People call it the “crown jewel” of the Oregon State Parks system, and once you visit, you know why. Silver Falls State Park is the kind of standout scenic treasure that puts Oregon firmly onto the national—and international—stage.

 Camping: The main Silver Falls campground has tent sites, RV spots and cabins. Bring your horse and stay in the horse campground. If you need an area for many people, the park also has group tent and RV camps, and the historic Youth Camp for up to 250 campers. 

 Waterfalls: Where else can you walk behind a waterfall? Check out the famous South Falls and see what a 177-foot curtain of water looks like from behind. It’s part of the Trail of Ten Falls, a spectacular, nationally recognized hiking trail that weaves through a dense forested landscape. The trail passes a series of breathtaking waterfalls along a rocky canyon, and descends to a winding creek at the forest floor. This 7.2 mile loop is considered to be a moderate hike, with an overall elevation change of 800 feet. Several connecting trails with separate access points make shorter routes. For everyone’s safety— absolutely no pets allowed on the Canyon Trail. Pets on leash are allowed on all other trails.

 Boots, bikes, paws, hooves: The park offers more than 35 miles of backcountry trails for mountain biking, hiking or horseback riding (see guided ride info below). Bears and cougars live in the more remote park areas.

 Daytime activities: The South Falls Day-use area has spacious lawns, barbecue stands, picnic shelters, tables, a playground, horseshoe pits, an off lead area for dogs, and a charming creek. Ever since the opening day in 1933, visitors have been using these grounds for potlucks, family reunions and weddings.

 The Silver Falls Lodge and Conference Center offers a variety of amenities. Relax and enjoy comfortable lodging within the wooded setting, or feast at the many catered specialty events. Silver Falls State Park Campground

This is a nice campground. We stayed 1 night and hiked to see 8 falls. Most of the hikes are easy but some are long. The falls were amazing. Check in was at 4 pm which is pretty late especially when you consider they want you to check out at 1. They seem to be short on staff and the guard we spoke to seemed annoyed with us. When we asked if they had availability for us to stay another night she said “no your site is reserved for another party”. We’re like ok it’s not that important for us to discuss options. Thanks and have a nice day. Maybe it’s the fact that the sun didn’t shine for a few days. Who knows? But we did meet lots of friendly hikers on our walks to the falls. 

Falls galore

This is a very family friendly camp ground, so watch out for all the RVs and kids on bikes. But once you are out on the trail it gets peaceful and picturesque.

So many hikes, so little time.

Overnight trip in early summer.
Beautiful hiking, waterfalls and delightful views.  Hiking trails are easy and accessible to most levels of use.
Unfortunately it is very busy all year round due to the proximity to Portland.   Good camping neighbors but not a lot of quiet or solitude.
I would recommend it for folks who want a quick jaunt with good views who don't want to face the traffic in the gorge.

Beautiful hiking, but very busy

We tent camped two nights at Silver Falls. Tree lined campgrounds were well maintained. Sites are close together and the grounds are very social (which we like). Ranger led evening program was educational and interactive. The highlight of the trip was the 8+ mile hike to explore 10 different waterfalls. The hike was easy enough for our seven year old to complete, but tough enough to wear us out. We very much enjoyed a swim with other families  in one of the final falls. The drive from Portland was gorgeous! It was nice to get a glimpse of rural Oregon. 

Fun Inland Waterfalls

This park is amazing! Glorious trails, waterfalls. Check out the little store down the road. They have live music Friday nights and beer and ice cream are great after a long hike. We stayed at the campground our first visit which has zero privacy. I recommend the cabins at the conference center.

Lovely park! Subpar campground

It was pretty busy, and the campsites were pretty close together..! I would recommend staying here for only a night just so you can do the entire 10 waterfall hike! The trails, and everything is maintained very very well. It is super clean! Everything is so lush, and beautiful though~

Busy!

Campground Review:  Hiking behind waterfalls... come on!  This place should be at least a National Monument but then again if it was it would not have free hot showers!!!  Electrical hook ups and water at your site.. stop spoiling us!  Right time of the day the trails can be virtually empty.  It also had an amazing recycling center in the campground.  Go mother earth.... incredible.
Gear Review:  Cotopaxi 18L bags are epic.  Very spacious and with a front zipper, inside pocket divider, they can store a good amount of stuff and still be organized.  The vacuum sealed water bottles will keep your drinks cold even in direct sunlight for hours!  Go Cotopaxi!

