Buffalo Lodge Lake

Buffalo Lodge Lake operates as a county-managed campground with electric hookups and multiple access options including drive-in, walk-in, and boat access. The facility provides basic amenities like toilets, picnic tables, and allows campfires and pets, though campers should note the rough access road conditions.

Sites operate on a first-come, first-serve basis with no reserved spots, creating a more relaxed atmosphere during weekdays. One visitor found midweek stays notably quiet but suggested weekends might be busier given the open parking arrangement. The lake offers water access, though summer algae growth and crawfish presence may affect swimming conditions. For a free campground & close to Minot, it was convenient

After advice from friends, we decided to test this place out since it is near Minot. We stayed Sunday through Tuesday, which was very peaceful for a small campground. I couldn't imagine this place on an actual weekend since there are no "reserved" camper spots, you can pull up and park anywhere.

I was forewarned about the toilets, there are 2 and only get dumped twice a year (beginning & end), good thing we have a camper. LOL!

I wanted to go swim but there was so much algae in the water after you wade out that I'd be afraid to get caught in them. Plus, the baby crawdads clinging to my legs made me think twice about going any deeper than my knees.
