## Overview

 Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.
## Recreation

 Fishing is excellent for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish, with frequent fishing tournaments. The lake is also popular for jet skiing, water skiing and swimming.
## Facilities

 The park features 47 campsites with electric hookups. Additional amenities include group camping, a playground, boat ramp and hot showers.
## Natural Features

 Sam Rayburn Reservoir, also called Lake Sam Rayburn, boasts over 114,000 surface acres, making it the largest man-made lake completely in Texas. It\'s surrounded by the Angelina National Forest, and is within short proximity to the Sabine and Davy Crockett National Forests. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The 20,700-acre Bannister Wildlife Management Area is on the northern peninsula of the lake. Hikers and bikers can come here to explore the designated Eastern Wild Turkey restoration site.

Hanks Creek

  We always have a good time. We had a shelter site, but also set up a tent. Reservations online were quick and easy, and when we arrived our site was ready for us. The Host soon came around and gave us our passes. 
     It was cool and a little rainy. But we had fun fishing. Thanks for everything.

Vacation and Wife's Birthday camping

Nice campground with nice amenities, but i think it's really too geared towards RVs and daily use. I'd call it an RV park more than a campground

You have your standard sites, but they're all powered and hookups so whatever you get is going to have an RV near you.

There are your standard table and fire rings, but you also have decent bathrooms (with some vault toilets mixed in for surprises) and showers...

Great location if you want to use the boat ramps and head out onto the water.

Really only for day trippers or RVs

Campground is nice but most sites aren’t very long. Sites along the water are nice because you can beach your boat for easy access. The boat ramps are nice but have a rocky shoreline and the dock was unusable.

Excellen place t spend quiet time by the lake! Such a beautiful setting in the east Texas Piney Woods! Our site was waterside so I only had to walk 15 feet to fish! the only downside was the love bug swarming that coated our rig in bug goo on the drive. I have a video of this park on my YouTube... I love this campgound!

On our way home from Crystal Beach, we went online and rented a space for the night. I WISH that I had time to stay longer because it was so beautiful. You just have to have a case of bug spray to fend off the mosquitoes and bugs. They were doing some underground electrical but it was so peaceful. We will definitely be back.
