Elk Summit Lookout
Elk Summit Lookout is situated in the Clearwater National Forest, surrounded by dense forests and rugged terrain. Temperatures can range from lows in the 30s Fahrenheit during cooler months to highs in the 80s during summer. Nearby, visitors can explore the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and the Lochsa River, offering opportunities for hiking and fishing.

The Elk Summit lookout tower remains intact although not currently used by the Forest Service. It is not accessible by the public. The log cabin at the base of the lookout may be added to the Forest Service cabin rental program in the future. The site is often used by snowmobilers as a rest point.

Directions
From State Highway 14, turn north at the convenience store/Laundromat at the signed marked "Sweeney Hill." This road becomes Forest Road #1199. Follow Road #1199 approximately 9 miles to its junction with Road #417. Turn south (left) on Road #417 and proceed approximately 1 - 3/4 miles to the lookout.
