Camping Information: Each site, excluding the designated tent sites, has water and electrical hookups and is convenient to hot showers and restrooms. Some sites have sewer hookups. All sites have complimentary wi-fi access. Several sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, others up to 30 feet.

While tent campers may use the sites with water and electricity, the park also offers a designated walk-in tent site area which includes tent pads and central water.

Discounted rates may be available for seasons of lower demand.

Huntington Beach State Park is a popular destination for beautiful beaches and diverse wildlife. The park features three miles of pristine coastline, with soft sand dunes and clear blue waters perfect for swimming, sunbathing and fishing. The area is also home to alligators, loggerhead turtles and a wide range of bird species.
Huntington Beach State Park is known for an abundance of hiking and biking trails, as well as kayaking, paddleboarding and bird watching. Visitors can also take a guided tour of the park's historic sites or attend one of the park's many educational programs, including nature walks and astronomy talks.

Huntington Beach State Park Campground

Don’t confuse this campground with Hunting Island (many people do). Although expensive, the sites here are very generous in size. Sites on the outside of the loop have more privacy (sites 1-33 have trees behind them for even more privacy). 

  

The restrooms and showers are clean. 

  

There are multiple access points to a very walkable or runnable beach. No bike rentals on-site but there is a local bike shop that will deliver to your site. Tours of Atalaya available plus other programs (although we didn’t take advantage of these). There is a large store with many souvenirs along with general necessities. If you order three or more bundles of firewood, they will deliver to your site. 

  

It would have been nice to have a utility sink to wash dishes in as there are in other state parks. Also, like all other South Carolina state parks, alcohol is prohibited.

Nice large sites close to the beach

I grew up in Myrtle Beach and camped here in the primitive camping on many occasions.  I've done this with groups and also alone. It is absolutely spectacular. During the off-season you'll have the place to yourself. During the summer months, it's busy during the day but quiet at night. 

Tips-
Take a bike and go out riding late at night. The alligators will lay on the road at night and you can ride right by them.
Once night falls, take your sleeping mat or cot down to the beach and sleep there.
Be sure to visit the castle during the day.

I've also camped out in the normal tent sites with family. Still a pretty awesome spot to stay, but not as secluded as the primitive camping.

Primitive Camping at Its Best!

Went during off season and it was great! Loved being so close to the beach and to the hustle and bustle of the town! My dog was also welcomed with open arms which I really appreciated! We got to see the turtles meander to the sea in the morning, the sites were pretty spacious and like I said- we had the place to ourselves!

Huntington Beach SP is a wonderful campground in Murrells Inlet, SC. The nature center at this park recently was struck by lightning and all was lost. They are in the process of recovering from that but I would highly recommend doing what you can to visit this SP. Very nice campsites, conveniently located minutes from the ocean! Lots of birds and other wildlife all around too. Clean, friendly and welcoming. Great hiking as well! 

We Love this Place!

Best beach camping I've had! Lots of shade at the walk-in tent sites. The sites are secluded with bear/animal proof food storage at each site. Of course raccoons are about everywhere, but the nature is so friendly at this campground. A little birdy built a nest in our beach towels one night. The park rangers were helpful (for that situation) so that's cool. We camped during a tropical depression with no flooding. 8 straight hours of hard rain. Great great park. 

Huntington Beach State Park 

I grew up near here, and Huntington Beach was our go to spot for primitive camping and a place to escape the tourists.

You can do full hook up or primitive camping here. I've done both with church groups, the family, and solo.

This is a pretty awesome place with no shortage of things to do...

*   a castle to explore
*   the beach
*   a walk to the fishing jettys
*   go flounder gigging
*   fishing
*   crabbing
*   alligator watching
*   biking
*   and more

And, I saved the best for last...if you go out walking late at night, you can catch the big gators warming themselves on the road by moonlight. Just don't get too close. They're pretty fast.

The Best in Beach Camping!

Stayed in the primitive tent area. Be sure to bring your bug spray in the summer. Nice facilities,ample privacy, very nice staff and park store. The castle ghost tour is a lot of fun. Excellent beach that was not very crowded. We had a close encounter with an alligator ,that was very neat. Plenty to do inside the park so no need to leave and fight the terrible traffic just outside that area. Would definitely stay here again.

Very sizable campground with great beach access, trails and marsh area. Bring your bikes to truly enjoy the environment.

Dog friendly beach

This campground has great staff, is clean, has history and beautiful! It’s right on the beach and private. Raccoons are the only problem at night

Clean, well organized and right on the beach

There is so much to do in this park and in the Murrell's Inlet area. Also, the beach is gorgeous! We had a great time riding bikes over to the causeway and watching the alligators cross the road to feed at low tide and all of the birds wading around - even a roseate spoonbill. It was incredible! Also, there are lots of bars, restaurants and stores nearby that are on the water. We were in the newer South Campground and all of the facilities were really nice. However, the sites were a little close together and there aren't many trees on this side of the campground. The only downside was the poor internet. We had a hard time getting anything to work! We couldn't even take calls from inside our RV. We hear the other side of the park has a little better service. Still a great week at the beach with lots to offer in the area and the park.

