Description

State of Alaska

Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park

Of all the places in Alaska, few have the wealth of wildlife, scenery and history that Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park (SHP) offers. The ruins of a World War II coastal defense installation coupled with steep, surf-pounded cliffs, deep spruce forests, and wildflower-laden meadows offer you a unique opportunity to learn about the events of World War II while enjoying the natural beauty of Kodiak Island.

Bears occasionally visit the park, especially during berry season, proper bear country safety, procedures and etiquette should always be followed.
All Kodiak road based state parks have a $5 per vehicle day-use fee that can be paid with cash or check at a self-payment fee station located in the park or an annual vehicle sticker.
The Kodiak Military History Museum is operated by a non-profit organization located in the WWII Ready Ammunition Bunker at Miller Point and requires a $5 entrance fee that is separate from the parks day-use fee.

This is a camp site that needs to be on the list. Close to town. Amazing ocean views. Feels remote. Lots of space.
