Standing Stone State Park Campground

Nice little park with some neat things to see and do.  Staff was friendly and helpful.  The campground was well kept.  Be mindful
Of the notice on the website about entering the park via Hwy 52.  That’s a legit warning.  Thankfully we were aware of that because our GPS tried to take us that way.  As mentioned before, it is a small park.  Although our campsite was listed as 42 foot in length our TT is 32 feet), my very experienced in driving a trailer husband had to take several attempts to back in due to trees closely lining the road and drop offs on the side of the road.  The park employee explained to us that he has mentioned the issue to his supervisor but he is not allowed to remove the trees that block path for backing up.  He says most people just “drive over the timbers” where the drive way is.  We are rule followers and my husband is meticulous as well, so he’d never do that!  The site was very unlevel as well.  It was list to have a “slight” grade and I’d beg to differ on that.  We were backed up to overhang the site and maxed out our tongue jack and was barely able to get level.  All in all, it was a great park and trip, but it’s definitely not made for bigger travel trailers or RVs, and even though it lists it will fit, it might be nearly impossible to make that happen in some situations.

Great Park

**STANDING STONE STATE RUSTIC PARK** is another park worth the drive. Standing Stone

Tn 52 takes you through picturesque farmland and into Clay County. You are in the country now, Folk Medicine fairs, tractor pulls and demo derbys are prevalent.

Celina and Overton are the nearby towns and Broadway Antiques to right (Tn 52) looked interesting.

A basic campsite with 35 sites, nice and small and quiet. The bathroom is clean and maintained.

Love the RUSTIC ones!

Standing Stone was full of large, beautiful trees. Super secluded feeling camp sites. Had a pool, volleyball courts, short hikes, and soccer fields. The bathrooms were super clean. We’ve been twice and LOVE it.

This site has some really nice cabins. You can drive right up to the cabin and park. You will have full amenities and lots of room, depending on which cabin you choose. There are big lodging cabins for large groups. There are great trails all around the lake, dam, and old historic sites. Generally very well kept. Most notable part of the campsite is the staff. They are sooooo friendly and knowledgeable. Great to talk to and helpful all the time. 

Great site for families

Standing Stone is a great place to camp. The park has spacious campsites, a beautiful lake, and lots of great hiking trails. I would definitely go back.

Great camping experience 

This this campsite offers everything you need for a great camping experience. Out tent camping was complete with electricity and a short walk to the bathhouse. It also offered a fire pit and picnic table and lots of shade. You can rent a small Jon Boat for $50 a day and they also offer small bundles of firewood for $5\. We fished on Kelly Lake and caught about six fish that were keepers.

Lots of history

Some friends and I camped at Standing Stone during the 2017 Solar Eclipse. The state parks in Tennessee all hosted special programs for the event, and Standing Stone park rangers invited everyone to row out on the lake to watch this magnificent phenomenon. They provided boats and life jackets for everyone who registered and made sure everyone made it out on the water in time. The park also provided everyone with takeaway bags that included eclipse glasses and commemorative swag.

The campground and facilities included water and electric hookups as well as bathrooms with showers. Dogs are allowed as are camp vehicles. 

The park has lots of great hiking trails, a playground, and a pool with concessions.

At the end of our trip, my car battery died and we called the park office. Within minutes, a park ranger arrived to jump me off. I can't say enough good things about this park.

Wonderful Eclipse Weekend

Clean campground with plenty of recreation for the kids. Everything is spread out so be prepared to walk or take a short drive. 

Nice little campground 

Standing stone is a small campground that sits in a wooded area surrounded by green rolling hills and farmland. Sites on the outer edges of the loop give a good deal of privacy as they back up to the woods. Sites on the inner portion of the loop leave you more exposed to other campers.

  

There are some small hiking trails accessible right from the campground, but for more extensive hiking, you'll need to bike or drive to the trailheads; these are definitely worthwhile. They meander among the hills, have lots of creek crossings, and were quiet -- pretty much empty! IF you're interested in gravel bike riding, there are LOTS of gravel roads to ride close to the park. In terms of water activities, there's a small pond right inside the park, but for a real paddling or boating experience, Dale Hollow Lake is the place to go and less than ten minutes away by car.

  

Bottom line: If you're looking for a smaller campground with private, wooded sites, and want some hiking and gravel biking, come here and grab a site that backs up to the woods. If you're looking for direct access to water sports, you'll probably want to head over to Dale Hollow.

We stayed here as a home base for visiting family in June. 

There is little to no cell service in the park. You’re about 10-15 minutes from the grocery store. 

The site (7) was spacious (we had a teardrop, shower/changing tent, ground tent, and rooftop tent). Did not have any issues with electric the whole time we were there. 

Bathrooms were cleaned and stocked regularly. Staff was super friendly. We rented kayaks to take out on the lake. The rental price was reasonable and the lake was spectacular. There is even a kayak launch under the dock. The playground was great. The creek under the dam was awesome for wading, just look out for snakes. 

We didn’t get to hike as we were doing other things but the neighbors told us the trails were well maintained with gorgeous views. The park is huge and would take awhile to fully explore. 

The south entrance is a single lane bridge with a sharp turn so longer rigs need to come in on the north end. 

Excellent week

We spent two nights here in late March. We ended up being unlucky and having 7 inches of rain while we were there. Fortunately, it came in waves and mostly rained overnight. The park is very nice. The campground is pretty nice. It looks like the cabins are the main draw of this park. 

Pros: It's beautiful, quiet, and has a sweet dam. 

Cons: You have to drive within the park to get anywhere, the spots are hard as heck to back into, and the is 0 cell reception. I repeat, 0 CELL PHONE RECEPTION. That's not that big of a deal but we didn't expect it and it complicated things slightly for us. 

All in all, we loved It and will probably go back

Quiet and relaxing

Spent a partly rainy weekend at this park. They have so many things to do but we just enjoyed watching our son play and enjoy the playground and sandbox by the dam with another child. It was a peaceful campground probably because of the rain but it but it was quiet and nice. The sites are definitely not level but some adjustments and it's all good.

Best State Park yet.

Super clean facilities with multiple activities like boat rentals, hiking, ping pong, tennis in a scenic state park. Friendly staff!