Lots of activities in the park and nearby!

There are only 6 tent sites at this RV friendly park. We stayed in site 4 and had a cut through to the beach. Site 2 also could access the shortcut, but other sites had a slightly farther walk. Going before the bugs come out is a must. Potable water on site and a short walk to bath houses. 
Beach is absolutely breathtaking and not crowded. 

We also went on a night hike to the beach and saw so many stars! 

No long hiking trails to speak of, but a few short walks through forest and an interpretive trail are available. 

Tent sites are close together. There is little visual or auditory privacy. 

Raccoons are abundant and the park has provided lockers for all food. We didn’t have any problems, but neighbors who didn’t store food properly did. 

Camp site is situated on a pad that I assume is set up that way for flooding, but it made the campsite feel cramped, even though there were 2-4 feet of cleared space around the raised pad before the tree line. 




Short walk through Maritime forest to beautiful beach 

5$ entry fee per adult, however it kinda guarantees you a great spot on the beach. Plenty of room for parking. Campsites close to the beach. Plenty of even sites and hookups. 

Worth the money 

The primitive group campsites have been recently improved with a new access trail (crushed gravel), new posts dividing each campsite and new food boxes. The group camping is located near the boardwalk access to the beach. Camp in the shade of the woods while listening to the ocean waves.

Great Group Camping 

Literally by the beach. Clean, friendly staff, near great low country restaurants. The old Atalaya home site is there to tour.  Brookgreen Gardens is across the Highway.

One of my favs in South Csrolina 

Huntington Beach State Park is beautiful and basically being across the road from Brookgreen Gardens just adds to the beauty.  Have had the opportunity to camp here twice.  Not much privacy between sites but the park is nice.  The birding and wildlife are amazing, especially when you consider how close you are to the rambunctiousness of Myrtle Beach.  Needs to be on your list.

Beautiful

This is a nice park however only one side has full hookup. This park is predominantly just for outdoors people; walking on trails, lounging on the beach, etc.

Nice but lacking amenities

Huntington Beach State Park South Carolina. Stayed a week. Great campground. Trails, easy access to the most amazing beach. The nicest washroom facilities and laundry. January was a little early for us, temperature wise. We would probably return in Feb or March but maybe it is too busy then?

This park is huge. We are in the northern camping area Lot 160. Platform is cement so the camper is Level. Our site has a built-in black and grey water private dump station.

The park has nature trails to walk and bike.There is a causeway with a lot of marsh birds and several crocodiles. We went there after  tropical storm and a lot of crocs were dry active.

Our site was a 1 minute walk to the shore. The beach was clean but barely occupied due to social distancing. It was part of a 60 mile stretch of beach.

The facilities, were pretty clean and hardly used when I was there.

There was so much to do in the area, including kayaking,  that I’ll have to come back for more.

When we left very early (4:30 am) the park entrance was padlocked. Luckily a ranger came out pretty quickly to help with the padlock.

This park is the best. Great campground, easy beach access, wonderful area, great for photography, wonderful staff. We camp here as often as possible. Fills fast, so make reservations well in advance. And a castle!

Our most favorite beach camping

Just got back from another long weekend camping at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrel’s Inlet, SC. This is one of our favorite campgrounds. We were in Site 40 this weekend. 30 amp electric and water, no sewer. Sites are level, clean, spaced out and a short walk to the beach. Close to Myrtle Beach attractions if you interested, but quiet and relaxing. Many nature trails and tons of beach for walking. 

Another Amazing Weekend

Sweet spot near Myrtle Beach, SC yet far enough away from the overwhelming commercial properties, yet so many things to do!Beautiful Marsh walk to view birds and other critters at low tide (bring tons of bug spray in the summer), beautiful flat beach (great for walks), visit Atalaya Castle, the historical home on the property, then cross the highway to Brookgreen Gardens (spectacular Christmas lights display is a MUST see during the holiday season) to enjoy the sculptures and multitudes of plants. They have plenty of other amenities including RV hookups, beach shower facilities, ADA friendly beach access, picnic tables, playground, nature center. Palm trees galore! Great camping practically on the Beach

We camped here this weekend. Rain finally stopped and Sat and Sun were sunny and cool. We love this park to walk the beach, watch the birds and just relax. Sites are spread out and spacious. We had a full hookup site this weekend #86.

