary draws, and a small beach area works well for families with children. Pat S. notes that views of the mountains and lake extend in every direction. Nearby, Feather River/Rocky Point - Lake Almanor provides an alternative if Rocky Point is full. Campers who bring dogs will find pet-friendly sites near Lassen National Forest worth browsing before finalizing a reservation. Arriving after Labor Day remains the most reliable way to find space without planning far in advance.
