East Tennessee is home to a part of the oldest mountain range in the world, the Great Smoky Mountains. As the name suggests, the peaks are often shrouded in fog, but that doesn’t make the view from Clingmans Dome any less spectacular. At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome towers as the highest point in Tennessee and the third highest point east of the Mississippi River. Make sure to say hi to the hardcore hikers, many people hiking the entire Appalachian Trail will stop at this unforgettable lookout. 


A clear day at the dome observatory provides views as far as 100 miles. But explorers camping in Tennessee should plan on hiking their way up to the point, the roadway that leads to the observatory closes during inclement weather and from Dec. 1 to March 31 every year. 


If you’re camping with the kids and they’re looking for more occupation than your campsite offers, many of the natural attractions in Tennessee are also family friendly. Lookout Mountain is only minutes from Chattanooga and offers several world-famous sites like Rock City and the See Seven States point.

Greeter Falls Campground is located less than a half mile from the Greeter Falls Trailhead, adjacent to the 16,000 acre Savage Gulf Wilderness area offering over 50 miles of well-marked trails for every skill level. The .08 mile Greeter Falls Trail loop connects you to three awe inspiring waterfalls as well as the nearby Blue Hole swimming area.

Horseshoe Bend Marina is a secluded get away situated on the scenic head waters of Center Hill Lake.  Our marina is only (by water) a mile from Rock Island State Park's Sand Bar and boat ramp.  It is the perfect place to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Whether you are wanting to go boating, fishing, or camping, we have quite a bit to offer. 

As one of the few marinas on Center Hill Lake that stays open year 'round, we rent boats, boat slips, and camp sites.  Fall scenic tours and year 'round guided fishing tours are available also.  We have a boat ramp that is easily accessible even when the lake water level is low.  Our store offers a variety of drinks, snacks, camping supplies, boating supplies, and fishing supplies.

Horseshoe Bend Marina

All 26,000 acres of Fall Creek Falls State Park contain some of Tennessee’s most rugged beauty. Sharing its moniker with the waterfall of the same name, numerous other falls can also be found cascading through the park including Cane Creek, Piney, and Virgin Falls. Hike through the Cumberland Plateau and enjoy exploring 56 miles of trails in the park, countless natural caves, and even an 18-hole golf course!

 Looking to rough it? You’re in luck. A strenuous four mile hike brings you to Virgin Falls, featuring 9 primitive campsites below the falls for the more adventurous camper. 

 For those seeking a less demanding camping experience, look no further. With over 220 campsites, camping at Fall Creek Falls State Park is a breeze and provides every luxury you could ask for. All sites come equipped with grills, water, tables, fire rings, and access to numerous bathhouses. Almost half of the sites have sewer connection and some will accommodate RVs up to 65 feet in length. Satisfy your every need at Fall Creek Falls!



Fall Creek Falls State Park

South Cumberland boasts over 90 miles of backpacking trails with 93 campsites, eight group sites, and one rustic lodge, the Hobbs Cabin. These campsites are located within 12 designated backcountry campgrounds across the Fiery Gizzard and Savage Gulf trail systems. South Cumberland encourages visitors to reserve their campsite early to ensure you have a site upon arrival. Reservations are required. Remember, follow all park rules and be prepared to have a rewarding backcountry experience.

All campsites are limited to six people. Site capacity information can be found under site features on the campsite reservation page. Please look closely at your campsite's capacity when reserving.

Each site has a designated fire ring. Hiking is required to reach the sites, although a few sites are available only 120 yards from the parking lot. Water must be filtered from natural sources or carried in, be sure to check with the ranger stations about water availability. A pit toilet is also available at each campground.
