Glamis Flats

Glamis Flats is located in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in Southern California. It's a popular destination for off-road enthusiasts and dune recreation. The camping areas are accessible by vehicle, with most visitors parking their RVs and camping setups along the edges of the dunes. While specific access points aren't designated, it's advisable to go with someone familiar with the area on your first visit, as it's easy to get lost in the dunes. The area is particularly accessible for vehicles with 4-wheel drive capability.

For Glamis Sand Dunes camping, bring essential desert camping equipment including plenty of water (none available on site), tents or trailers secured for potential wind, and sun protection. Off-road vehicles or ATVs are popular but not required - rentals are available nearby if you don't have your own. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended for navigating the sand. Pack portable toilets or be prepared to use the pit toilets (which can be smelly). Sleds for dune sledding provide additional recreation. Prepare for extreme temperature fluctuations typical of desert environments.

Camping at Glamis Dunes is free, but you'll need permits for off-highway vehicles (OHV) if you plan to ride. All vehicles must display appropriate registration and safety flags in the recreation area. The area has basic regulations typical of public lands - pack out what you pack in and respect other campers. Pit toilets are available but bring your own water and supplies.
