## Overview

 Dorabelle Campground is a popular family camping destination above Shaver Lake. Some sites are shaded by a thick stand of fir, cedar and pine trees, while other sites are more open. This camp is a great base for experiencing the wide variety of recreational activities in the area. Boats can be moored nearby and some sites offer views of the lake.

 Hikers can access 5 trails from the campground: Dinkey Road (.5 miles), Musick Meadow (.75 miles), Peninsula Loop (1 mile), Burr Meadow (1.5 miles) and Osprey Cove (2 miles). Horseback riding is also offered nearby. Popular activities at Shaver Lake include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Anglers can fish for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill.

 Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. Cabins / Lookouts: Customers who cancel a cabin or lookout reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee. Group Facility (including Cabins and Lookouts): Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee. Group Day Use Area: Customers who cancel a group day-use facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will forfeit the total day-use fee. Changes or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window: Once a reservation date has begun, customers cannot change a reservation using the online system or through the Call Center (see below for early departures). If the location is staffed, on-site personnel may or may not be able to assist with changes or cancellations (check with local staff). No-Shows Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date and will hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first nights recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use fee for a day-use facility.

The Best Camping Near Shaver Lake, California

Took my friend from Portland up here for her first Sierra camping trip. This was also my first time in this specific area. Shaver Lake seemed like a great basecamp to be able to drive to a dozen different good hikes. We picked spot 36 because it was farther from other spots and also the closest one to the lake(see pics).  This spot was twice the price, which I thought was for the sweet location, but it was actually a double spot. Oops. The spot was extremely well taken care of. The tables, fire rings and bear boxes were all in great shape. Bathrooms were cleaned daily. No showers but that’s what wet wipes are for.  Both of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Those lake pics were taken 6 hours apart and barely tweaked. We ate our breakfast and drank our coffee in that spot. Highly recommended. 

Gorgeous spot

My kids and I have been here twice and love it. A few things to keep in mind... there are no shower, no electricity, but there are fresh water taps for clean water. We bring our own shower tent and a portable solar panels for anything that needs to be charged. This campground is on the lakes edge.

Very organized and clean, the campgrounds are spread out, private and most have shade.

Nice, clean, simple

I’ve stayed at Dorabelle twice and enjoyed it both times! The sites are clean and well maintained. The access to the lake is a little walk but not too far and the cove is perfect for relaxing with kids. Highly recommend!

Quiet and clean

Very clean and well maintained campground. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Quiet times are reasonable for family ambiance. Would recommend arriving to the lake early before it fills up to the public. 

Great Family Campground

As a solo traveler, seeking a camping spot in the mountains near Shaver Lake, Dorabelle Campground was recommended to me by a long time local. I made a reservation after looking over maps to ensure walking distance to lake for swimming and fishing. A fairly close rest room was important too. I reserved a corner space with a nearby toilet and water spigot. I was please to find the walk to the lake was less than 5 minutes. What really impressed me was 1. Very friendly check in kiosk (who gave me fresh grapes) . 2. Very clean, including the restrooms . 3. My campsite was large , clean, with sunny and shade spots and separated from other sites by trees . The cove is wonderful for swimming and mostly kayaks/SUP with plenty of beach space, water temp was perfect . Happy campers all, one lady let me use her kayak. The cost to camp is very reasonable at 35$ for a big tent site compared to the larger more commercial campground up the road. Yes, smaller with narrow one way roads, but quiet at night, easy access from Shaver Lake businesses and food and nicely kept sites. I’ve been camping for 50 years and I haven’t come home and raved about a campground in a long time ! A four star rating for lack of showers/place to wash dishes.

Solo or family friendly campground by Shaver Lake 

The campgrounds are beautiful and well maintained! The bathrooms are the cleanest I’ve ever seen at a campground and down by the lake is beautiful! Highly recommend!

Beautiful ! 

Walked down to the lake and spent time swimming. Trails around the campground are fun and we saw lots of deer. The campground itself was pretty dusty dew to the drought and not much shade in our site. Ordered pizza from Shaver Pizza Parlor and it was Yummy. Boat rentals are available, but we fished off the bank and got two small trout.

Close to Dorabelle Cove and a really nice swimming hole. 

Very basic services (toilets, no showers). No hookups. No showers.

But the location makes up for everything. Amazing. 

Basic campground, amazing location 

We spent the last weekend of September here at this campground. It was so far the most calm and quiet place we have ever been. The staff are friendly and they maintain the place really well. Our campsite is just close to the lake and the lake itself is clean and very calm. We will surely plan on coming back next year for a long weekend.

Quiet, Calm and Restful 

Really great location next to the lake, campsites nestled into the sequoias, but it was very loud and a bit of a daunting drive up the mountain to get to. Partiers non-stop, even after camp hosts made their rounds at 10pm. Then from 1am-3am a group of campers blared their music, howling, laughing, and singing into the night

Beautiful but loud

We were pleasantly surprised by how peaceful our 2 night stay was at campsite #27. Camp hosts were super helpful. Bathrooms were clean. Multiple hiking trails from campground to museum, town or around the lake. Would stay again.

Wonderful campground at Shaver Lake 

We had spot 29 which was the first of 4 sites sitting on a roundabout. Had a picnic table, bear box and a fire pit ring. The site itself sat behind our trailer so we didn’t use much of it. The lake is a 5 minute walk and our site was well shaded. Hosts were friendly. The bathrooms weren’t the cleanest but we don’t expect much from vault toilets. Would definitely come back! 

Cute Campgroud

We stayed at Dorabelle this weekend and our families loved it! We invited our family and friends some that don’t like camping loved it as well! They all kept saying it was the best camping trip they ever had.. our hosts Frank and Jamie were super sweet and welcoming.. the campgrounds are immaculate and near the water. One quick stroll to our private cove for some fishing and fun .. it’s close to town and walking distance to other campgrounds.. we can’t wait to come back to Dorabelle!!
