 Canyon Vista Campground is located near Walnut Canyon and [Lower Lake Mary][1]. This area consists of ponderosa pine, mixed conifer, aspen and oak, which offer good photo opportunities, interesting geology and views of the San Francisco Peaks.

Canyon Vista Campground — Coconino National Forest Recreation

Flagstaff, Arizona is surrounded by national forest land, with Walnut Canyon and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monuments taking up small swatches of space within them. Northern Arizona is a popular ski destination, but it holds up as a solid outdoor town year-round.

The best camping near Flagstaff is in the surrounding national forests, though you can get to the Grand Canyon in less than two hours. Granted, if you’re looking to spend significant time at the Grand Canyon, you’re better off getting a campsite there or staying near Tusayan, AZ. The Flagstaff area has more than enough in the way of outdoor activities, with tent and RV camping options being plentiful. If you’re looking to take full advantage of the Flagstaff area, find a campground near the mountain you plan to climb and wake up near the trailhead rested and ready to go.

The Best Flagstaff Camping | Arizona Campgrounds

This campground is small (only about 10 sites, one vault toilet building). Close to Lake Mary. Nice area, drains well when it rains (which it has done a lot this spring).

  

Vault toilets (one for each binary gender) are kept clean and well stocked with TP.

  

Friendly camp hosts (2019 summer season) who are helpful and full of knowledge.

  

No hookups.  Nice for tents or self-contained RVs.

Beautiful, small, friendly hosts

We had a wonderful stay at Canyon Vista Campground. It's remarkably close to the city, Flagstaff, but tucked away in the forest, it feels remote. We went in June 2019, and it wasn't crowded at all. The hosts were absolutely wonderful. They came by and checked that we had everything we needed and offered us water. They gave us a general idea of the campground. They had installed little motion sensor lights in the bathroom, so you don't have to fumble with phones or flashlights to use the loo. They have a box of reading materials, books, maps, etc. like a little free library set up. They had 5 wonderful dogs, all leashed, controlled and super friendly and adorable. A few are trained therapy dogs, just wonderful sweet, quiet dogs. It was so clear to me that the hosts really took pride in making sure their guests had a good experience at the campground. I don't think I've ever stayed at a campground where the hosts went so out of their way to make sure I felt at home. I highly recommend this campground to travelers, or locals who just want a chance of scenery, just minutes from the city!

Beautiful Campground, Lovely Hosts

Had a lovely stay. The hosts were very nice and attentive, since I was a single camper. They always checked to make sure I made it back from my hikes.

Quiet &amp; clean  campground.  Close to town.   Nice hiking trails.  Cool views.  Repelling area.  Lots of shade trees, fire pit &amp; rest room.  Good size spaces.  Friendly hosts. 

Canyon Vista 

Nicely spread out sites among pine trees. Well maintained. No water except from a tank of drinking water and only one pit toilet.  Several trails right from the campground.  Only 5 miles from Flagstaff.  Car traffic can be heard during the day, but very quiet at night.  The campground was closed because of risk of fire, but just reopened after several days of rain.

Pretty And shaded with picnic tables and fire rings. Several trails nearby, but no water or water features. Decided to try a different campsiteSince it was very warm out and really wanted to cool off in a lake or stream.￼

It’s a very nice spot

Good forest service camp close to Flagstaff. Sites are spread out and there were a variety of camper types there. Can hike or rock climb nearby. Price is now $26.

This campground has less trees than others in the area, but the roads are flat so good for RVs. 
Bathrooms are pit toilets. 

Good for RVs

Been here twice in last three months. Well run campground for tents and rvs with space between sites. No electricity and limited water. Good trail access.

Beautiful campground with hiking trails, bathrooms and friendly hosts. Conveniently located near Flag and lots of shady sites.

Great campsite very close to Flagstaff 

Well distributed sites.  Very clean.  Camp host extremely helpful.  10 minutes into Flag.  Recently changed some sites to reservation on rec.gov which changes the dynamics of staying here a bit.

A great campsite if you’re looking for a quick retreat.

Super nice host, spots were well spaced. Vault toilets were well kept, I will saw that the Dyrt app has the cost as $22, but we paid $30 so the price must have increased recently. However, cost is worth it :)