THE most beautiful park in Oregon that we've seen! Hiked for 5 hours!  BEWARE:  It's WET, so bring your wet weather gear, and good, sturdy hiking shoes for slippery terrain.  Saw all but the northern most two falls while hiking the trails. So many more to hike! Kids' play area inside Loop B, showers, and nature trails around the campground. RV dump at the horse camp turnoff. I'd try to reserve spots 9 or 12 (next to the playground and sunny spots) or 72 (next to the creek in the shade) next time!  We rate this one an 8.

A great family campground with a myriad of trails for all skill and comfort levels. I will note that many of the trails down around the falls are off limit to dogs which seemed a bit of a surprise to some folks out here; please check the online trail map before you go or be prepared to explore other areas of the park, there is still miles of fun for four leggers. If it is a summer month, assume there will be swarms of children riding their bikes through the loops from dawn to dusk, roving bands of ‘em.

The sites are very open, level and can easily accommodate multiple tents and gear. When the park is full there isn’t much sense of privacy at all as the sites are close together, but if you picked this place then privacy probably wasn’t your goal. My neighbor’s tent is probably 6 feet away right now. This trip all of the rangers have been very friendly and happy to answer questions.*Sidetrack... a friend stayed here once with their wife and was chided by the park ranger for having marital relations, in the middle of the act, in the middle of the night, sound travels easy here.

Restrooms and showers in “A” loop were updated recently, they are clean, regularly maintained and have 3 double plug outlets for use for charging those batteries etc. There is a playground in the RV loop in addition to there being one over by the swimming hole on the park side of things. The swimming area itself has almost no current (in low summer season) and is perfect for a lazy afternoon and tubes.

Came here with family so there was a variety of ages and everyone had a nice time. Plenty of wildlife here too, so watch your dog bowls, a Stellars Jay was using ours as his personal bathtub and eating trough. Rabbits in the morning by the bathrooms, all kinds of birds, garter snakes by the stream, anthills the size of babies, a deer family waltzing through at dusk and of course a menagerie of insanely cute chipmunks and tiny squirrels. At night the raccoon(s) will come through and take anything not nailed down, they aren’t fazed by humans, so best to just make sure everything is tucked in right before you retire.

Campground was one of the best I have been to. Great location to the falls and trailheads, super clean, and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely be going back this summer!

AMAZING!!!!

We stayed in the RV side in our trailer.  The sites have good side to side privacy.  If you are in good shape you can walk to the trail network to the waterfalls.  We only did the Maple Ridge loop, but if you were more motivated or in better shape there's lots more falls to see. Sites have power and water. The dumpsite is up the road 4 miles, our next destination has full hookups so we didn't bother. We lucked out because we stayed Sunday, Monday. But rumor has it this is Oregon's most popular state park and weekends fill up FAST. 

Amazing destination

This is an amazing spot year round. Our family has visited three times this year (Fall, Winter, and Summer). Perfect for daily adventures of hiking and waterfall viewing. During the summer and winter, they offer fun activities and events. 

We actually prefer the off season because it isn’t as crowded and the waterfalls have more water than they do in the summer.


Enjoy all year!

This beautiful location is about 30 minutes from any town and is my go to when I need a good hike in the Rim Trail or just a nice nature walk around the 10 Dalls Trail.

In recent years it has become very popular and the main falls area is over run with tourists at most points during the year.

Not the place to go if you are seeking to not see anyone, but once you pass the main falls loop near the lodge the heard things out the further you trek.

Most hiking trails are mild to moderate. Seeking more of a challenge? If you venture out to the rim trail or the K214 trail heads, then you will rarely see anyone; though be aware of cougars and I'd advise a bear bell. I've seen many tracks over the years up there ranging from Cubs to a large cat tracking a horse. Meow! You may meet horse riders on these trails as well.

All and all a beautiful local treasure that is a large enough park to hold many thousands of people and still feel like you are out in the woods enjoying nature.

Camp sites are available across the main road from the park. The main park area is for day use only.

