Great Park & Camping

We can’t hold weather (high winds and nearly freezing temps) against the park or the campground, but our visit would have been even better had we been able to enjoy the outdoors more.

Our campsite #27 was very clean and pretty and private also very level. Downside the fire ring was old and had no grate and for the cold windy evenings having it far away from our camper we were just sitting out there with no wind blocking. (Yes that was only a downside due to our trip’s weather.) It was so windy we couldn’t leave anything out. So many trees would be ideal in the summer providing good shade and again privacy. There is also a small creek just at the edge of the woods which my kids would have loved to explore more with warmer weather. Just across the road from site #27 was a cluster of 4 campsites and the end to one of the trails. Continuing up to the road to the loop was the start to another hiking trail. During our stay about 100+ trail racers marched by at 5am but other than that it was pretty calm with just a few hikers now and then.

We hiked, geocached, played mini golf, played on the playgrounds, got our Jr Ranger Badges and visited nearby Blairsville. Overall a great place and we’d definitely come back especially to enjoy all the other park amenities and areas to enjoy the water.
