South Fork Chetco

South Fork Chetco is a primitive camping area with minimal amenities. There is one pit toilet located near a small circle of 3-4 campsites along the river. This is essentially wild camping with no hookups, shower facilities, or other developed amenities. The natural setting along the river is the primary attraction rather than convenience facilities.

South Fork Chetco operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no formal reservation system in place. This primitive camping area doesn't have an on-site host or reservation office. For the most current information about potential seasonal closures or usage regulations, contact the local Forest Service office that manages this area before your trip.

South Fork Chetco is located along the smaller South Fork of the Chetco River where it meets the main Chetco River (North Fork). To reach the camping area, drive past the Redwood river access point, through a small neighborhood, and look for the entrance on the left just before a bridge. The location is somewhat remote, about a mile beyond the Redwood access point. The camping spots are situated directly along the riverside in a peaceful setting.

South Fork Chetco is better suited for cars, trucks, and smaller camping setups rather than large RVs. The access roads and camping spots aren't designed for substantial recreational vehicles. Given the primitive nature of this camping area and potentially limited clearance on access routes, smaller vehicles with some clearance are recommended. Consider using a car or truck rather than attempting to navigate larger RVs into this more rugged camping location.