Magnificent waterfalls. Well kept trails. Busy place.

Open year round. Our family loves Silver Falls State Park. I suggest visiting the park in a week day to avoid crowds. This is a popular spot for travelers and it can be hard to book campsites in advance. The falls loop is around 7 miles and can easily take a full day to see everything. Pack a picnic and enjoy the south falls area. Stargazing is a great activity in the meadow. They DO have a store, event center, and educational center on site for assistance. Friendly staff. Worth seeing. They have a great Christmas Festival that we volunteer at every year.

A must see for Oregon

Probably the easiest accessibility to the most awesome waterfalls per few square miles in Oregon. Ample Parking and many different falls and trails to choose from

Top Oregon Waterfall park

We thought we were going to end up in the middle of nowhere as we were driving out here, but once we got here it was great! We got the very last spot, as it is a popular place. There are bathrooms here, as well as the biggest ant hills I have ever seen.

Last minute I was able to reserve a campsite here this summer. The campground was not very big and our campsite was enclosed by bushes on either side which gave a sense of privacy. The bathrooms and showers were kept very clean and we had a water spout right at the end of our camp site. The campground was a short walk from many of the parks hikes. Unfortunately we could not take our dog to lots of the falls but we did the Ridgetrail and at least we were about to see 2 of them.

Oregon state parks have always been heads and tails above any other states we have visited parks in. It has been about 20 years since we were in Silver Falls and I would say they have only improved. This is one of the state parks where you can make reservations and it was a good thing we did as the campground was full when we arrived. The restrooms are very clean: hot water, air dryers, large mirror. There are showers but I didn't use them so can't comment on their condition. Some of the sites have shelters; snag one of these if you can because rain can come at any time in Oregon! Trails are extensive and well marked. Definitely recommend the Trail of Ten Falls, which can be done in two separate loops. The South Falls loop attracts more families with young children while we saw very few children on the north Falls loop.

Returning to a favorite!

No matter the time of year, Silver Falls State Park is an Oregon must visit!

We stayed at a rainy day at this state parks camp, it was a good choice though. The campsites are really well maintained, it has clean bathrooms with showers (!) You can get firewood there and sites are not to dense so you get some privacy.

The best part about the campsite is that it's located in the middle of the statepark, there are plenty of trailheads around. We did the whole trail of ten falls - about 10 miles, and we definitely recommend it.
The day-use area is also recommended. As it was raining the whole day, we really appreciated, that it was one of the rare places where we found covered grill area so we could prepare lunch here without getting wet.

Since we had a wedding to attend in Oregon, it gave me a chance to visit Silver Falls State Park. My first impression was how crowded the campground was during the middle of the week. The bath house was more than I expected, especially for a state park. I don’t know whether or not the other Oregon State Parks have modern bath house facilities like this one, but I was impressed. The campsite that I chose was flat and had plenty of shade, and the trees were huge. As a lover of all things natural, especially trees, this was great. It hadn’t rained in a while, so I couldn’t judge how well the site would drain, especially since there were no raised tent pads. The main attraction for this large state park is obviously centered on waterfalls and trails. I didn’t get a chance to explore all of them, but the ones I did get to see were impressive. South Falls is a short hike, and you can walk behind it. From the bridge facing the waterfall, it looks like the Garden of Eden. You can also walk to the top of the waterfall. North Falls also is a short hike. Although it is not as high as South Falls, it is one that is worth the hike. The main campground areas were booked, but the group camping area had quite a few sites available the first day we were there. However, the next day, the group camping area was also filling up since it was getting closer to the weekend. Overall, I was impressed with this campground. Unfortunately, I probably will not get to visit it again for quite a while since I live 2,500 miles away. With that said, I do highly recommend this state park and campground.

Beautiful Campground with Huge Trees and Lots of Waterfalls

This is one of my favorite places to go in Oregon (there are many). The park has about 120 sites, it is ready for RV, Tents, Horses, Boats about anything you could want.

Dogs are welcome, however, some trails (like the Ten Falls) are not allowed.  Please pick up after your pet and keep them on a leash!

