Five Mile Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Along the Dalton Highway in Yukon-Koyukuk, Five Mile Campground sits on BLM land managed by the Central Yukon Field Office and functions essentially as an open dirt lot. The layout is flat and spacious, with room for large rigs despite the basic setup. Campers report that it draws less traffic than nearby stops like Coldfoot, and mid-summer visits have seen only a handful of groups at once. Picnic tables, fire rings, and a water fill station are on-site, with restrooms that have been open into mid-September. Five Mile - Dalton Hwy is a close alternative just down the road. The BLM season runs May through September, so plan accordingly if traveling late in the fall.

It Feels Safe

This camp is unique in the sense that it is just an open, dirt parking lot. But it felt very safe for us (only people tent camping). Also I would guess that this site gets looked over compared to Coldfoot and the Arctic Circle camp, so it was not busy (we were there in August). In total, 4 groups were there. There was 1 private site right above the lot. Below there was a little gift shop and parking area, but I am unsure if that is active or not. Very basic camp, but it was mighty beautiful.

This is a big lot

Restrooms were still open after Labor Day!!! This is really just a big lot. If some how you drive your huge RV this way there is plenty of room. I have no idea how packed this place gets but when we came mid September it was empty. There are picnic tables and fire rings. Also there is a spot to fill up on water if need be.