Always a great place to camp

Luckily this campsite is the closest one to where my mother in law lives bc this is a wonderful one!  Plenty to walk around and see, many campsites are dispersed.  There is a large playground for children, ample facilities and privacy (depending on where you choose), quick walk to the beach and so much nature.  Loved, loved, loved!!!!  You could bird watch, go for a run, a hike or go to the beach.  The people were super nice and the check in process was seamless.  They were following social distancing guidelines during covid.  We stayed in February and even though it was cold and rainy we had a blast.  We did have one beautiful day.  We stayed on a partial hook up site and I would definitely do that again.  The dump station was clean and easy to use.  The garbage area was organized and clean and close enough to the campsite without being too close to draw animals 100% gem. Will return!!!  Great with kids or without, it was quiet and I highly recommend.

Spent 2 nights here in our sprinter van with our pup in February. Nice, quiet and friendly campground. Loved all the trails within walking distance &amp; the trail access to the beach. It was cold for February but no snow:) Used the bathroom &amp; shower and they were very clean. Even saw dolphins from the beach! @vantrailsbeer

The best!

This is a terrific state park. Bathrooms and showers are plentiful and very clean. We stayed in Site 112. A nice short walk from the beach!

The park is less than 10 minutes drive to Murrells Inlet and Marsh Walk. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Great place to enjoy the South Carolina beaches

This was our first time taking the pop-up to the beach.  The campground was clean, quiet, and a quick walk to a beautiful beach.

Beautiful Beach 

We had an amazing time at Huntington Beach. Campsites are large (although not all are shaded). The beach is pristine and gorgeous. I loved hearing the waves as I was falling asleep. Try to get a site on the outside of the loop where there are more trees, and more privacy.The bath houses were adequate and easily accessible. 
The ghost tour at Atalaya is a must! Huntington Beach is close to Brookgreen Gardens, which we’ve heard is beautiful, but didn’t end up going there. It’s also close to Myrtle Beach, restaurants, shopping, etc. we will absolutely return! 

Absolutely Love this place!

Beautiful state park with access to Atalaya castle  and Brookegreen gardens, all in walking distance. Art festivals are held here too! Bike trails give you access to Pawleys Island, Litchfield,  and the shops along the way. The brackish water bridge uses a natural gate to change with tides and will typically be packed with alligators. Take the 1/2 mile walk to the jetty and do some fishing. The further you get from the parking area the better the shark teeth and fishing get. The camp store has some minimal items but make sure to bring meat tenderizer for the occasional jelly fish sting. The trails to the beach from the last 2 hike in tent sights are great, if you go on a full moon you may find some turtles- NO Flashlights!  Been here numerous times and it is always less crowded than Myrtle Beach State park. Make sure to check out the aquatic nature center too!

Great beach

Absolutely stunning park! The amount of bird/wildlife watching here is unbelievable! The north rv/tent loop is very spacious with an abundance of grass and trees, all sites have power &amp; water but only a few dozen with sewer. The south rv straight has full hook ups and concrete pads but are not as spacious as the north loop. Bath houses are clean and have been recently updated with fresh tile and fixtures. The beach itself is large and covered with pristine white sand, all beach access paths are well maintained and pretty in there own right. Highly recommend a visit to this park!!! Super convenient to everything but peacefully tucked away for your enjoyment. 🌅

Relaxing Stay!

This campground is spectacular. If you’re looking for a beach getaway, come here. Many of the sites are quite large (in comparison to the mega parks of myrtle beach) and shaded by trees. The campground does have wi-fi, however it’s not reliable throughout the park. By one bathhouse, they have put tables with outlets and I noticed a wifi router on the top of that bathhouse, so that much be a great place for reception. Speaking of bath houses, they were spectacular by the standards of state parks I’m used to. The paths to the beach are beautiful and rustic, though a little bit of a trek. The scenery is so lovely that I didn’t even mind, but I can see it getting old with little ones over the span of a week. The park itself offers many things to do, including trails, birdwatching, the historic Atalaya home (additional fee), and a playground. If that isn’t enough, across the street is Brookgreen Gardens, a stunning sculpture garden with a small zoo. 

My New Favorite Campground 

Well, even though I was there in the middle of December, I felt like I was on summer vacation at this state park. The campground is quite beautiful, with the campsites pretty well immersed in vegetation. There's a lot of diversity among sites, so I'm sure people have favorites. The atmosphere is festive but relaxed, with lots of families and groups of friends. I didn't even get to find half the cool places to explore, but there are marsh boardwalks, sandy beaches with sea turtles, a full-on gift shop, a nature center with aquariums and presentations, and a crazy estate that you can tour. It also happens to be quite expensive to camp there, so check the rates. Word to the wise - apparently it is so popular in the summertime that you need to make reservations a year in advance.

Vacation Vibe

We had a great experience at Huntington Beach State Park. We stayed in the south campground with full hookups and it was a game changer! No honey pot trips to the dump station made for an extraordinary camping trip at the beach! Beautiful campground with a short easy walk to the beach. We will definitely return. 

Excellent Experience

The wife, dog and I all stayed here and it was fantastic. Bathrooms were clean and campground was well kept. One of our new favorite campgrounds. Will definitely be staying again next time we are looking for a beach trip.
