## Overview

 Lodgepole Campground is a large facility situated along a scenic highway in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. Across the street is Georgetown Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating and water sports. Please note, this campground IS NOT within Sequoia National Park. 
## Recreation

 Postcard-perfect Georgetown Lake is a prime destination for fishing and fly fishing with kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout being the most sought-after species. Canoeing and boating are also popular activities. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers will find no shortage of trails within a few miles of the campground.\_\_ It is illegal to target Bull Trout, if caught they must be released immediately with minimal handling. Participants must have Montana licenses to hunt or fish. 
## Facilities

 This facility is one of the larger campgrounds in the lake area with 29 units available for tent and RV camping. 19 sites can be reserved in advance during the summer season and 10 sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is conveniently located across the street from Georgetown Lake, though there is no direct lake access from the site but Red Bridge Boat Launch is walking distance away. If you camp at Lodgepole Campground there is no charge for using the boat launch/day use area.\_\_\_\_ 
## Natural Features

 Georgetown Lake boasts more than 3,000 acres of cool mountain waters at an elevation of 6,000 feet. It is surrounded by the sometimes snow-covered Flint Creek Range to the north and the Pintlers to the south. Lodgepole Campground derives its name from the long and slender Lodgepole pines, which surround the area. The lake area is also home to abundant wildlife, including moose, elk, white-tailed deer and even bighorn sheep.

Lodgepole Campground

We passed through the area while driving on route 1 and decided to spend the night here because it was clean and quiet and relatively cheap at $15 per night. The sites are shaded and large enough for RVs. We stayed on a weeknight in July and there were 10 other campers.   

  

There are pit toilets and faucets with water, but that's about it. You can gather downed wood for campfires, and there is plenty of it. Georgetown Lake is nearby, but we didn't have the opportunity to explore it properly. There is no direct access from the campground.  

  

Of the 31 sites in the campground, 20 are reservable on recreation.gov.  We heard a pack of coyotes loud and clear in the night, and we saw a lone elk in the distance. While we enjoyed our stay at Lodgepole, it seems like more of a drive-by campground. I imagine that it is also an overflow campground for people visiting Georgetown Lake.

Clean and Quiet Campground for a Quick Overnight

Lodgepole campground is a nice sized campground sitting in a forest of mature lodgepole pines.  Campground has 31 sites, 20 of which can be reserved.  Campground has nicely spaced campsites given you plenty of room to spread out.  The campground is paved and has several clean outhouses.  All sites have a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Water is available.  Bear lockers are located through out the campground for food storage.  Campground is not on the lake, but plenty of lake access is nearby.  While the campground is just off the highway, it is lightly traveled so noise was not a problem.  Campground is nicely priced at $15 a night.
