Fort Ross Reef Campground

Just south of Fort Ross itself in a not well marked turn is the Fort Ross Reef Campground.  It is small - not many sites.  There is also a day use area that appears to be a favortie of scuba divers.  I had driven by many times on trips up the coast when the gate was locked.

Primitive sites with table and fire ring.

Might be tough to get down there with a large RV or trailer.  When I was there most of the RVs' were on the back of trucks or they were tent campers like me.

But it was open once so gave it a shot. Tucked away in the trees I found it is be a nice spot.  Definitely good for surf fishing. I did some tidepooling as well. No reservations but I went right in and had a choice of a few spots.  Access to the coast with a short walk is always a plus in my book.

Some of the sites are a bit tight.  Some are just right by the highway so go further down the road.  There is also poison oak in the brush so keep an eye out.