If you get a chance, do the Trail of Ten Falls, it is a spectacular, nationally recognized hiking trail that weaves through a densely forested landscape. The trail passes a series of breathtaking waterfalls along a rocky canyon and descends to a winding creek on the forest floor.

So much beauty so little time!

Silver Falls has a little bit of something for everyone. Waterfall views, beginner hikes, longer hikes, an interpretive center, a cafe, easy drives to wine country or a campy theme park. It stays nice and temperate here when the rest of the state heats up and is just a great destination. Since it's so close to home, we typically don't stay overnight, but if you're coming from further away, I would definitely recommend it. The park buildings are beautiful and you can tell that a lot of care goes into everything here.

Don't miss it

I went here for my BD a couple years ago.  We didn't camp here because my ex GF isn't into camping.  We stayed at the Oregon Garden.  This was my first time at both places.  As for Silver Falls, since this is The Dyrt, it is a very nice campground.  We were going to hike the upper fall loop but there was no parking.  She's not a big hiker either.  This was her second time.  What was supposed to be a 2 mile hike turned into a 7 mile Trail of Ten Falls.  She was a trooper and kept on going.  I think she was terrified but think she liked the scenery.

Hike the Falls

Silver falls is one of my most favorite parks to explore. Of course the trail of ten falls is amazing, but the smaller trails around the campground are great too. We played in the creek, picked salmon berries and huckleberries. They have great bathrooms, but the showers weren’t open this time due to COVID and neither was programs. There was a skunk in camp the 2 nights we were there. Thankfully no spraying, but it was kind of sketchy LOL. Gorgeous park as always.

Wow! Wonderful wooded campground with trails and creeks throughout. Let’s be honest though, you come here for the hiking! Waterfalls galore and these are some of the best I’ve seen. Both South and North falls you can walk behind. Amazing. 

Gem of Oregon State Parks

We stayed at site 73 which was semi private and close to the area where extra vehicles park. At this area was also access to the south falls trailhead. Which was nice for us to just walk from our campground to the falls. Heading towards the falls is a large area for picnicking and day use. The bathrooms at the campground were extremely clean and the showers were nice and warm. The sites are fairly close to one another. There is not a whole lot of privacy. But the campground was very quiet and calm being it was filled with campers. You can purchase firewood at the front of the campground for $5 through the kiosk. Since we visited the beginning of June we got temperatures ranging from 75-80F which felt not too bad in the woods. This campground is just 45 minutes from Abiqua falls which is where we hiked while staying here. This campground is really family friendly and easy access to hiking for the ten falls trail. The second night we stayed at site 53 (camper van) and it was much closer to the other sites. But it was also very close to the restroom which was great.

What a beautiful park and campground! The hiking is epic, campground is clean and has everything you could possibly need including clean bathrooms and showers, firewood, and water access. Can't wait to go back. 

Wonderful Place

Silver Falls is awesome to visit and the campground is great if you have the opporunity to stay for a day or two.

Beautifully forested and close to the waterfalls, the campground has all the features you could need.  Tent sites, rv sites, and cabins.  It's very popular and can sometimes be hard to find a reservation.

Because of its reputation and close proximity to Portland, Silver Falls gets a lot of visitors. Many of them are not experienced campers. So have a little patience with others if you decide to camp here.

  

It sure is pretty. The biggest downside is that dogs are not allowed on the main waterfall hike. But there is one beautiful falls--Upper North Falls--, a very short hike, where dogs can go.

Beautiful and busy

Ranger was super nice, campground is very clean even the bathrooms. Spots are pretty close together so you definitely hear your neighbors (we had a crying baby neighbo, not fun). Short walk to the creek and short drive to the main water fall hike 

Very clean campground 

The usual state park backdrop to park a car and pitch a tent. What this campground has going for it is the surrounding hiking trails, and its proximity to Silver Creek Falls. You have to drive from the campground to the actual waterfall hikes, but it's a great jumping-off point.

Oregon car camping at it's best

Standard campground with privacy surrounding the sites. We had a full hook up site and everything was great. The greater park is lovely and you can walk to the day use areas and other hikes from the camp ground but it adds on lots of time/miles. We had a dog so could only do the rim trail but that leads you up to the only swimmable falls in the park. Will for sure go back.   
  
The visitor center and day use area has great swimming and there is a concession stand as well.  Would frequent if I lived in the area.

