Poe Valley State Park Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Quiet enough that one camper described it as "far enough away from cities that it's nice and quiet," Poe Valley State Park Campground sits in a forested hollow in central Pennsylvania, open from the second Friday in April through early December. The campground is set within Poe Valley State Park, a compact park built around a small lake that draws anglers, swimmers, and paddlers throughout the summer season. Sites are heavily shaded and, according to multiple visitors, feel notably removed from surrounding development.

Cell service is essentially nonexistent here. Campers consistently flag this, and most suggest downloading maps and trail information before arriving. The Hunter's Path, accessed from the beach parking lot, connects to the Mid State Trail but climbs steeply and is rated difficult by those who have done it. The lake is the social center of the park, with a sandy beach, warm water for swimming, kayak and paddle boat rentals, and a concession stand nearby.

Hookups are available for RVs up to 25 feet, though at least one reviewer noted that electric service was present at their site without water or sewer connections, so it's worth confirming specifics when reserving. The bathhouse receives consistent praise for cleanliness, and warm showers are available. Nightly rates run $20 to $63. Poe Paddy State Park Campground, roughly 2.7 miles east along Penns Creek, gives campers a different configuration if this park is full or a creek-side setting sounds more appealing.

Nice campground with a beach!

Lovely area with many shaded spots. Electric hookup but no sewer or water hookups. The bath house is extremely clean and they have warm showers which was nice. We didn't realize there would be no service so I didn't research hikes before we left. We did take the hunter's path, off the beach parking lot, to the mid state trail but it was straight up the mountain and quite difficult. The beach was nice, not crowded, soft sand, and warm water. It's a great lake to kayak or paddle board on.
