Description
At the southern terminus of Padre Island National Seashore's 60-mile beach drive, the shoreline widens into firm open sand beside the Mansfield Channel — a remote stretch defined by big skies, abundant shorebirds, and genuine isolation from the rest of the Texas Gulf Coast. Getting here demands a committed 4x4 with aired-down tires; deep soft sand and drift crossings along the route make traction essential, and the approach alone takes roughly two hours from the park entrance. The channel-side flats attract an impressive variety of wading and migratory birds, and pack-it-in, pack-it-out ethics are a strong norm among the campers who make the trek.