Standard state campground with great access to an amazing park

Even though there were no signs about the specific campground, thankfully I bypassed the “closed”agent building and followed the signs to the campground. The host is very sweet and her voice calmed my nerves. The campground is well kept. You can purchase firewood from the host. The showers was ONG fantastic. The water got piping hot, just the way I like it! This is a busy area with many families. I had water and electrical hookups. I used my 110 volt cord. This is one of the best campgrounds I’ve stayed.

Big bang for the buck. Many trails, many waterfalls, well laid out so even though crowded you get to enjoy your space. Definite must see.

Must see

Great park! Waterfalls were raging after all the storms!! Downside is that dogs are not allowed on the majority of the infamous Ten Falls loop. 

Campsite had TONS of spots available when we were there (midweek during a storm) with no reservation needed. 

Sites were good (only downside is very little privacy). Paid $19 for  rent only site. Had electric/ water hook up sites too. Hot showers, clean bathrooms. Had picnic table &amp; decent space. Had good cell service here but not in other parts of the park so download maps before you leave the campsite! 

Great site & park

Went in Winter and it was cold, wet and had surprise snow! Nice open spots, cute playground - showers and flush toilets. Dumps ration is a couple miles away. Great access to water falls. 

Beautiful park with great hikes

Came in to the campground and was able to find our campsite quickly. 5 minutes after we had parked, a very nice ranger stopped by and greeted us; asked us a couple of questions about our reservation, checked us in, and shared information about the campground. We purchased firewood using the automated pay machine.  We visited the trail of ten falls starting at the South Falls Lodge, which is less than a 5 minute drive from the campus ground.  Great visit, super quiet campground; lots of trees; make sure to reserve your site well in advance; this site is usually full. Water and power on our site. Clean bathrooms and showers.

Rv sites were quite private for a state park. Loved that the campground was within walking distance of the Falls. Clean bathrooms, easy to use firewood and ice purchase and super friendly camp hosts

Beautiful campground

This campsite was spacious and a short 5-minute drive to the Trail of Ten Waterfalls hike. The park rangers are quite attentive and friendly. The bathrooms have outlets and are clean. They also have 3 showers, the shower head was interesting but gets the job done. Drivers must keep their cars on the driveways that are at each campsite but it was not an issue for us at all. Just a PSA. The only issue we encountered was raccoons. They didn't get into any of our stuff and were easily scared away, but even while talking by the fire at night, a couple of raccoons would join us. Harmless really. When we visited, there were a ton of families with children so it felt safe. We hiked the Trail of Ten Waterfalls but were told to do a loop for a bit of a shorter hike. (The full hike is about 8 miles, but the loop is about 6 miles where you get to see 7/10 waterfalls -- which are all so beautiful. We were told to do the hike in a clockwise direction. This allows hikers to go downstairs at the beginning of the trail instead of having to go up all of them towards the end of their long hike. I recommend stopping for a map of the trail to know which falls you are at. We enjoyed coffee, Italian soda, and huckleberry ice cream at the cafe next to the trailhead after our hike.

Safe and friendly

**General:** Two loops with a mix of electric and non-electric sites plus cabins. 

  

**Site Quality:** All sites have paved, level camper pads, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Reasonable separation/privacy between sites, although you will see and hear your neighbors. 

  

**Bath/Shower House:** Bathrooms have been updated since our last visit six years ago. Automatic flush toilets and sinks. Soap dispensers and air dryers. They were clean. Showers are individual stalls with a bench and hooks for toiletries. The only thing missing was a garbage receptacle and there were signs indicating you needed to take your garbage out. I can only guess that previous campers abused the bathroom garbage, thus taking away the convenience for everyone else! 

  

**Activities:** Highlight for us is the Trail of Ten Falls which, as the name suggests, takes you past ten waterfalls. The entire trail is just over seven miles but there are shorter loop options. The best access is from the day-use area but you can get there from the campground to add mileage. Pets are not allowed on this trail. There are paved bike trails and other backcountry trails that allow dogs and horses. 

  

Our first visit to this state park was in 1990, and we returned in 1997 and 2017. We have loved it every time, even when it rains, as it does almost every time we visit!
