Bull Run Regional Park includes camping options near Manassas, but lacks dedicated horse corrals or designated equestrian facilities according to the campground data. The park offers various accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots with hookups, cabins, and glamping options. While pets are allowed throughout the campground, there are no specific amenities for horses such as corrals, stables, or dedicated trailer parking. The spacious sites provide ample room between camps, with numerous wooded areas offering shade during hot Virginia summers. The gun range noise from 9am to 8pm daily affects the peaceful atmosphere at certain campsites.

Trails throughout Bull Run Regional Park connect to the broader region, though they aren't specifically designated as bridle paths or equestrian routes. The park features multiple marked trails designed for hiking and biking, with visitors noting the extensive network of pathways throughout the 7,000-acre property. For those interested in historical elements, the park's proximity to Civil War battlefields and historical sites provides educational opportunities while camping. While Bull Run offers clean facilities including hot showers, drinking water, and electric hookups, equestrians seeking dedicated horse camping near Manassas with corrals or trailer parking would need to look beyond this park. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak seasons when the campground's water park and disc golf course attract additional visitors.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

      Graves Farm

Beautiful spot. The campsite is across the street from the lodge. G-Maps and Apple will take you to the lodge however. Loved the Freeform and “make your own” spot vibe

      Bull Run Regional Park

⭐ 1-Star Review – Shockingly Rude, Misleading, and Embarrassing Experience

I am writing this review because what happened to me at Bull Run Regional Park Campground was not just inconvenient—it was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely avoidable.

I camp in my Tesla. I have already stayed at this exact campground before with no issue. Their online reservation system allowed me to book again—no warnings, no restrictions, nothing to indicate a problem. So I drove all the way from North Carolina to Virginia trusting that everything was fine.

When I arrived to check in, the office staff was literally handing me the paperwork. Out of nowhere, a ranger barged in and bluntly told me: “You cannot camp in a Tesla. You need a separate rig.”

His tone was rude, dismissive, and made me feel like I was doing something dirty or cheap. There was zero respect, zero empathy—just instant judgment. I felt like I was being treated as if I was trying to sneak in or break rules, even though they allowed the booking and accepted my reservation.

If they have such a rule, why wasn’t I notified during booking? Why was I allowed to stay the first time? Why let me drive for hours only to embarrass me at the check-in counter?

The office employee even tried to defend me, but he couldn’t convince the ranger. Instead, they told me I could not stay and promised an immediate refund.

After a long drive, being spoken to like that was extremely disappointing. I’ve camped all over North Carolina and never been treated with such disrespect. Camping in a Tesla is clean, quiet, zero-emission, and safe, yet I was made to feel like I didn’t belong.

To make matters worse, it has now been seven days and not a single dollar of the refund has appeared. When I called, the office representative didn’t even ask for my reservation details and seemed completely clueless. She first said she couldn’t do anything, then suddenly changed her story and said she would “leave a note.” When I asked to speak with someone who could actually help, she put me on hold and suddenly claimed the manager had “just refunded” me and that I would see the money in two business days.

After everything that happened, it felt like another layer of indifference and incompetence.

This entire experience—from the rude ranger to the unprofessional refund handling—left me feeling disrespected and upset. For a campground that charges over $75 a night after fees and taxes, the treatment I received was unacceptable.

Guests deserve honesty, clear communication, and basic respect.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Expensive for what you get; and drainage problems.

We have found municipal campgrounds in Northern Virginia are a bit spendy for being government sponsored.  Not as bad as South Carolina, but way more than Florida.  Fine.  Comes with the territory.  But Bull Run manages to goose you even more.  There are occupancy AND transaction fees that really add up if you're only there a few nights.  But the real kicker is a 2-night minimum stay.  Even mid-week.  In APRIL for gosh sakes!

While we were here, there was a fairly heavy day of rain.  Couple inches, I suppose, but nothing Biblical.  The mouths of the metal culverts in our loop were bent downward from campers driving over them, which obstructed the flow.  Result was lots of standing water at our campsite.

We're done with NOVA Parks campgrounds.  Better cost options exist with Fairfax County Parks.

Did stay here after visting Vicksburg. Nice clean restrooms and showers. Friendly hostess and we had a nice shady spot, what was great with a heat of 94F.

      Bull Run Regional Park

      Noisy but Nice

Pros - Clean Bathrooms, Camp store open 8am - 8pm, Sites 62 - 92 (except #74 and 88) are all pretty  good.  Security was great, patrol throughout the night.  Quiet hours are enforced and campers are polite.  Lots of activities, and nice hiking trails. Fabulous historical attractions, great visitor center.

Cons - Campground is in the flight path of Dulles Airport, so planes are flying over head at all hours of the day and sometimes late at night/morning.  There is a shooting range nearby. Some noise during range hours. (Not late at night!)  Because there had been so little rain, there was not great fishing in the park.  (I went to Silver Lake, that was great!)

