Situated half way up the Oregon coast and three miles south of Florence on scenic Highway 101 is the second largest overnight camp in the state. There are two miles of sand dunes between the park and the ocean. Two natural freshwater lakes are within the park. Cleawox -- which is great for swimming -- and Woahink, which has a public boat ramp, is used for all water sports. Rent a canoe and explore the lake.

Approximately 45 full-hookup sites, more than 120 electrical sites with water, more than 185 tent sites with water nearby, 10 yurts (one pet-friendly), and six seasonal group tent camping areas.

Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park Campground

You'd have to be really careful when choosing a campsite because of the size of tent pads, etc. A newbie to camping may overlook that important detail and arrive to a site with barely space for tent, closeness of tent to firepit, etc.

The campground is pretty popular in the Coast so during peak seasons, it will get crowded.

The bathrooms are great and clean - showers are free and open all night. There is a toilet in the bathroom so it was great for families who ... multi-task (shower a kid while emptying bladders separately).

Our boys, aged 8 and 6, enjoyed the playground within the campground. The roads are paved so they were able to ride their bikes around the connected loops.

Bring a tent broom because there are pine trees everywhere! You may need to sweep before and after setting up your tent.

Good family campsite

Jessie M. Honeyman is an Oregon State Park just a few miles south of Florence, Or. 

We traveled in on a Wednesday at the beginning of June with friends, kids, and a canoe. We stayed through Saturday night and moved on up the coast to another site just outside of Newport. The park has a lot going for it -- especially if you have kids -- but it also has some deal-breaker drawbacks. As with a lot of other busy state parks, your experience will depend a lot on when you go, what site you book, and who happens to show up as your neighbors.

Pros:
• Very close proximity to Lake Cleawox and the boat house / facilities there. You don't leave the park to go from the camp sites to the lake. At the boat house, you can rent paddle boats ($7 / 30 mins, $10 / hr), canoes, or kayaks. You can also rent sandboards and zoom down the dunes on the far side of the rental facility. The setup is awesome and looks like an idyllic version of everyone's summer camp - real or imagined.
• Woahnik Lake, a much larger lake than Cleawox, is right across the street and offers a lot of options for more swimming, boating, and paddling. We saw two large groups of scuba divers while canoeing around the lake.
• Sand dune access. You can literally ride an ATV or quad from your camping site to the dunes, because the camp is adjacent to the Oregon sand dunes.
• Hot showers. 
• Super friendly rangers and staff.
• Large play structure in the sand for kids. Same thing you'd find in a city, but it's a nice option.
• Yurts. We stayed in #316. Staying in the yurts is a great all-weather option.

Cons:
• Campsites - tents, yurts, RVs - are crammed in. Some areas don't have good tree coverage (the closer you get to the dunes), and are wide open. You can see and hear your neighbors, so good luck.
• ATVs and quads. Because the site backs up to the dunes, it's ground zero for ATVs and quads. You hear them running at peak times on the weekend. The site attracts a lot of giant diesel trucks that idle through the camp site hauling their trailers, so it feels like you've set up camp right next to a trucker super highway.

Given how popular the spot is, the wildlife are very used to people, and you'll be marauded by cunning squirrels and chipmunks. Don't leave food out for a hot minute.

Don't stay in any site off the main branch to all the camping loops. Accessible yurt #404 is probably the best site in the entire campground.

Honeyman - Camp Cleawox, Lake Cleawox, and Woahink Lake

Jessie Honeyman State Park which is about a little over half way down the state coastline. Arriving after dark, we were pleasantly surprised to have water and electric hookups which were few and far between. We squeezed into our spot once again and sat by the campfire for a bit before hitting our pillows for the night. I believe that we were only on our site for 12 hours before it was time to go again.
The cool thing about Jessie Honeyman State Park was that you had the Pacific Ocean and all of the glorious rock cliffs, drift wood, tide pools, etc. then  these huge sand dune areas emerge right next to it for ATVs, motorcycles and even sand boards (like a snowboard).
 We let the kids swim in the lake nearby which seemed to be a very popular spot for youth camps and day use. Just what they needed before a long ride in the RV
We definitely missed out by not staying longer here. There were trails and many more activities in sand dunes and the lakes that we didn't take advantage of. Gotta go back one day!

It is about 2 miles from Florence right on Hwy 101. The yurts are nice. Dunes access is easy. The playground looks like it would be fun for kids. There was a car show in Florence that weekend. Your in a sandy area with lots of trees. As it got dark the wind picked up but it wasn't to bad. If your ADA you need to get a ADA space otherwise the bathrooms can be quite a walk. The trash cans are at the entrance. Very big camp park. 

