    Boulders OHV Area

    Nice and levelled

We liked it there. Nobody else on Friday night, plenty of space

The typical rumble strip dirt road to this point but easily doable.

    Service: 1 bar Verizon

    North Ranch

    Can’t beat the price, but—

We stayed Mid May, ghost town, everyone who could had left. All felt kind of desolate.

RV site had everything water, sewer and electric. Lots of weeds and nothing else.

Showers adequate, Clubhouse house even sported its own large kitchen! People playing cards in an adjoining room were rude.

Only necessity could make me return! Paid for 2 nights & LEFT after one.

    Quiet and beautiful stop over

Camped for one night on my way from NM to LA.  Arrived at night and it was easy to find. Awoke to a beautiful sunrise at the foot of the mountains. Great rock hunting too! This will be my regular camping spot form now on when traveling the same route.

    Very enjoyable!

Never camped before in my life, so I have nothing to compare this to. Having said that- the staff were great, bathrooms very clean. The weather was quite warm, so we didn’t do much exploring. Also - the donkeys!! Everywhere!

    Boulders OHV Area

Tons of spread out dispersed camp sites

Miles of desert and washes to explore with tons of dispersed camping sites. Can get busy on holiday or event weekends but worth it otherwise. Some weekends have horse or Dirtbike events. Nearby washes lead to tons of trails near castle hot springs that can lead to various abounded mine sites (including Anderson Mill). Obviously not ideal camping in the summer but GREAT for the fall/winter/spring months.

    Beautiful Lake

A few things. 1st. If you plan on staying overnight with an RV do not reserve the Ramada sites. They’re meant for day use and are super tiny and squished together. We started there, but our 24ft trailer wasn’t even close to fitting. So we had to move.

We moved to the sites with no water and no electric. Super awesome sites, very clean and very quiet.

Donkeys…..there are tons of donkeys, really cool…..the first night. They’re cool until you realize they don’t sleep and all they do is make a lot of noise, lol. Not that I wouldn’t go back again because of the donkeys, but just be prepared they’re not far away and they make the “hee-haw” noise All Night Long, lol.

Don’t camp here without water sports or Side by side. There aren’t any trails for bike riding or hiking. But the water is great to spend a couple of days on and the Side by side trails are endless.

Overall, really nice camping. I would definitely go back, with or without a SxS. Just not in the summer….there’s no shade and it’s desert.

    State land trust/Inspiration Point

    Weekdays are best

State land trust, good spot for a few nights. Gunshots in the distance, but no incidents/casualties lol. Pulled my 31ft TT back into a spot for a week. Close 10 min drive to stores like WinCo and Safeway and gas stations. Quite weekdays, loud weekends due to motor vehicles breaking the rules. (Not a ohv area but treated as such)

    Burro Creek Campground

    Quiet Solitude and Peaceful

I've camped at Burro Creek Campground multiple times, and almost every time I've had the place practically to myself. It's a really neat area to explore. The creek has beavers, and rattlesnakes appear in the summer months alongside the cows. This campground is a must-stop for a weekend getaway. Before you go, search online to find ghost towns in the area.

    Burro Creek Campground

    Nice BLM camp

Camp is located well off hwy so is very quiet. Good access road that is well marked after you cross bridge going south. Site #5 easy back in, level graveled area. Plenty of room for Scamp & Tacoma (30’). Covered table. No hookups and no ATT cell service. Restrooms available but didn’t use.

    Centennial Park

    Easy Stop for Price

Centennial Park County is an easy stop on way to Phoenix. Pull thru site #7 Water and electricity for $20. If you only stay a night or two it’s $5.00 to dump ( free with longer stay). Sites 1-12 elect/waterBathroom, picnic benches and shower ( have to ask for key). Says they use reverse osmosis for water. 9 hole golf course. County library across street. Baseball diamond and playground . Dry camping also ($10) Hike trail around park. Host was a gem!! Beautiful sunset with hills.

