Best Campgrounds near Sedalia, MO

Campgrounds near Sedalia, Missouri range from developed state parks to dispersed camping areas, with several mixed-use facilities accommodating both tents and RVs. Knob Noster State Park Campground, located about 20 miles east of Sedalia, provides electric hookups for RVs along with tent sites in shaded areas. Missouri State Fair RV Park offers seasonal options directly in Sedalia for those seeking urban proximity, while Robert's Bluff Access provides more rustic camping experiences approximately 30 miles north. Several locations also feature cabin accommodations, including Happy Acres and Knob Noster State Park, expanding lodging options beyond traditional camping.

The camping season extends year-round at some facilities, though amenities vary significantly across locations. Most developed campgrounds provide electric hookups, with fewer offering full RV connections including water and sewer. "This is a very quiet, relaxing campground. There are several hiking trails, a small lake and they even rent kayaks," noted a camper about Knob Noster State Park. Reservations are recommended, particularly for electric sites which tend to fill quickly on weekends. Primitive camping areas like Robert's Bluff generally require less advance planning but offer minimal facilities. Weather conditions remain mild enough for comfortable camping throughout much of the year, though summer humidity can be challenging. Reviews consistently mention the quality of facilities at state park campgrounds, with multiple visitors highlighting recently renovated bathhouses and shower facilities. One camper observed, "Clean sites, good bath houses and restrooms, easy hiking trails for kids." However, reviews for privately operated facilities show greater variability in quality and amenities. Campgrounds near the Katy Trail offer strategic positioning for cyclists exploring the historic rail-trail. Wildlife sightings, particularly raccoons, appear frequently in visitor reviews, suggesting proper food storage is essential when camping in the area.

    Roberts Bluff Access

    Nice Little Overnight Spot

Super convenient overnight spot, about 5 min from I70. Pulled in at about 6:00 in the evening and 2 spots were already taken. We just pulled in for a quick stop for the night. The spot was big enough for our truck and pop-up camper. Quiet area and clean.

    Osage Bluff

    Nice place to stay

We stayed here as just an overnight stop on our way to another destination. The check-in process was smooth, the price was right, and the campground was very well maintained. That said, I didn't check out the restrooms while there, but had planned to. If they're maintained like the rest of the campground, I have no reason to believe that they are in great shape.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground — Arrow Rock State Historic Site

    Quiet and clean

We stayed 2 weekend nights in late summer/early Fall. Every site was occupied but still it was pretty quiet. The bathrooms/showers are clean, but maybe could use a few more given the number of sites.

Nice ~2 mile walking trail through the woods was shady and cool despite the heat.

We were in site 019, which was at the end of a loop and had only one neighbor. It backs up to the little lake, so we did hear some noise from the people fishing.

We occasionally got 1 bar on T-mobile.

    DONT STAY HERE

The road to get in and out of this place is absolutely ridiculous. You can try to go 1mph to avoid potholes or washed out area just to hit the next pothole and washed out area. Dont make the mistake we made! Read all the Google reviews (including the 5 star ones which also complain about the road)  i stopped counting after 25.. that explains alot about how much the owners care. The road was so bad we took a loss on the money and stayed elsewhere. Id rather loose out on a few hundred then damage my vehicle getting in and out of this place multiple times during my stay.

    Cooper’s Landing Campgrounds and Marina

    Mostly Scenery.

I do Not like that the fire pits nearest to the river are 30 inches from a 30ft drop off!  Only 2 people can enjoy the campfire because of that.

Secondly, they do Not provide tables for the campers.  Kinda expensive to Not have tables.

Not a good fishing place because it's a treacherous walk down.

    The evening band was awesome!

Will Not be back because of the above.

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

    Great place to stay overnight.

This was a great park for us to pull over and get off the freeway overnight we did it on our way to Kansas from MI and from Kansas to MI. The store was very nice and the staff there were friendly and accommodative. The only thing I would recommend is getting some shade in the center of the park where the pull-throughs are on concrete.

    Robert's Bluff

This is not campsite- this overnight sleep parking situation

It was a great camping spot until. At least 10-15 cars drove in out of the area to see if available and then at around 9:30 pm pitch black someone decided to camped. It’s not very quiet at all. You will wake up from cars driving almost evreytime. There’s people that live in that area that were driving and screaming at each other driving 4x4 little cars. I hate camping in the Midwest

Dispersed camping opportunities near Sedalia, Missouri extend beyond formal campgrounds, with options ranging from 5 to 30 miles from the city center. The region's elevation averages around 900 feet above sea level, with camping areas typically situated near water bodies including the Missouri River watershed. Summer temperatures consistently reach the high 80s with humidity levels over 70%, making spring and fall generally more comfortable for tent camping.

What to do

Fishing at lake access points: Roberts Bluff Access provides three designated camping areas with fire rings near the water. "There's a river at the site but didn't explore it any. I came after a day of rain so the fire areas were flooded but the actual pull in spot was nice and dry!" notes Abby M. about the Roberts Bluff Access.

Historic site exploration: The Arrow Rock State Historic Site includes hiking trails that pass by historic structures. "The Santa Fe Trail crosses the MO river close to this sight. There is even a one room Jail and the George Caleb Bingham's house," explains Leah P. about the Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground.

Kayaking on park lakes: Lake access with rentals provides paddling opportunities at several parks. "There are a couple of small lakes, one of which has kayak rentals. Several hiking trails. I have stayed here before and never encountered any problems If you want a quiet relaxing campground, this may be for you," shares JoAnn P.

What campers like

Level concrete pads: Some campgrounds feature well-maintained, level sites that make setup easier. "Well maintained campground with nice, level concrete pads. Sites are spacious," reports Maggie C. about Knob Noster State Park Campground.

Trail accessibility: Multiple campsites connect directly to hiking trails. "Beautiful secluded campsite - amenities were clean. Kayak rentals were available for Lake Buteo - kayakers were out on the lake, and the lake has a trail all around it. Nice trail," explains Kelsie L.

Shower facilities: Clean bathroom facilities rank highly in camper reviews. "Bath houses (there are at least 2) have 4 unisex shower pods that are clean and have good pressure. There are no sinks or mirrors, just shower and bench," notes Maggie C.

What you should know

Wildlife encounters: Multiple reports mention active wildlife, particularly raccoons, requiring proper food storage. "Raccoon have taken over the park. And the state workers have done nothing. I had my 2025 subaru crosstrek there and they put scratches all over my car and tore the window seal out on one of the windows," warns Angela D.

Cell coverage limitations: Signal strength varies significantly by location and carrier. "We occasionally got 1 bar on T-mobile," notes Kevin M. about Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground.

Seasonal flooding concerns: Sites near water may experience flooding after heavy rain. "I was told to check the weather just to make sure it's not going to flood. It's right beside a river," advises Melody D. about Robert's Bluff.

Tips for camping with families

Look for flat biking areas: Some campgrounds offer safe cycling areas for children. "Knob Noster State Park is a great park for the grandkids to ride their new bikes on the level smooth campground road in safety, and for the adults to catch up over some cold beverages," shares John J.

Consider campground noise levels: Some sites experience more traffic than others. "The campground filled up on the weekend but it was very quiet," reports JoAnn P., while another camper at a different site notes, "It's not very quiet at all. You will wake up from cars driving almost everytime."

Check for water recreation options: Lakes with gentle shorelines offer family-friendly activities. "Nice spot to camp for the night if you're driving through Missouri. Not a terrible amount of mosquitos and the roads don't get bad after an average rain," notes Truly W. about the best places to camp near Sedalia, Missouri.
