A creek runs through the property. That single fact shapes most of what campers come to Kirkland Creek Campground and Cabins for, from tent sites positioned along the water to a stocked trout pond where fish reportedly reach two pounds or more. The campground sits outside Bryson City in a fold of the North Carolina mountains, operating seasonally from April through October with rates ranging from $27 to $120 per night depending on site type.
Getting here takes some attention. The access road involves twists, a bridge crossing, and sections that run tight through the hills. Reviewers towing large rigs note the challenge directly: one camper pulling a 36-foot trailer described the road as "a little tight in places" but managed with staff assistance. The owner, Jason, is frequently mentioned as hands-on and willing to help guests back into sites. Cell coverage is limited, with one reviewer reporting a single bar on T-Mobile, and WiFi reaches some sites better than others, with signal reported more reliably near the front of the property.
The trout pond draws anglers specifically. As Cody R. puts it, there's a "trout fishing pond on the property if you're hungry for a fresh caught meal." Beyond fishing, the campground keeps chickens, ducks, and quail on site, which younger visitors have responded to well. Sites are gravel, the bathhouse has hot water, and firewood can be delivered to your site. Full hookups with electric, water, and sewer connections are available for RVs, along with a dump station.
The campground was under new ownership as of late 2019 and has been undergoing ongoing renovations since. Reviewers across multiple seasons note visible improvements and describe the facilities as clean. Reservations are accepted, pets are allowed, and the season closes at the end of October. Nearby alternatives include Ridge Top Motel and Campground and Grumpy Bear Campground for campers weighing options in the area.
Kirkland Creek works best for anglers, families with kids, and RV campers who want full hookups in a low-density setting away from the larger commercial campgrounds closer to town.
