Giant City State Park

We came down for a spontaneous camping trip to explore SNF and found Giant City to be a great place to stay. We stayed in the primitive camp site, while there were others there, everyone was dispersed far enough that it felt private. Camp grounds were clean, quiet, and the camp host and park ranger…

In need of attention. Illinois needs to invest in parks

State park...really not much to do if you do not fish.  Pit toilets that need attention shower house by the boat ramp ( outside of campground) that were filthy.  They are used by everyone...not just campers so the abuse was evident.  Many large groups camped together which was cool....but the…

Large campground

Overall a great stay, very busy as it was full the entire time we were there while the state park down the road was empty. Nice place for families, most campers seemed to be fishing. Absolutely must check how level the spots are before you book, as lots of sites are over 4 inch incline, which seems…

Nice campground

The biggest thing about this campground is first come first serve..and one loop is closed for renovations (as of 2021 camping season, May). Most you can spend here is 14 days, which lots of locals do. Very quiet family friendly with large mostly level spots. Our go to when visiting the local…

Shady Rest campground

Really great campground. Good mix of tents and RVs. Bath house was very well kept and clean. Showers ran cold at first but after a few mins it gets warmer! There were plenty of pit toliets through out the campground and trash cans. My tent site was clean, good flat spot for tent, picnic table and…

Lovely gem in Southern IL

We spent part of spring break there this year. Sites are beautifully wooded with many excellent lake views, even with full hookups. Easy access to great bike trails.

Nice campground, lots of noise

The campground was nice and very clean. There were a lot of families with kids, which is no big deal, except for they were playing who can scream the loudest and longest, which was a little annoying. You could also hear cars and sirens from the highway. A couple times through the night we heard…

Great view!

Electric and water. Great short term camping. There is a lot of history and nearby Cape Girardeau is a very neat city to visit.

Quiet camping convenient to I-57

Wayne Fitzgerald State Park is on Rend Lake, just off I-57 in Southern Illinois. It’s a great place for camping, fishing and bikes. It’s convenient for a short stop if you are traveling through, or as a destination. Although it’s right off the interstate there is no traffic noise. The campground…

Not too crowded, plenty to do

We went camping for a weekend to welcome in Spring 2021 (March 20) and it was CROWDED. The RV side of the park was completely full and there was only 2 or 3 open sites for the “primitive” sites, fortunately one of those empty sites was right next to us

Although our stay was nice, i feel like it…

Family experience

Nice place to ride utv’s, 4 wheelers, even your jeeps. Holiday weekends are a bit crazy but overall it’s a pretty good place to ride. The rules are kinda strict. Things like, No bug lights, don’t even think about getting on there grass. Big NO NO! There’s more but that was the ones that got my…
