Berryman Trail & Campgrounds - Mark Twain National Forest

Came here to experience the Ozarks. We were not disappointed. The campground was part of the Civilian Conservation Corp camp. It's remote and off the beaten path. A small campground with only 8 spots, some big enough for RVs. No hook ups or water. Pack it in and pack it out. Each site had enough space from each other. Some sites had a picnic table. There was a pond we found right behind our site. There was also a large picnic shelter at the campground. Clean pit toilets. The trailhead to the BerryMan Trail is there. This is a 24 mile trail we backpacked overnight to the Brazil Creek campground and back. Only ones on the trail. Just left our van overnight in the lot instead of the campground and felt completely safe. Lots of flowers on the trail. Someone put up a flag. Didn't find Bigfoot, (although we were warned by some locals at the campground :) There were some horses and riders around the campground. We would definitely come back to this place.

Remote. Beautiful. Free!

Off the beaten path, with only one vault toilet, and zero amenities. The serenity would be worth the work to pack in and out everything you need, including water. Some great trees and good cinfigurations for Tentile tree tents!!

Quite and secluded

**Berryman Campground** is a lot like many of the dispersed campsites in Kentucky. You run through a visitor center in the area and get your permit then go find a campsite and set up your base camp.

No anemities here. Including the pit toilet which smells so ripe I would much rather use my hand trowel to dig a pit to use! You can bring your cell phone however it will pretty much be a paper weight until you return to civilization.

Pavillion, parking and horse tie out area adjacent trailhead.

Excellent place to bring the kids if you want to unplug them from the media world. Trails and bugs and things that go bump in the night. Pack the marshmallows and leave the electronics at the house.

Down a dirt road

This 8 site campground has well kept vault toilets and no other services, but is fee-less to match. There is a pavilion near the access points to the Berryman and Ozark trails. We camped the night before heading out on a one night backpacking trip on the Berryman and were pleasantly surprised - it had rained the past 2 days and just finished when we arrived, but the ground was not soggy at the campsite or really much on the trail at all. The sites are well spaced apart, short pads so we saw one couple park their camper on one and their truck on another (the sites were not anywhere near full). Downside to that was, they ran their loud generator all night. However the experience overall was a positive one, with friendly neighbors but plenty of distance between so we didn't cross paths or hear each other's conversations unless we wanted to, a nice fire ring - check before selecting a site as ours was missing a grate; we didn't need one anyhow, a sturdy picnic table and plenty of down wood around to collect for a fire. We will be back!!

No fees, no water, plenty of beauty and space

This is a great free campground, no water or anything, just a toilet house. Campground has 8 spots, two of which were taken, one in the front, one in the back. We stayed at one of the middle sites which was nice and spacious. There was a trail leading down to a pond at the site across from us. The bugs here were a little worse than average, but not so much that I didn't get to enjoy myself.

  

What DID prevent me from enjoying myself was the family staying at the front of the campground. They had quite a set up, and also a dog in a cage under a blanket, and a child who was either kept or stayed inside their small RV. We heard the parents yell at both the dog and the child. The child screamed and cried, to the point where it was worrisome that these parents were abusing him/her. We were considering staying two nights, but there was more screaming in the morning, so we left. The people at the back spot came back after dark and left at first light.

  

There was a trailhead by the horse stall/parking area, but we didn't hike. This would have been an INCREDIBLY LOVELY visit if not for the troublesome family.

very nice campground, unfortunate guests

This campground is completely free and most of all well spaced out. There is plenty of room to keep to yourself and remain undisturbed between the 8 available spots. Far from the road so no noise or blaring light. Nearby are a variety of trails of varying lengths. The gravity toilet is well maintained but no access to water. Very few bars so don’t expect to get any service and you won’t be disappointed. We will be back!

Free & Spacious

The campsites are good size and great for tents and hammocks. AT&amp;T and Sprint have only enough service to make calls at the sites. Prescribed burn closed all the trails at the trailhead so we took a drive up to Brazil Creek trailhead. The trails there were one of a kind and the best looking trails I’ve seen and walked on after going on trips to almost half the country. The 100 foot tall pine trees really make Mark Twain National Forest amazing. Overall, great campground and will be going back soon. 

Beautiful Trails 

Stayed 1 night and it was very enjoyable. Clean bathroom. Pretty creek right behind campsite. Enjoyable walking trails. 

Brazil Creek Free Camping 

If you're wanting a ton of privacy, this campground isn't for you. In a great location, especially if you're coming from the north and this is an overnight stop before you head farther south. Did a short walk on some of the trails for hiking/biking/riding and they seemed great. Well kept area with a fire ring and table, vault toilets but no water. Would recommend.
