Bishop Lake Campground

Campground Review:

Bishop Lake is a great campground located in the middle of the Brighton Rec Area.  The upper and lower campgrounds are both modern, with every site including electric.  There are two rustic campgrounds as well down the road.  When we went to go get a campsite (you can reserve online for an $8 fee) they told us that the upper campground would be the better choice, due to the heavy rain that had come through earlier.  It was the perfect choice!  Our campsite was spacious, with a few pine trees for shade.  If you have a hammock, the outer edge of campsites would be perfect.  Only downside to our campsite was the distance between the picnic table and the fire pit.  The bathrooms and showers are in the lower campground, but it’s a 5 minute walk or 30sec drive to them.  They were clean, stocked with toilet paper and the showers were warm.  There’s a ton of hiking trails, a boat launch and boat rental, as well as the beach and inflatable water park.  Overall a great little nature spot in the middle of the Brighton area.  

Gear Review:
As a ranger for The Dyrt, I sometimes get sent awesome gear that I could use and try for my upcoming trip.  This time I got to try the equinox hoodie from Eclipse Sun Products (https://eclipseglove.com/collections/all-eclipse-sun-products/products/equinox-hoodie-beach-cover-up).  This hoodie is super super lightweight, and the open sides allow for a nice breeze on hot days.  Of course, their main feature is the 50+ UPF fabric used in not just the hoodie, but all of Eclipses sun products.  I am a melanoma survivor, so having something lightweight, but protective, is so great.  It’s one size fits all, and while it fits me great at 5’5, I have also heard from other taller people that it fits them great as well.  It does the job well, and while I live in Michigan and it only got to about 75°, I could feel it keeping the sun off my skin.  Totally recommend the equinox hoodie!!

Ranger Review: Eclipse Equinox Hoodie at Bishop Lake Campground

This campground has many different activities to keep you well entertained, plenty of hiking trails, lots of lakes to fish, fish from your camp site if you are able to reserve a site on the water, there are canoe's to rent or bring your own. Swimming, and picnicking area's with modern bathrooms and showers. The campground has nice grassy soft sites, plenty of shaded sites. Modern bathroom with showers, they were unfortunately not clean all the time, and the showers did not have hot water for most of our visit so showering was not possible after the first night of a three night stay. This is why I gave a 4 star. Campground was quiet during our visit no loud campers. A short walk from all sites in the campground is a small play area with swings, ladder ball, and corn hole sets, you have to check out the balls, and bean bags from the office.

Great Camping for everyone!

Great campground. Bathhouse is always clean, staff is always smiling! Harvest festival during the month of October is our family’s favorite tradition! Site decorating contest, pumpkin carving competition, family dance party, haunted trail, trick-or-treating and so much more! Lots of trails to hike, all camping season long. Great fire pits and very spacious sites. Host site often has scavenger hunts and bird watching hikes for the kids.

Feel like a kid again!

It was our first time camping dry but super easy to learn.  Nice place pretty full. Nice bathrooms. Great Lake.  

State Park- nice lake

It’s. Connected but costs money. $15 for a 45 minute jump session.  Follow on Facebook for coupons. You can also just swim at the lake- nice area with shade trees beach and nice lake water. We brought a cooler and ordered ice cream from concessions. 

Jump Island

The campgrounds restrooms and showers were clean. Our campsite had a view of the lake, but no shade. The beach was nice but you have to walk a trail to get to it from the campground or drive. Nice walking trails. Our favorite was the lake for kayaking.

Bishop Lake

Awesome 

Spacious sites but neighbor is still a bit close and totally visible. Our site has lake views, #83. Very pretty. Drive on dirt road to get here. Saw lots of fire flies! Safe for kids to run and ride bikes around. Vending machines available. Perfect stopover on our long drive. 

Pretty but busy 

Great campground.  We camped in the upper campground over looking the lake. The lower campground is more open and little shade. You have to walk a short distance to the beach but while worth it.

BRIGHTON RECREATIONAL AREA 

Lots of sites, LOTS of things to do, great website, great Easter recreation. It's a little attorney, but the facilities are amazing, well-kept, and we'll managed. It's also pretty quiet, despite being pretty busy.

Grey's the job done

It was alright. Our neighbors across from us had 30 kids using one fire pit. (They had 6 sites together) and were up past midnight running around. Our fire ring was so close to the road. The bathrooms are pretty far away as there is only one building. The lake and trails were great. 

This was a great campground! There is so much to do. Wonderful amenities.
