Fee camping with cell signal

, 30 minutes from Purgatory Ski Resort. There's 1 toilet, no tp. Can get busy. If you're lucky, try to get a spot right next to the creek, it's beautiful

Great free camping!

I got there around 4:30 pm on a Friday and was able to grab a good spot. A lot of RVs near the creek already, which were much closer than 100 ft distance. I car camped, but a lot of tent camping spots if you’re willing to walk from your car a bit. Great spots, kind people, free, bathrooms too.

Hidden Gem

Beautiful! A lot of drive by activity during the day but very peaceful at night. Gorgeous scenery. Great area of million dollar highway.

Convenient

This was a great find on a day when we had no reservations. There are plenty of sites, but it did fill up before dark. One of the reasons we went here was the toilets….however, they were closed due to “vandalism”. Quite a disappointment. It was crowded and there was no privacy.

Great accessible campground

Just a few miles from Silverton with minimal elevation change Short dirt road access, some potholes inside the area. Pit toilets are available and reasonably clean. Price is free with a 14-day limit.

Etiquette is to park perpendicular to the river so as to accommodate more campers in the limited space. One million-dollar Class A parked parallel to the river, absorbing a solid 4 spaces, while campers are being turned away, so please don’t be ‘that guy.’

Lots of spaces for tent camping deeper in the woods. No road noise. Exceptional Mountain View’s. This place is hard to beat!

Not bad at all

About 5 or so miles from Silverton. 14 day limit. Nice shady spots if you turn immediately off the entrance road when you first come in, make left immediately cool hidden spots if not taken. Fire pits, pit toilet, wood scattered, beautifully green mountains, and trees. The creek is fairly large. No water, or garbage. Cool at night. AT&T 2 bars pretty much everywhere.

Worth a look

Excellent Boondocking area. Close to Silverton on Mineral Creek. Plenty of free tent camping along the road too

Kendall Campground

We spent 2 nights at 2 different spots in Kendall Campground. We enjoyed both. Loved the soothing sound of the creek flowing - great for sleeping in our roof top tent. We had decent Verizon cell service which was a huge plus! The only thing that would’ve made it better is if the toilet has been open. We were there in early June and it still had a note saying “Closed For Season”. Luckily we had our portable with us. And people who came in after us blocked the drive for us to get out of our spot the next morning.

It was great for our first boondocking experience!

We really enjoyed this spot! Close to the water is more open and crowded but with our 22ft camper we found a great site a little farther away in the trees with lots of space. We liked it so much that we gave up a prepaid day at an RV park in the town.

Dispersed with a toilet

Large dispersed camping area with vault toilets. Lots of fire rings scattered around the rocky area. This site can get very full and very loud as it is very popular and close to Silverton. This campground can get very dusty as it is next to the forest road. It can also get loud in the day and early evening with OHVs going by and a somewhat party atmosphere in the campground. Currently the Ice Lake trailhead is closed due to a major first fire in 2020.

A great creekside campground

Campground full just ahead of the July 4 weekend, 2021. We were able to get a site right on Mineral Creek, and found ourselves within a great community of people, many of them "Jeep" owners who make the mountain roads nearly every day.

Close to the town of Silverton. No hookups but free camping.

Awesome view. Very cold at night. It was nice being next to the creek. A little busy but we were able to find a cozy private spot in my rooftop tent.

Open area and free

Was a really nice area with a ton of campsites off the dirt path or close to the river. Was a decent water puddle to get in and out but there is little path nearby where small cars can fit easily and make it though without worries. Bathrooms are currently closed and it's decently close to a dispensary if that floats your boat.

Nice open area by the creek

Kendall camping area is the first camping area on this dirt road, and it’s quite nice, very flat, right along the mineral creek! We parked here for a few nights and rode our motorcycle down to the trail head which is at South Fork Mineral Creek campground. There are several other free campsites along the dirt road before you reach the trail head. The trail goes to ice lake which is very beautiful! Close to 4 mile hike up & 4 mile down!

Also some neat waterfalls if you follow the south fork mineral creek roughly a mile up from south fork mineral creek campground.

Nice place

Love the area. We parked close to the road tucked in some trees. Wanted to be by the water but it was taken by multiple coach RVs. Road noise is fairly loud during the day, but for free I won’t complain (too much). Dispersed camping area only. Has a pit toilet but that’s about it. About 10 minutes from Silverton.