Great camping place

This is our favorite place to camp. Places for campers and tents. Playground and shower in the park. Two lakes. Separate area for people with quads. Not far from the beach or town. Saw deer last time we stayed. Oh, and pet friendly! 

Great for all campers!

Looking for a last-minute camping spot on 4th of July weekend, we happened upon one last spot at Honeyman. With the knowledge that the campsites were tightly packed together and that ATV folks love the dunes, we were prepared for a noisy, cramped weekend. Thankfully, we were wrong! Despite the campsites being close together, each one is separated by thick bushes, giving plenty of privacy. The dunes were close, but not close enough to allow the noise of ATVs to ruin anything! A welcome center sells firewood, and there are bathrooms and showers in every loop. Cleawox Lake is within walking distance from most campsites, which was a lovely surprise. Canoes and paddle boats can be rented for only $10/hr, which allowed us time to fish and discover more of the lake.

Between our hammocks, the dunes, and the lake we kept plenty busy and very much enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this campground!

Surprisingly Private

The honeyman national park camp ground was very nice but if you want to glamp then it's definitely the place to go. But otherwise I would keep looking. All in all it was a great stay, near the ocean and lots of people.

We stayed at site 76\. The campground was big and a little to loud. There are yurts to stay in but you have to reserve them. There are no bugs but lots of crows which were loud. It wasn't the best but a nice quick spot to stay.

Honeyman State park is located approximately 5 miles south of Florence off Hwy 101.

**Campground review**

This state park is a giant campground with around 400 sites. It has a good layout, although some of the spots are right on top of each other not allowing for much privacy. I suggest finding a spot on the outer circle. They are usually more private and have more character.

Honeyman is super family friendly with lots of kids running around having fun and taking advantage of the bicycle rentals. It is located on Cleewox lake so they also offer canoe, kayak and pedal boat rentals. It is also a short 1 mile paved ADA certified trail to Woahink lake and day use area. Good for fishing and scuba diving.

I have stayed at this park numerous times and it does fill up quickly. Expect all kinds of campers from party campers, to family campers to the avid. Their facilities are newer and usually cleaned twice daily. They have hot showers and flush toilets, as well as water bibs and dish water troughs.

This is also a popular spot for dune buggys, so expect some motor noise and gearheads whooping it up. Lots to do and plenty of places to just hangout or swim by the lake.

I received this product nicely packaged with the AAA batteries included! Out of the box it is very easy to use, with one button operation. It also has a swivel bezel for zooming the light in and back out for a wider view. The bezel also easily tilts up and down for more control.

This unit has a high beam, low beam and s.o.s. functions. Both in standard white and red light. The toggle between the modes is easy and very user friendly.

If I had to pick one thing I don't like, is it is super bright. That would be very helpful in the deep woods when backpacking, but is a bit much for family campouts.

A great product all in all and I highly recommend.

**Campground review**

This is the earliest in the season that I have camped here. I was surprised not to find a lot of families and kids around. On the other hand since this is the season that they open another entrance to the dunes, there was quite a bit more OHV noise.

The site I stayed in was the best yet! (259) It was nice and somewhat private, nestled against the hill, with few neighbors and the dune access trail just twenty feet away. The bathrooms were a little further away than the other sites I stayed, but were different. They were smaller and the showers were private offering 3 all gender and one ADA. The facilities were a bit aged but maintained well, considering the season.

While I was there I tried to find activities that I had yet to experience. I found there was another trail just off of the ADA paved trail, to Woahink lake. It was a fairly easy 2 mi. hike that would be just fine for healthy adventurous kids and had many nice views of the lake.

As with all Mountain House meals one of the best features is making and eating the food right in its pouch, eliminating the need for cleanup. While these dinners are lightweight, they are also delicious and this meal doesn't disappoint.

The turkey had good mouth feel and you could taste the ingredients separately, but they come together nicely as a casserole. If you are one that likes to have your sides separate this might not be the meal for you. The flavor was better than expected! I say its as good as your friends mothers turkey dinner. This is another good meal from Mountain house and I highly recommend.

Ranger review: Mountain House -Turkey dinner casserole- at Jesse M. Honeyman State park

My sister and I were road-tripping down the 101 of WA, OR, and CA and making it up as we went. After looking through a list of Oregon campgrounds/State Parks, we settled on Honeyman since it had yurts available and it was forecasted to be a rainy night. The yurt was great and well taken care of. The campground was fairly empty and our site was private, though that was likely because we visited in late November. I would love to go back and explore the dunes and surrounding area more. Great place for an overnight stay and a good alternative to soaking all of our gear before heading further south.

