Grand Isle State Park Campground

So many ways to break this down

1\. The campgrounds. RV and tent camping sites are all pull through. Not big spots, no privacy or shade ... location, location, location. They all have fire pits, water and elect. Some have separate grills. The Tent only sites are on the beach. You have to carry your gear, no driving on the beach. Pick a site closer to the bath houses - there are 2\. Big bath houses, plenty of showers.

2\. The Park. There are 2 piers for saltwater fishing as well as a dock for inlet fishing. There are other small marshy areas to fish depending on the tide.

3\. The town. Grand Isle is all about being at the end of the world and fishing. Be prepared to see cars parked along the side of the road and people fishing from any spot there is water. There is water everywhere.

We were not prepared to do serious fishing on this trip but still had a blast. We played with crabs in the inlet, put our feet in the Gulf, watched shrimp boats. There is a hiking trail, but at high tide it is flooded so you can't access it.

No matter the time of year or the wind speed - BUG SPRAY IS A NECESSITY!

Great beach tent camping. Fantastic facilities including FREE laundry. Great crabbing! Just trow a chicken neck on a string and just pull them in. Unfortunately, we had a major storm on our first 2 days but we had a blast. The locals are awesome!

Beach camping

Pros:

*   Great beach camping
*   You will see lots of dolphins
*   Speckled trout fishing is good
*   Crabbing is great!
*   It is secluded and the town is nice too, if you forget something and need to head in or just want to go grab a daquiri

Cons:

*   Mosquitos are insane here, get the strongest bug spray you can and you will be OK
*   There is a plant nearby and industrial noises woke me up throughout the night, EVERY night. I was hoping the sound of the waves would drown it out

Beach Camping

Beautiful is an understatement! We camped right on the beach. The beach was very clean, but the ocean was a little dirty from the flooding. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. We saw baby dolphins and crabs. Only wish we could’ve drove up on the beach as well. Showers/bathrooms were spotless!

This state park is located at the very tip of the Island. It is a beautiful spot that allows you to camp directly on the beach with tents and a stones throw from the beach in an RV. There are about a dozen tent sites and probably 30 RV pull through spots with water and electric hookups. The shower and bathroom are air conditioned and are very well maintained and there is even a dish washing station right outside the wash center. It is $18 a night to camp with a tent and I believe it’s $30 for a pull through spot (in the off season). Only downside to this park is that the gates close at 10 PM and if you’re not already registered to camp (with the key code for the gate) you won’t be able to camp here if you are arriving late and there are no other camp sites for tents on the island. So show up early and enjoy! 

Really Nice Park

It is a long drive to the end of Grand Isle, but you are rewarded with a nice state park with clean amenities. Large flat pull-through sites (much larger than we needed but they can accommodate large RVs). Bathrooms are among the cleanest I have ever seen in any state park. Free laundry is a nice perk but do it early (I was first at 7 am and it piled up soon after). Beach access. Not nicest beach but ok. The $25 fee does not include a $6 processing fee (only applicable for the first night) or tax. The only thing I didn’t like were the vicious mosquitoes!

Bring your bug spray!

All pull through, paved sites.  Nice boardwalk to the beach.  Don’t expect clean white sand and blue water though.  If you like to fish,  this is your spot. BRING FANS AND BUG SPRAY

Nice,clean 

This park is way south in Louisiana. It was a super interesting area to explore. We had some of the best fried chicken we have ever had from a gas station! The beach view isn’t the greatest with oil rigs dotting the horizon, but it is such an interesting area and we are so glad we checked it out! The campground was nice and it also had free laundry which is a huge plus!

Unique Area of Louisiana 

The campground is nice and well maintained. We were in site 14 for 8 days. Some of the turns, though open, were a little tight for bigger rigs, with several leaving deep tracks in the soft ground and mud. Most of the sites, though reasonably level, had fairly large low areas that tended to flood with water a few inches deep. The water did tend to drain within a day or so after the rain stopped. AT&amp;T coverage was“fair”, generally with 3 Bars and up to~9 MB/s, but usually around or less than 0.4 MB/s. Although the campground is supposed to have WiFi, I was unable to get a connection to it. There is no cable, but we did have DISH satellite coverage at our site, as would any of the sites, so I didn’t test OTA DTV channels

  

The beach area was nice, but it was rainy and very windy most of our stay, as two major winter storms raged across the country, though Terri did get out to walk it whenever the weather permitted. One day we did see a shoal of porpoises just out from the park’s pier.

  

There is only one trail in the campground looks to have low lying areas that flood or hold water most of the time, making hiking it problematic. Although there is a grocery/hardware/everything store a just a few miles down the road, their selection of groceries was rather limited, so don’t plan to get fancy.

Very well done and very RV orientated, Nicely spaced level sites. Decent dell service on both ATT &amp; Verizon. Quite a hike to the beach thru mosquito infested under brush. The wholeark islevel making for easy bike riding.

Very RV orientated for a state park

The beach was a 5 minute walk from the campground. The park was clean with clean restrooms and nice people mainly quiet. Kind of narrow paths so be careful if your bringing a big trailer that doesn’t turn so sharp.

Campground is closed to the public post Hurricane Ida. 
Camp sites are being occupied by displaced locals. Locked gate with 24/7 guard at the gate.

We stayed on a beach site in October of 2020 and it wasn’t too crowded - all of the sites are in a line down the beach front but there’s decent space in between each spot and they back up to the dunes. It’s a gorgeous beach front to walk down and it’s decently isolated from developed areas of grand isle. There is a picnic table at each spot and we hid our food container underneath it, however we didn’t secure it enough and animals got into it over the night. There is no cover or respite from the sun or sand, and the bathroom is near the parking lot. Perfect time of year because the nights were cool , however you can’t avoid an early wake up with the sun and heat in the morning.
