Big Lagoon State Park Campground

Nice in the Spring

We have camped here twice - once in early April and once in mid May. There were noticeably more bugs -- specifically termites and what we think were deer flies in May. It was pretty bad and they would swarm at certain times of the day. We all came home with a lot of bites and itching. Obviously when camping it is expected to be surrounded by bugs and wildlife, but I have never experienced the amount of bugs and other creatures on my campsite than at this park. There were a lot of rodents roaming around waiting to steal food during the day and at night. So, just prepare yourself to deal with that.

With that said, this is a pretty good campground. There are water and electrical hook ups at each site, a lagoon nearby for the kids to play in the sand and wade in the water, and many trails. There is also a nice playground near the lagoon for the kids. It is also close to regular beach access (about a 5 minute drive down the road).

If you are tent camping, I would highly recommend doing your research and picking a site with adequate shade because most of the sites are not shaded.