Traffic! Lots of local traffic on the main roads. (to be fair, it IS a suburb of DC ). Stores are all approx. 20 mins away. (Head towards Haymarket)

      Bull Run Regional Park

      Spacious Sites and family friendly

I stayed here with my family this summer and the park itself is a perfect spot for nature near DC. My son loved the giant playground and full water park at the campground, they even had discounted entry to the water park for campers. We stayed in site 20 which is an easy pull through and had a direct trail to the water park and the full network of trails in the park.

    Guide to Manassas

Bull Run Regional Park is situated within the Piedmont region of Virginia with elevations ranging from 200-400 feet above sea level. The park experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures averaging 85-90°F in July and August, while fall camping offers more moderate conditions. Gun range operations from 9am to 8pm daily create notable noise levels at certain campsites throughout the 7,000-acre property.

    What to do

Trail exploration: 7+ miles of hiking trails connect throughout Bull Run Regional Park with varied terrain suitable for casual walks or longer hikes. "We stayed in a cabin for 2 nights and had a great time. There are miles of trails and my gkids enjoyed the nature scavenger hunt. You even get a prize when you finish," writes Bridget H.

Water activities: Public access points are available but limited for creek recreation. As Jonny D. notes about Pohick Bay Campground: "The park is nice, but if you're looking for fishing don't go here, but you can in fact kayak down the creek." Boating options expand at Pohick Bay where visitors can rent equipment.

Disc golf courses: 18-hole layouts are available at several parks including Bull Run and Pohick Bay. Rachel L. recommends: "I'd recommend taking in a game of disc golf on their 18 hole course" at Pohick Bay Regional Park, which is about 30 minutes from Manassas.

    What campers like

Clean, well-maintained shower facilities: Campers frequently praise the bathroom amenities as exceptional. Yvonne B. raves about Bull Run Regional Park: "The best review I can give us of the bathrooms. They're with staying again alone. Locking doors, individual stalls. Hot dog. Best camping showers I've ever had."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: The region offers chances to spot native Virginia wildlife. According to Kathie M. at Pohick Bay Campground: "Beautiful campground located near the National Harbor. Eagles everywhere! Large clean sites. Great staff!"

Seasonal activities and events: Many campgrounds offer structured programming. Ben G. shares: "They informed us that they had a scavenger hunt for the kids going all weekend, they had an outdoor movie scheduled for Friday night, a campfire story time scheduled for Saturday night and crafts scheduled for Sunday morning."

    What you should know

Limited equestrian facilities: Horse campgrounds near Manassas, Virginia are scarce. Despite the region's history with cavalry, none of the surveyed campgrounds feature designated horse corrals or equestrian camping areas. Riders seeking specialized horse camping facilities near Manassas will need to travel further out.

Variable site conditions: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring advance preparation. Drew M. notes about Bull Run: "My site had a slight slope, but was easily overcome using additional blocks on the low side to get the trailer level."

Insect preparation essential: Ticks are particularly prevalent in warmer months at Cedarville State Forest. Ben J. warns: "LOTS and LOTS of ticks. I got one, but my wife and dog got about a dozen each. Just bring tweezers."

Noise considerations: Both natural and human-made sounds can impact the camping experience. As Drew M. describes: "Camp ground is nice. Check in was a breeze. The only drawback is that it is not quite. There is a shooting range in the park. It is on a flight path for DCA. And, I66 is not that far away."

    Tips for camping with families

Water park access: Day passes available for families at Bull Run's water facilities during summer months. Bridget H. shares: "This campground was full of stuff to do and we didn't even get to do a lot of it. The campground had a climbing wall on one afternoon."

Playground locations: Central play areas in main camping loops at several parks. Yvonne B. notes one limitation at Bull Run Regional Park: "Only draw back is that there's only one playground that's awkwardly located."

Educational opportunities: Historical programs throughout the region showcase Civil War history. Tom C. explains: "I like to take new families that have not camped before to this campsite, its close to home and if anyone decides to bail out there is a hotel 5 min away."

Alternative accommodations: Cabin rentals provide camping experience with more comfort. Roberta K. describes the layout: "The sites are all pull-through off the roads through the campground. So your camper faces the woods and you feel like you're all alone."

    Tips from RVers

Parking angles and access: Pull-through sites at several parks accommodate larger rigs but some have tight turns. Stuart O. cautions about Bull Run Regional Park: "We have found municipal campgrounds in Northern Virginia are a bit spendy for being government sponsored... But Bull Run manages to goose you even more. There are occupancy AND transaction fees that really add up if you're only there a few nights."

Drainage considerations: Heavy rains can affect certain sites due to infrastructure issues. Stuart O. continues: "While we were here, there was a fairly heavy day of rain. Couple inches, I suppose, but nothing Biblical. The mouths of the metal culverts in our loop were bent downward from campers driving over them, which obstructed the flow. Result was lots of standing water at our campsite."

Site selection strategy: Request interior loop spots for more privacy and less road noise. Robert P. advises about Graves Mountain Farm Campground: "We stay here at least 6 trips a year. Nice layout, not all sites are level (half). Staff are always nice and go out of their way to help."
