## Overview

 Big Rock Campground has 28 individual wooded sites, each with a picnic table, tent pad and turnout for parking. Eight sites share a common parking area, while most other sites have suitable parking space available for small trailers and motorhomes. Water, electrical and sewage connections are not provided. Campsites are available on a first-come, first serve basis and reservations.

 A variety of recreational opportunities exsist nearby which include; swimming, fishing, hiking, picnicking, sight-seeing and pleasure driving.

## Natural Features

 The name \_\_\_Big Rock\_\_\_ was dervied from a large prominent rock which is visable shortly after entering the campground. Big Rock campground is a developed recreation area administered by the USDA Forest Service. A fee is charged for the use of this area and is collected through a self-service pay system. The campgrounds are conveniently located near Interstate 93 in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest on the scenic Kancamagus Highway.\_\_

Big Rock

There are 2 Big Rock Campgrounds in NH and they are very different! This is not the resort campground convenient to ATV trails, but a rustic campground offering large, level, wooded sites along the Kancamagus Highway just 2 miles east of the Lincoln Woods Visitor Center. It's a great location for exploring the sites and beautiful vistas along the Kancamagus, easy access to Franconia Notch and Lincoln, NH. Lincoln also offers a grocery store, restaurants, stores selling outdoor gear, moose tours, and adventure tours (zip/climbing).

Some of the sites are tent only, with parking separated from the tent pad/fire ring/picnic table. Others are large and level with ample space for RVs. You'll get some traffic noise, but there's less here than at places along 3 &amp; 93.

There are no reservations; all sites are first-come, first serve and it's open from mid-May to mid-October. Bring cash or a check to pay for your campsite. It's self-service with an iron ranger. Fee (2018) is $22, an extra $5 for a second car.

Water is available. There are vault toilets and no showers. No cell phone service.

WMNF rustic campground on the Kanc 

First come first serve off the Kancamagus Highway on the Lincoln side. Pick your site and pay (cash or
check) using the envelopes provided. 

Stayed here before we hiked the Hancocks. Had to find the caretaker, but he was friendly. 

Sites were clean, we went off season so we had the whole place to ourselves. Would go again! 

Hikers Paradise

This campground is small - only 28 sites and all appeared to be clean and well maintained. They were spaced apart from each other and were good sizes.  Some had stairs going to the site.
My dog and I spent the night here while in NH for some hiking.  It was quiet and the (composting) bathrooms were clean. There was clean drinking water available.  
There are two Big Rock campgrounds - this one is in the White Mountains &amp; near the town of Lincoln.  This was very close to some great hiking trails. 


No frills

Nice place to stay 

One of the greatest features of this campground, aside from being in the White Mountains, is that each site is very large, often terraced.  Several of the sites in the loop had steps approaching the tent area, either up or down.  

  

The campground host was found immediately upon entry to this campground, past the self-pay station. Water spigots were found throughout this campground with each site having a picnic table and firepit.  Also interesting was that this campground had several LARGE solar panels inside the campground....what they were used for was unclear.  

  

It was almost a 4-star campground, but with pit toilets, no showers and no cell service, it was just simple - perfect to stay a night or two!
