Not a camping spot

The road that the coordinates lead us to was very narrow and rough and ended at a gate just 300 feet from the lake. Fortunately there was a turn around at the gate otherwise we would have been screwed

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Tripod Reservoir Campground?

Tripod Reservoir Campground is a primitive camping area with minimal amenities. The site does not offer developed facilities like restrooms, potable water, or designated campsites with tables or fire rings. Campers should come fully prepared with all necessary supplies, including water, food, and waste disposal options. The undeveloped nature of this location means you'll need to be self-sufficient during your stay.

Do I need a permit to camp at Tripod Reservoir?

While specific permit information isn't definitively established for Tripod Reservoir, many similar primitive camping areas in Idaho operate on a first-come, first-served basis without formal permits. However, the presence of a gate near the reservoir suggests some access restrictions may exist. It's advisable to check with the local land management agency (likely the Forest Service or BLM) before your trip to confirm current permit requirements and access regulations.

What fishing opportunities are available at Tripod Reservoir?

Tripod Reservoir offers fishing opportunities in a secluded setting, though access is limited by a gate about 300 feet from the water. The reservoir likely contains typical Idaho mountain lake species, possibly including trout varieties. Due to the remote location and limited access, fishing here would be best suited for anglers seeking a more solitary experience. Visitors should bring all necessary fishing gear and check Idaho Fish and Game regulations for licensing requirements and any special rules specific to this water body before their trip.

Where is Tripod Reservoir Campground located in Idaho?

Tripod Reservoir is located in Idaho's backcountry, accessible via a narrow, rough road that can be challenging to navigate. The approach road ends at a gate approximately 300 feet from the lake. The remote location features limited turnaround space at the gate, which could pose difficulties for larger vehicles. Given the access challenges, visitors should consider high-clearance vehicles when planning their trip and be prepared for primitive conditions in this secluded Idaho setting.
