Badlands Hotel & Campground

Nothing special about the campsites here (not very spread out and just off the main road), but they provide a good view of the badlands and it’s very close to the park itself. 

Main problem was that, given the amount of storms that roll through in the summer, you’d hope the campgrounds were a little raised. I picked the highest spot I could and the tent still flooded a bit during a heavy storm that night. When I got up the next morning, other spots were in much worse condition, though. Basically ponds everywhere and the one couple a few sites down from me had to move in the middle of the night because the flooding got so bad. May have been a particularly bad storm, but the lady said that there are a lot of big storms that roll through at that time of year (mid August)

(Make sure your tent is durable in the wind and staked down really well because if a t-storm does roll through, the winds can exceed 50mph easily. It was a good test for my tent and I was lucky that it survived.)

The owner was really nice though and let me come back the next afternoon to shower after hiking in the Badlands all morning (despite not staying that night). 

Solid and just outside Badlands NP

[Badlands Interior Campground](http://www.badlandsinteriorcampground.com/) is located one mile south of Badlands National Park, and includes plenty of clean, level RV and tent sites, as well as teepees, camper cabins, and a motel. The owners were a delight to talk to, which we did every morning, and very knowledgeable about the area.

The RV sites include both electric and full hook-up, which is a step above the sites available inside the national park. There are community bathrooms that are small and feel a bit older, and only two showers are located in each. On a busy summer day, those could feel quite crowded. The playground is small and dated, but the unique merry-go-round (standing version) captivated our sons for a few hours.

The sites are not very shaded, especially the tent sites. This was not a concern for us since we visited in early spring, but a mid-summer day in the 100’s might be a bit unbearable. But in lieu of the trees, visitors get to see awesome views of the Badlands from almost every site! There are picnic tables at every campsite, some have sun overhangs, which would be outstanding to have in the summer. Each site also boasts an above-ground campfire ring, which is small, but a welcome feature as the campgrounds inside the park do not allow open fires (fire dangers here stay high most of the year).

The owners keep the facility in great shape, keeping the grass short to avoid encounters with rattle snakes, and the garbage disposal areas free from larger critters. When we arrived the day before their official 2017 opening, the grounds were in great shape and they appeared ready to roll and welcome travelers at any time.

Great Trip

One of my favorite national parks. Has so much to offer and beautiful viewpoints throughout. Easy hiking and mildly busy during the summer!

Beautiful

Be prepared for any type of weather if you go before May. We got a windstorm, rainstorm, and snowstorm all in a 24 hour period. It was worth every minute though. It is at the start of the badlands and in the morning the sun rises and opens up the most spectacular views! At night the stars are stunning to look at (when it’s clear). We woke up one morning just before sunrise and drove to one of the higher parts of camp to watch the sunrise, simply amazing! Early morning was also the best time to see wildlife too! I had heard it wasn’t uncommon for campers to wake up with bison or deer lumbering around their tents, we didn’t see that but it sounds like a great experience. Beware of snakes! Lots of places for them to hide. The facilities at the campground were good, just bathrooms hat we could find.

Badlands, the first campground you see. 

Great views of park, far enough away from your neighbor. Each site had a bench and a cover, the tents sat in a grass area, not gravel or sand. Great price for the night. Large enough to fit 4 tents.

Great views

This is a minimalist campground. Know that coming in. Not a lot of trees but nice bathrooms and shower houses. Went over mothers day weekend and it was raining. The plan was to backpack but I opted for the campground not knowing what Mother Nature was going to throw at me. Opted to use my hamock to stay off the wet ground. Turned the picnic shelter into a covered hammock set up. Great little restaurant where I treated myself to a mother’s day Indian taco and bottle of adventurer wine!

Big sites

A pretty minimal campground but they had the essentials. I loved that it was close to hiking trails and the views were amazing.

This campground was great - it was fairly easy to get to (in an RAV4) and in the park which I liked a lot. They had rangers come and do some demonstrations which was fun. Only downsides were a lot of other campers and that morning heat.

Great amenities. Not officially inside the park but very very close. Great views and great staff

Great site near visitors center 

Nice and clean campground, everyone friendly.  Would give 5 stars, just a little crowded for my taste.

Worth the drive

We were luckily able to get the last spot as a walk-in on the 4th of July.
Spots were pretty close together, which is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, but very nice people in the campground. 
Full hookup was great. Nice location.
Trails at the back of the property were perfect for a nice morning walk with our pup where she was allowed to run off leash. She would give it 5 stars! 
We didn’t use the pool but it looked clean. 
Showers were clean with plenty of hot water. 

Would definitely stay again if ever back in the area. 

Friendly and Clean!

The campground has an amazing view of the badlands and is only a mile outside of the National Park. The bathrooms/showers were small but kept clean and nice. Sites were a little tight and fire rings were very small, however for a night or 2 it is a very nice campground. Has a pool, playground, and small store also.

Very Nice

Very convenient location to explore the Badlands and the trails of the Badlands. Marvel at the wildlife. You have the opportunity to see bighorn sheep, bison, prairie dogs and all the other great things nature has to offer. Take advantage of this campground to be your base camp!