    White Tank Mountain Regional Park

    Excellent semi-civilized experience

    Pros:

    • Well spaced campsites with excellent views in all directions (mountains and desert one way, iconic saguaros and city lights in the other).
    • Cleanest flush toilets and showers (free) I've ever seen in a campground.
    • Dish washing station
    • Campsites are level, clean, and include a shade over a concrete table, fire ring, and hammock hooks for three.
    • Trails throughout the camp into the greater park but the campgrounds separated from the more public trailheads. Strategically placed benches scattered along trails for coffee drinking.
    • Wildlife: birds, coyotes, reptiles, etc
    • The camp is close to civilization enabling quick visits to other attractions, and an easy drive to spring training baseball games.
    • Camp hosts were responsive. They live on-site year round and treat the camp like it is a home. Very impressed with the team.
    • Firewood available on-site. $8/bundle. Very dense wood that doesn't light quickly when wet but burns for a long time.

    Cons:

    • Struggling to come up with one. Probably hot in the summer. Busier on the weekends due to location inside the White Tank Regional park.

    Nice and quiet

This was just an overnight stop. You can get right up next to the mountain if you want. Very rocky though. I made it with a 35' skoolie. Just go slow. It was fairly busy.

    Alamo Lake State Park Campground

    Not that great

Pulled into our reserved spot only to see a 6ft x 6ft section roped off for a drip irrigation repair. It was really great to have this area roped off right where you would normally have the awning out and sit. Would have been nice to know this was being worked on when I booked so I could have looked for another spot. Otherwise it is a fine enough campground.

    Alamo State Park: Section D

Alamo Lake is a long-time favorite spot. Only a couple hours West of PHX and some great views with an abundance of SxS / ATV trails. Alamo Lake is also very well known for it's fish (especially bass & crappie). Section C has Water & Electric. Section D is primitive and as such, less crowded. This is a great place Oct - April. Outside of those dates, you'll want Electric so you can run the A/C. Wi-Fi & cell service is questionable. Some spots are good, others are not. While I've done a lot of work out here, try to stay off the devices, PCs and TVs. Enjoy what's out here!!

    Burro Creek Overflow Dispersed Area

    Burro Creek Overflow camping area

When the Burro Creek CG is full, this is your option to wait for a spot to open. Good cell signal but no water, trash, or marked sites. The Burro Creek CG does allow the dry campers to come in and use the RV dump and fill with water $10 fee.

    Very nice BLM CG.

BLM CG has a host, water, trash, flush toilets, tables, fire-rings. Cell is very good tmobile. $14/$7 nite. 1/2 sites are reservable.

    BLM 17 mile road dispersed

    BLM 17 mile road dispersed

Ok area for an overnite but area is not that big forultiple camps. Crossing the big wash is not recommended. Road is a wide grade sandy road. Cell is very good. No water, no toilets, no trash, no tables, just rough boondock.

Better option is either Burro Creek BLM fee CG or the few free dispersed at top of Burro Creek CG access road.

Vulture Peak Road North State Trust Land

    Dispersed AZ ST trust lands

Rough sloped area at crest by cell tower. This is AZ Trust Land so a $15 online permit is needed to be legit. Cell signal is very good. Only a few miles into town and a grocery store.

  • Camper-submitted photo from Vulture Mine Road South Dispersed
    February 14, 2024

    Vulture Mine Road South Dispersed

Ok, but on AZ State Trust land

Access road is rutted and could be muddy if wet. Large open flat area in middle. Free dispersed but need the $15 AZ lands permit. Cell signal is very good. No toilets, no trash, no tables...just rock fire rings. Close to the hwy so some hwy noise. Campers look to be folks that work in town, trashy vehicles and industrial setups, not really a RV nomad community area imho, has a sketchy vibe. The dispersed area a bit to the north closer to town by the cell tower may be a better spot