Rainy Night on the 101 

Great mixture of wooded and more open sites. With kids, loop D is near the playground. And what a playground it is. The nicest we have seen. Sites were very clean. The short trip to the lake with the massive sand beach really makes honeyman one of a kind. Staff were excellent.

The perfect family campground 

This is our Go To Oregon State Park as we are within an hours drive.

Staff is friendly every visit and the visitor center is great with a lot of fun activities for kids. Don't forget to take advantage of the State Parks Junior Ranger Program and learn some fun facts about the park!

We love this campground and its ease of availability year round.

Our Favorite State Park in Florence

Family-friendly, hike to the dunes

Huge campground with really spacious sites. It gets very busy in the summer so make sure you book in advance. Good showers and bathrooms but there is a TON of ATV noise.

One of my favs!!

The hike and bike area is secluded and quiet, but it is also difficult to reach.  You must take a dirt trail that can be muddy and slick on rainy days. Nice clean restrooms and showers.  Campground can be loud at times from people coming for the nearby dunes. Campground has yurts.

There is so much fun to be had here! From the Sand dunes, fun hikes, Woahink Lake and summer activities we highly recommend booking in advance for this family friendly campground in summer! Staff is friendly, Park is very clean, and spots are spacious.

What a fun place!

We were lucky to snag a site with electrical hookups here on a Friday without reservations. (there were plenty of tent only sites). This was one of few campgrounds we visited that had staff at the check-in booth; we appreciated that we were allowed to check out available sites before making a commitment (you can do this with unstaffed Oregon state park campgrounds as well). There are a lot of trees but we could still see stars at night. Our site was a little bit of a hike to the bathroom which was not too bad but there was only cold water and the hand dryers blew COLD air only (and since it was chilly at night, I would have appreciated warm air!). This campground is good if you want access to the dunes. Unfortunately, the dunes are heavily used by ATV riders. We are not ATV fans so we ended up visiting Cape Perpetua, about 45 minutes north instead.

Good option for mid-coast camping

Dunes are close so lots of atv peeps. Since they have trailer them out you don’t have the noise that you get at Riley or Horsfall. Overall a nice park and a good spot to set up if you want to hike, swim, paddle or ride atvs. 

Nice spot for the night

I camped here twice this year. Once in June in the Hiker/Biker area, and again in July in a regular site. The experiences couldn't have been more different.

  

Hiker/Biker is fairly segregated from the rest of camp. The access point is actually before the entry to the main campground itself. My first visit left me surprised at the beauty of the camp. It feels like it is in the wilderness despite being less than a few miles from Florence's cool Old Towne.

  

The trees here are big, and the ground cover lush with ferns. The trails are canopied by Rhododendrons. Nature paths lead off to Cleawox and Woahink lakes. Sand dunes abut the west side of camp. They seem endless, and otherworldly. At Cleawox Lake day use area there are paddleboats, boards and water toys for rent by the day or hour. Sand boards are available from a temporary space set up in the day use parking area. 

  

On my first visit the entry Ranger station was closed but the Welcome Yurt was open. Maps, advice, firewood, a lending library was available. 

  

Honeyman Camp is huge. When I was there in early June it made for a lovely exploration, and seemingly great spaces between campers. In late July the vibe had completely changed. Each of the several hundred spaces was occupied by a seemingly large family with 5 kids to every adult, or 25 belligerently drunk RV campers who felt the need to blast Fleetwood Mac. 

  

That second visit, in the main campground, made it very clear that your experience here will depend on the quality of people choosing to stay in the same park. All the amenities were the same, but despite it's size, a campsite with stereo speakers set to full boar are hard to ignore even when you're on the other side of camp. Now multiply that by several campsites per loop.

  

One thing of note: Each campsite is issued a set of rules, including "Quiet Hours". Unlike some other sites in which hosts ignored those rules in an attempt to avoid confrontation the hosts here were on top of it. For as obnoxious as the camp was at 9:45pm, by 10:15 it was silent, and we were able to enjoy the remains of a campfire and view of the stars in the slight clearing between trees.

Great campground for the family! Lots to do and places to explore. Easy drive to the beach, walk to the lake for a swim, head to the sand dunes for some fun. 