You’re here because it’s the Badlands man

There aren’t many options close to Badlands NP, and this is the closest. 

Beware: the wind was WICKED and there was a sudden thunderstorm with hail that had us hiding out in our car for 90 minutes. Our tent miraculously survived (Big Agnes Blacktail 2), but several others’ tents were basically destroyed. 

Pros: close to the park and views of Badlands are beautiful. 

Cons: mostly caters to RVs, so can be noisy. If you have a tent, make sure it’s sturdy!

Fine place to rest your head

Convenient location if your checking out the badlands. Everything you need is here for you. We were in a TT. Electric, water, sewer hookups in fine working order. Picnic table good too. 

Convenience at its best!

We didn’t have a reservation and pulled in and the person behind the front desk was easy and quick to work with and gave us a primo spot! 

We were towards the end of the campground and had some nice views of the badlands, especially when the sun set. 

Spots are fairly close together and it did fill up more towards the sun setting as people were finishing their travels through the badlands. It was fairly quiet all night. No tree coverage really and it gets really windy sometimes so the person behind the desk told us to not put our awnings out. Fires are only allowed when told because of how windy it can get

They have a nice little 1/4 mile loop through a grassy area near the back of the campground

Small campground. Close proximity. But beautiful views. Very nice owners. Everything you need. Primitive site. Water and electric only sites. Full hookup sites. Neat and clean. Good Sam and AAA campground gets you 10% off. Also receive military discount. Has laundry on site. $2 wash and $1 dry. Very affordable. 1 mile from the entrance to Badlands NP. Great place. Beautiful area of SD. 

Great views!

This is a really nice campground inside Badlands.  We arrived late and left early, but I would've been happy to stay there longer.  We weren't stacked on top of other people and it was well priced for having a sewer hookup at our site.  Showers weren't the cleanest, but not the worst I've seen, and that fact was eclipsed by being in such a great location.

Great campground about as close as you can get

The grounds were clean and as two girl in their early 20s we felt very safe camping here by ourselves. The spaces were very close together but enough apart that we didn’t feel crowded. The sky at night was unbelievable and the people in the office were extremely helpful and kind to us. There was also a fire pit which was nice and wood available for us

Very convenient  

The location is right outside of the national park, and is a motel / campground. You could get a room, RV or tent site. We reserved a tent site and picked once we arrived. The staff was friendly and they do have a store with ice / wood / etc if needed. They also had a breakfast option.

The tent sites are just on a field of grass. They are right next to one another without any separation so proximity to neighbors is very close. However, the view was great as you could see the badlands.

The bathrooms and showers were rough, and we refrained from using them. Not very well maintained or cleaned often it seems. Also, bugs. Especially at night when the beatles come out.

For RV users, looks like they had full hookups but unsure of the amps. Probably the usual 50.

Overall we wouldn’t mind coming back!

Great location, but other things could be improved.

Pulled in kind of late without a reservation and the guy in the office was super helpful.  Everyone seemed friendly and happy to be there.  Very close to the scenic loop within the Badlands.  You can get a really good hot breakfast and all you can eat pancakes and coffee for about $8 right at the campground.  They also sell single beers &amp; wine in the camp store, which was convenient.  The sunset was amazing!

Nice little campground!

This place was awesome, so close to The Badlands and a fun jumping off point. Facilities were maintained well and had a small town vibe. I do have to say we had ticks while we were there (which I had never had before) so watch out for your pups!!

Super Great Spot! Watch for ticks

Only a mile from the National Park with full hook ups (which we enjoyed with the 113 degree weather). Typical pull through (kinda pack you in spaces) but if you aren’t spending much time at the park then it’s all good. Laundry and showers which was nice. They have an above ground pool (that we didn’t use) and a small store and restaurant that serves a limited breakfast. A great spot for exploring. Definitely do the astronomy ranger talk at the amphitheater if your here! Every night at 9pm

Great for exploring Badlands

Stayed here during our visit for the Badlands. Friendly staff that was very helpful. Clean restrooms and store has basic necessities should you need them. Pretty good view of the Bandlands from the campground. I believe they sell breakfast and lunch there at the store. There’s a small grocery store just down the road that carries a variety of food choices. Will be staying here next trip.!!!

Great campground 

We liked: tent sites on the outskirts, trail / dog-hiking area, proximity to Badlands. Showers and price were ok. To earn 5 stars it needs more seclusion and trees for tent sites. Generally we camp dispersed or in forest campgrounds, avoiding RV parks, so 4 stars is actually pretty good from us for an RV park.

Great view of Badlands, nicely spaced spots, wifi ok but need more bathrooms. They were clean at 4 pm but by 6pm one toilet stopped up leaving 2 for a lot of people. Wasps  and bugs in women's bathroom a real problem.  Showers very small and tired looking. Store and restaurant attached to campground nice bonus. 

Beautiful location with hardworking employees but desperately need more newer bathrooms!

This campsite was really cool! It was far enough from the noise of the park and felt pretty isolated. Beautiful views and it was cool to see bison wandering through the campsite. It was pretty windy , so bring lots of stakes and tie outs for your tent!

