Great place for friends and family to meet. Much nicer with a higher water level.
Be careful!!! Almost got stuck in the sand while trying to find a spot level enough to park. Many people had dug out around their trailer to get the slides out. Several people used construction generators to power their rigs. Stayed for a weekend. Had a hard time leaving the trailer due to sand in the wind flying at high rates of speed. No hook ups, they do have a dump station and community water faucets. Vault toilets in many locations, no designated camping spaces. Just find a spot where you fit.
Rye Patch SRA is the perfect layover spot when driving through NV. There are sites for tent camping, rv camping with and without hookups, and group camping that I saw. I have made a video that shows the fee schedule (make sure to pay or you will get fined), the sites, etc. Hope you find it helpful.
Cell reception with Verizon is spotty…
It's a reservoir with a lot of RVs, 4x4s that have driven up to the lakeside, and an outdoor stage was cranking music just a few miles away.
It wasn't a bad place to stop, however, on the drive from Nor Cal (away from the fires and smoke) on the way to Yellowstone. People were kayaking and fishing, and a few had some classic 1990s slow jams to set the mood (if that's your thing).
A family friendly place that's worth a stop in the middle of the Nevada desert.
Sites are basic, which is fine by me. Sites are spread out and you have privacy from your neighbors. Sites have a picnic bench and a fire pit. There are Porta potties.
Today 9/14/2020 extremely smoky air from surrounding fires. Pesky annoying swarming bugs in the evening.
3 bars for ATT 3G 2 bars for Verizon 3G
You must go through the main entrance to the Fort Churchill historical site to enter this campground. DO NOT drive down the gravel road that runs along the river. There is no camping at the historical site, only in Samuel Buckland Campground. It’s very nicely laid out, with some pull through and back in spots. No hook ups, vault toilets. $5 firewood at the Fort Churchill entrance, but no burning allowed at this time. We were nicely surprised to have water spigots at the sites (not hook ups). First come first served $15 per night and very quiet at night for a good sleep. Verizon cell service was not good.
This is the perfect hidden lake down in the canyon. A very beautiful spot for fishing, deer and turkey watching. The sites aren’t right on top of each other, and they allow plenty of space for each site. This is definitely on my list to come back to.
Nice little spot to stop, with the river right by the campground, which I loved waking up to. A little difficult to navigate if you arrive after dark, but not bad. The view of the stars was amazing!
Pleasant campground just a few miles off I-80. Most sites provide shade. An oasis in the desert.
Great spot for rv camping for a fun weekend of riding atv’s and dirt bikes on the dunes!