Family fun

After camping at damp Olympic National Park campgrounds, we decided on a more southern spot last year. Honeyman has become our go to camp ground for late-summer car Camping with the kids. The weather stays sunny and warm longer than the northern regions of Oregon/Washington coast. Nice amenities including hot showers - which are a welcome convenience after spending the day playing in the dunes ( Sand cookie anyone?). The sites are relatively small but fit our two large tents and cars. The kids enjoyed roaming in the forested stretches between the camp grounds. Best of all, the dunes and lake are a short walk away. 

Convenient Glamping Spot

As mostly a mountain camper i have one to this wonderful place once a year early July with my kid and her friends.

 Its a large sprawling campground..loops along a central entry road( which some goobers high from the dunes go way too fast). The staff are cool and the camp sites a good bit more private and large that up 101 at Beverley Beach.

 Good wood and good firestarters available at the welcome center, Its a great place for kids..just a short hike to Lake Woalink..which during the day has boat/canoe/kayak/paddle board rental..its not as good as before though..they also do sand board rental as this state park has the biggest and best sandboard dune.

 This is a VERY busy and noisy park but after 10 PM it quietens down..and i used to do midnight tours of the lake..were to my kids excitement we found turtles and salamanders in the flash light beam. A great park for young families

Family Friendly

I have been camping here for 25+ years now I get to take my daughter there and we love every minute of it the lake, the dunes, bike riding scooters. The staff is great and the facilities are always clean it’s a must-see park.

Special and unique landscape right in the center of Oregon Dunes. We love it here. Located close to the quant town of Florence. Lots of nearby hikes, beach access, and of course the dunes. Enjoy! 

Oregon Dunes at Your Doorstep

I recently spent two days at Honeyman State Park near Florence, Oregon.  The first site I had I could not back into.  I’m new at this so that was a factor.  I talked to a ranger who found another spot for me.  I really appreciated the help I received.  Because it was on the coast, it was cool and windy.  Park was clean, there were loops closed because of the virus but restrooms were open and clean.  I’m not sure I would stay at this state park again mainly because of the surroundings....mostly dunes; but at least I got to visit.

Honeyman State Park, Oregon

There's a lot of construction in some loops right now (08/2020), but the park is beautiful. Access to Woahink and Cleawox lakes and a beautiful, mossy forest makes this a great park on its own. Access to the nearby Oregon dunes is restricted in the spring and summer, but direct the rest of the year. Note to pet owners: we spotted a rough-skinned newt working its way through our site - they are poisonous if licked or eaten! Be careful what site you book if tent camping - not all sites are large enough.

Had a full hookup (including sewage) and wish we had stayed there a few more days. It was perfect!!

Great campsite!!!

BUT I LOVED IT! I don’t know why I thought I wouldn’t like this campground, but it proved me wrong. Picnic table and fire pit. Bathrooms were super close. It’s a huge campground so it took us a minute to pick a spot because there were so many. Would recommend and would come back.

Traditional state park with everything you need. The large forest filled campsites feel private and there’s a number of very nice walks right from camp. The water was gorgeous. The day use park and campground are both well kept. Not many campers here in March. It’s a short drive to Florence from here, but not walking distance. 

Forest camping near Florence

We came here on a Saturday in early May and easily found a spot for the night with no reservations.  Walk up sites are available for that night only due to online reservations.

  

This is a huge campground with many loops, and it is easy to get lost.  It's beautiful and the sites are of varying privacy and length.  Some sites are more level than others.  Our spot, #162, was long enough for our 26ft motorhome and was level.

  

This campground appears to be popular with large families and groups who come here to get away for the weekend and let their kids run wild.  Kids on scooters, bikes, skateboards, you name it, all running up and down the paths and through empty campsites having a blast.  Also, though we picked a loop away from the dunes, we heard plenty of ATVs riding all over through the campground.

  

Beautiful place but I think it must be nicer and more peaceful mid week.

  

There is a dump station on the way out, as well as trash and recycling bins, and a separate bin for glass recycling and one for propane canister recycling.  There are showers but we did not use them here.

  

Decent but slow cell service.  We had to run our cell booster to download photos and to stream movies.

  

Lots of shade so if you rely on solar power you may want to get a site with power.

Kids, ATVs, and mosquitos 

The staff were very friendly and helpful. My campsite was clean, spacious, and honestly in a pretty sweet spot. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay because my family and I most certainly are. Lot's of trails, there's fishing, showers, also their pet friendly.

Perfect

Honeyman is a great campground.  It is quite large with at least half a dozen loops of campsites.  The sites include everything from basic campsite up to yurts.

There is a great playground near the center of camp and the nearby day use area has dune access for climbing and playing as well as a small lake.

