Rain...rain...rain but magical

Camped here in November. Really cold rain just like the last place we camped. It is so beautiful here its hard to overlook that. Our trip to Olympic NP has just been frigid rain and more frigid rain. We are a little bummed out. Either way there is amazing hiking, biking, fishing, surfing, and sunsets here.

In warmer weather there would still be rain but just warmer haha. The dispersed camping here is really nice. Dispersed camping in any national park is amazing and theres a lot of it here. Better than paying top dollar for other NP camping.

Cheers!

Beautiful Beach Camping

There is some incredible beach camping to be had at Strawberry Point. The best spots are located immediately south of the point on the beach and tucked into the giant piles of driftwood. There is a freshwater creek about 1/4 mile south of Strawberry Point. There are also other fresh water sources on the way if you access the beach trail from the La Push area. It's National Park so bear cans (for racoons ) and permits are required. I would bring a rain shell even if the weather calls for clear skies.

SiteStayed on the beach.

Strawberry Point Campground is a primitive beach camping area with minimal amenities. The site offers natural camping spots tucked among driftwood piles. A freshwater creek is located approximately 1/4 mile south of the point for water collection (water should be treated before consumption). There are no developed facilities like bathrooms, showers, or trash services, so campers must pack out all waste and practice Leave No Trace principles.

How do I hike from Third Beach to Strawberry Point?

To hike from Third Beach to Strawberry Point, follow the coastal trail that winds along the Olympic National Park shoreline. The route involves beach walking and navigating headlands via overland trails with rope assists in some sections. Plan around tides, as some sections are impassable at high tide. The hike includes elevation changes when going around points. Bring appropriate footwear for sand, rocks, and muddy trail sections. A detailed topographic map is essential for this backcountry coastal hike.

Where is Strawberry Point Campground located in Olympic National Park?

Strawberry Point Campground is located along the coastal section of Olympic National Park in Washington state. It's situated on the beach, accessible via hiking trails along the Olympic Peninsula's Pacific coastline. The point itself is a prominent coastal feature with beach camping areas immediately to its south, offering dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by the park's wilderness.

When is the best time to camp at Strawberry Point?

Summer offers the most favorable conditions for camping at Strawberry Point, with warmer temperatures and typically less rainfall. Late spring through early fall generally provides better weather windows. Winter camping is possible but challenging due to cold temperatures and frequent rain. November can be particularly wet and frigid along this coastal area. Regardless of season, always prepare for changing weather conditions as the Olympic coast can experience rain year-round. Check weather forecasts and tide tables before your trip.
