Saratoga Lake Campground

Just outside Saratoga Springs, this campground has the basics on a lake. Tent sites are out in the open with no privacy and few trees for hanging a hammock. However, there are pretty good views of the lake. Sites have picnic tables and fire pits, and the vault toilet was pretty basic. If you need a shower, go into town to the free hot springs and take a shower for free (altho in a very prison like atmosphere). Be sure to spend some time in the hot springs pools, or go down to the river to soak in cooler water. Plenty of restraunts in town to get a great bite to eat, and there is even a microbrewery at the local spa/lodge/resort.

Basic camping close to a cool town

Friend and I did a spur of the moment road trip down through the Snowies. We stopped Sunday night, drove into town to find the bath house (free hot spring, freaking awesome!). We drove a mile north, found the campgrounds, made camped and passed out. Woke up the next morning to a beautiful sunrise on a steaming lake with tons of different birds (pelicans to meadowlarks), went back to the bath house (again, FREE!!) and drove about 10 minutes to the beginning of the snowy range access. Beautiful, amazing site.

Great area

Beautiful views of the Rockies down in Colorado and the plains stretching out east, plus the nearby rock formations at Medicine Bow. Excellent area to get that backcountry experience just a few feet from your car. 

Mountains meets plains

Just north of Saratoga, Wy. Is Saratoga lake, and the aptly named Saratoga Lake Campground.
It has tiers of camp sites mostly set up for RV'S but a few towards the water which tent campers will be comfortable. 
It has vault toilets on either side of it and a playground near the main entrance. 
A boat ramp is also by the entrance. 
There is not much privacy and vitually zero shade, but the views of the sparse landscape and the abundance of birds and other wildlife life mitigates that.
Town is not far away, along with the natural hot springs the town is famous for.
Fishing is in abundance from not only the lake but the Platte River known for its blue ribbon trout waters.
All in all the positive charms outweigh the slight drawbacks of this spot.

Nice little get away

I arrived late to this campground but just in time for sunset. The tent sites on are the lake which is beautiful but arriving at sunset let me meet all the bugs of the evening. They weren't mosquitoes, I didn't get but they were out by the hundreds. The RVs are close to the tents so it was bit noisy. no tent pads

Easy to access, Beautiful lake 

Love this campground. 

This is a city campground on a beautiful lake!  $10/night without hookups and $15 for electric sites.  The electric sites are a little close together so we opted for a non-electric site right on the lake front. Campfires allowed. Vault toilets available, but could use a little maintenance. No reservations, first-come first serve. AT&amp;T cell service is strong at the campground. 

While you are here, go to Bella’s for the most unexpectedly amazing Italian food and phenomenal wine list.  Visit Hobo Hot Springs, the free hot springs in town. 

Saratoga is a great small town with really nice people. It seems that masks are optional as we have only seen about 30-40% of people in town wearing them (August ‘20). 

My kinda place

I love a place where I can just plug in the van and rest on road trips with a great view of water and quite enough to hear all the nature sounds. Great bird watching and pronghorn sightings.

Worth the 20 min drive off the Interstate

Stopped in Saratoga for one night. Unplanned. Found a spot on the lake. Had electricity though we didn’t use it. Pit toilets. Lots of water fowl on the lake. Close to the Hobo Hot Spring. Beautiful drive to get there. 

Quaint, clean, quiet  

Nice spot near the leak. Cheap, convenient and a lot of space.

Great camping

No privacy but no one is here.  2 handicap accessible marked sites.  Picnic tables and fire pits. Right on the lake but no bugs!  Clean, no smell, tp pit toilets.  $10 without electricity but no way to pay.

Pretty Lake - very quiet 

It seems that the care and maintenance have taken a nose dive. The once-charming location is now marred by overgrown weeds, making it a challenge to even maneuver into a site.

It's truly disheartening to witness this decline, as this place had the potential to be a lovely spot for a getaway. I’d give the site a 2 out of 5 rating from me due to the lack of upkeep, the location still shines brightly with a perfect 5 out of 5 score. The view remains as great as ever, and the value for the price paid is still noteworthy. 

It's a bittersweet experience when you see a place that held such promise fall from its former glory. In my opinion, there needs to be steps taken to restore this location to its former beauty and make it a great destination once again.