Pre-pandemic it was possible to rent kayaks and paddleboats to use on the lake.  I don't know if that has opened back up yet or not.

  

We have been many times and look forward to another trip there later this year.

Big campground near the dunes

I had a pretty sweet creekside corner lot. Meaning only one neighbor and these people were loud AF. I said something and the girl sent her dude to confront me and I felt very awkward after that. They proceeded to talk loudly at me and to me for the two days I was there. I just ignored them.

Otherwise the campsite itself was muddy and all my stuff got extra dirty but oh well right. Firewood is only available for a few hours 3-7 pm I believe so plan ahead. Being June the mosquitos enjoyed my blood. The two types of repellent I brought failed me. Day trips to the old town for coffee and to see the sites. Day trip to the dunes. It was crazy windy but beautiful. Lots of water and dunes to play on.

That being said the campground is noisy with ATV noise.

Muddy but hey you're camping, expect noise.

Site was really big. Sites had privacy and weren’t super close together. Lots of old growth trees and the roads through the campground and campsites were paved. Bathhouse was really clean and had ADA stalls. Water pressure was decent it just took a couple minutes to get hot and you had to keep pushing the button to make the water keep running. My site had a paved path right to the bathhouse. Neighbors were pretty quiet. From my site you can hear traffic noise from highway 101 since it ran parallel to the road but it was pretty quiet at night. Loved the nearby lakes. Nice campground to walk through. Really shaded.

I'm a solo camper, but if I was going with family, THIS would be the place. Sand dunes to slide down, a lake to swim in, tons and tons of kids riding around on their bikes (be careful driving!) 

  

It was nice to come here during the Heat Dome of 2021. The weather was perfect for wading in the lake. I took my kayak out. Hiked on the dune trail and didn't see anyone. 

  

Unfortunately, my site backed right up to a very popular path to the bathroom and had kids riding their bikes up and down, up and down, up and down. I didn't feel like I had any privacy. I even had a little girl come into my campsite and ask if I had kids. 

  

I did enjoy hanging out at the lake all day and watching everyone play in the lake and snowboard(?) down the sand dunes.

Great for Families

Stayed numerous times in the hiker/biker section. Pre-COVID was $5, but price has been raised to $8. They do offer hot showers. Campground is huge. It doesn't offer close beach access. There are miles of dunes separating camp from the coast.  

  

Stayed here again in July 2021. Camp area is clean. Potable water available right in hiker/biker section, which is separate from the car-camping area. Group fire pit and several picnic tables in this section as well.

Love these hiker/biker sites

I love Florence! Just 5 minutes away from old town for great coffee shop under the bridge and great margaritas at the travelers cove and gateway to the coast trails. This campground is great for bird, mushrooms, walks, even paddle bots at nearby cleowox lake. Rangers were helpful finding a spot for my needs: quiet tent site away from the crowd. It does get filled up on weekends with families and some sites more private than others so just ask to drive thru and pick your spot first. Yurts and hook ups available too. State park 

Coastal rainforest sandune wonderland 

This is the coolest campsite on the Oregon dunes that I’ve been going to my entire life, I haven’t found one better. This place is so special, it’s often very populated but everyone always has been friendly and respects the noise level. The bathrooms always are clean and well kept with cleaners daily. The campsites are level and nice to sleep to sleep in a tent on. The dunes are in short walking distance with a lake where you can swim or rent paddle boats. Climb the sand dunes and try or watch the few people who try to surf down the sand dunes from the big dune… it’s amusing for hours! The dunes are so soft and the weather is hot enough some days in the summer to go swimming. I highly suggest this campsite! 

Magical place to camp! 

I love coming here, our campsite was close to others but there are so many options for different campgrounds, view the pictures of the site before booking. After experiencing really disrespectful fellow campers in bigger campsites, after quiet hour we had a neighbor try to hide their generator up in the woods above our campsite, I was happily surprised to call the help desk and ask if they could come address this, and they did! The ranger was an angel, he politely told them to turn it off despite them being completely drunk and disrespectful. He then checked back 3-4 times to make sure they followed the rules. Our night would’ve been ruined if it wasn’t for him. For fire safety as well… it wasn’t okay to run a generator deep in the woods. They handled it very well. Thank you! 

A family favorite 

Stayed in H Loop with our RV while other family was close by in G Loop. Second year coming for the big family trip. Sites are roomy and clean. Bathrooms were adequate but the showers are only push button and can’t be adjusted. Garbage dump is pretty far from our site but not a big deal. Lots of kids playing and having fun everywhere.