Sites are long and level. The water spout is located in a weird spot, be sure to have a water hose. Bathrooms and showers are out dated and dirty. Pool was not clean, I guess it was from all the dust in the air.

Close to Badlands NP

Perfect location for visiting Badlands National Park. Jussstttt outside the park entrance and the Ben Reifel visitor center. Could not ask for a better location. The campground is a no frills, perfectly adequate base for exploring the area. 30 amp (some sites have 50) and water with a dump station. The staff is super friendly and there is a small store and cafe. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Sites are gravel and pretty level. Can’t beat it for $38/night! We had a spot at cedar pass for one night and extended here because it wasn’t worth moving (see pic of how close they are to one another) and CP doesn’t have water hookups.

The views are spectacular from the campground. Great  spot for sunrises, sunsets and stargazing. 

Perfect proximity

In my opinion the overall rating of 4 is a bit generous. The sites are extremely small and dense, with less than 10 feet of grass separating the sites. There is no privacy. The property is well maintained but it is old and a bit rundown. The electric and water hookups are shared between two sites. The cabins are scary. The bathrooms grade C. It is conveniently located at the southern end of the 240 Badlands loop with great access to the lookouts and trails in the Badlands. It’s a five minute drive to one of the visitor centers of Badlands NP.

Great Location But Very Average

Called the day of and the gave us a spot. Nice pull through sites right outside of The Badlands. Staff was very nice as well and told us places to check out. Saw a bunch of wild life including Bison Prairie dogs, rams, and deer. I would recommend this campsite. 

Great Place 

The view of the badlands was everything for me. The staff was friendly and helpful. The site was large enough for me and my family of 4, the site was level for our tent. There is nothing negative that I can say about this place I loved every minute of it that I was there. I would recommend it to anyone. 

AWESOME 

We stayed in a tent for 4 nights, clean bathrooms / showers. 
Owner was very nice and wonderful to talk to. View was amazing. Camp ground was quite and well maintained. They also have hotel rooms… so our friend ended up with food poisoning and she was able to go book a room. 
Pool was lots of fun for the kids, very clean. 
Laundry was easy to access. 
We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

The campground was great and super close to the Badlands park entrance. The owners were very nice and helpful. Great hookups for our RV-on a nice level ground, picnic table for eating outdoors, and best of all dog friendly! The bathrooms and showers were clean and close by. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool, but I’m sure it would be great on a warm day. The views are amazing from the campground! 
Love that it is military friendly and got an added discount. 

Badlands campground

We stayed at the Badlands Interior Campground and Motel for three nights while visiting Badlands National Park.  We were supposed to stay in the national park campground, but they had overbooked and we were out of luck, as were most other campers with reservations that day.  Fortunately, the Badlands Interior campground is just two miles down the road from the national park campground. They offer full hookups for the same price as a lessor site at the park campground.  

We found the Badlands Interior Campground to be enjoyable and convenient. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. The campground is reasonably large. We had no problems getting a spot here. Sites are gravel for the RV, very level, and reasonably well maintained. All RV sites are pull through. Hookups are in good condition. You may have to run your water hose under your RV.  Each site has a grassy area with a table and fire pit. The grassy areas were a little narrow, causing your neighbor to be a little close.  Staff was very friendly and helpful. There are tent sites available.

There was a pool that we observed being used daily. There is a meadow with hiking trails at the campground. There are showers, laundry and a campground store.  Breakfast is also available.

The campground is conveniently located just two miles from the national park. It has great views of the national park. There is almost no noise other than your neighbors.

We had 4 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot performed very well. The wifi offered at the campground is the best we have encountered.  My wife was able to play her xbox games in the evening.

We found this to be a great place to stay.  We will stay again when traveling this way.

Much better than the nearby national park campground

Very tight sites.  Lots of outdated amenities.  The view, however, is amazing.  

The price reflects the view

Good wifi, little store. Tent site. Hot showers, restaurant serves breakfast.   Fire rings. Beautiful place overlooking bad lands. Friendly staff, quiet, and comfortable.

We pulled in after a last minute decision to drive to the Badlands on a holiday weekend. They had one site left with electric hook ups. Lucky for us, our camper is small so we fit into the site. It was an end site with a view of the Badlands!

The guy who checked us in was extremely nice! The facilities were great and the location to the Badlands can’t be beat for being outside of the park.

Bonus: They had a swimming pool and also a small cafe that served breakfast. We did not eat, but glad the option was there.  

Last minute stay

Great camping. We picked a tent spot. Showers are perfect. 4ply!!! We could have fires. Wood sold here. Has a nice office area.

We were planning to stay at the campground inside the Badlands. Lucky for us they were full! This campground was great! Tent site near the road but hardly any traffic out here. The views of the park and the sky were amazing! Fire allowed here so that was a plus over the NP campground! There is a pool here but we didn’t use. Newer shower house with 4 individual bathrooms was nice. Plenty of hot water. RV spots look a little close and some of the inside spots looked like they were only rock as opposed to grass. They also have a breakfast menu which we decided to go with instead of trying to make breakfast after tearing down camp. Delicious and reasonably priced. Overall, we were glad we found it! Would definitely stay here again!
