COE Mendocino Lake Chekaka Campground - CLOSED PERMANENTLY

Note: This campground is permanently closed.

COE Mendocino Lake Chekaka Campground operated as a Corps of Engineers facility on the shores of Mendocino Lake until its permanent closure. The forested sites accommodated RVs up to 43 feet with full sewer hookups and provided direct lake access for swimming and boating activities.

Campers found the sites spaced well apart from each other, though weekend evenings could become noisy with recreational activity. The lake's warm, calm waters made swimming and kayaking popular choices. Steve P. noted the lake supported "so many waters sports, windsurfing, wakeboarding, kayaking, fishing." A boat launch provided direct access to the water from the camping area.

The campground included restrooms, showers, and a dump station during its operational period from May through September. Access roads could be rough, requiring attention when driving larger rigs to the sites. Cell service was available throughout the area. "Love camping a lake mendo," reflected Jeanette C. about the overall experience.

For current camping options in the area, campers can explore campgrounds near Mendocino Lake or check availability at Kyen Campground, which remains open nearby.

Guests frequently mentioned the excellent lakefront location with sites close to water and good facilities. The campground offers great water activities but can get noisy on weekends.
