South Campground — Chicot State Park

    Bayou Country

Very clean well maintained camp sites and cabins. Fishing, canoeing and hiking trails are available as well as splash pad for the kids. I’ve been going here all my life and even though a live a couple states away now. It’s my go to place to stay when I return. There is showers available as well. Grocery store 6 miles where you can purchase wood as well.

    Chicot State Park

Great camping in the heart of La

We stopped at this campground for one night on our way home. Some of the sites are close together, but we called and they put us in a spot that was very spacious. There were almost no other campers there so it helps to go in the middle of the week. The staff was very friendly and they had a great hiking path and playground for our 5 year old. I biked most of the paved roads in the state park and was able to go 13 miles without doubling anywhere. The cabins looked great from the outside and are located right on the lake. There is a long fishing pier and boat rentals. This is definitely one we will return to. Also, it is located very close to a lot of antique shopping which my wife wouldn’t let me pass up on my way home.

    White Oak Parish Park Campground

    Great Find

Our RV GPS and Waze took us right to White Oak Park. We went directly to pull through site 6 with FHUs. All sites are pull-throughs and the 3 FHUs nearest the bathhouse have long pads(easily fit our 40” 5th wheel and F450 plus are more spacious than their 5 water and electric sites. All the sites have a really nice stand-up barbecue and their own trash can. Water pressure was good at 50 psi and we had no issues with utilities. There are some trees, but we were able to get a north sky shot for Starlink. We got 2 bars on Verizon. There’s a playground and a boat ramp into the river not far away. Right about dusk when the mosquitos started coming out, a spray truck came in, which was nice. The campground (CG) host who lives in the Thibodeau house across from site 6, came by to get one of our driver’s license numbers as check-in. Two roosters were running around the CG that started crowing at about 3:00 AM. Our Riley friends had suggested this quaint little 8-site CG and we wished we had stayed more than just overnight in this quaint little city park.

South Campground — Chicot State Park

    SUPERB

We were there November 5th and basically had the whole campground to ourselves. (there were probably 6 other campers scattered around the park). Our site was huge and even if there were other campers we would not have been able to see them.

Not the easiest park to get to but well worth it. At dusk the mosquitoes came out but what do you expect staying in a Louisiana bayou?? Had decent cell coverage w/ T-mobile (3 bars). Have some great trails throughout the park (mainly at the north campground)

    beach camping

Great spot to pull over your car to park on the sand. Lots of other RVs but not crowded and theres a long stretch of hard packed sand that i was able to access without a truck or RV. More people showed up around 5 but stayed a bit and left. Quiet night and morning.

anyone I talked to was friendly but reiterated it wasn't safe to swim, kind of disappointing but oh well.

One review here mentioned mosquitoes and its true, spent about an hour before bed slapping myself silly from all the ones that had gotten inside.

overall really easy place to pull up to, really pretty.

    Mosquitos ruin it

The views are alright and it’s nice to have free beach access and a few amenities but I have never seen such thick clouds of mosquitos in my life. Made the grave mistake of opening the van door at night and spent the next TWO DAYS hunting down hundreds of mosquitos in our van from those two seconds. It was a nightmare.

Nice park. Lanes are labeled clearly, so our spot was super easy to find after hrs. Clean and spacious pull-thru. Heated pool. Nice folks run the park. Pretty quiet even though it's right off the I10.

    Perfect I-10 / I-49 stop

We do not like to get too far off of our route. Bayou Wilderness is 4.5 miles from I-49 just north of I-10. The park is exceptionally well maintained. The pool is nice and there is a playground next to the pool. The Laundry/Bath House is clean and the bathrooms are modern. There are three separate bathrooms with a toilet and a shower. The laundry has 6 washers ($2.00) and 6 working dryers ($2.50). This is an excellent overnight stay with FHU. It is worth it. I I travel south again I would plan this stop on my route.

Our plans changed. Our refund is in a credit to be used at a later date. Bummer. Guess I lost that $45.

    Surprisingly Nice

Small little area on the river with nice pull through sites and some additional parking. We just needed a place to park the van for the night and it stormed one of the worsts nights we have stayed out in . 2 bath houses , cleanish . Boat ramp access to the river . If you find Gloria’s Kitchen she will cook you whatever you want .. would stay here again , not far off I-10

    Boondocking on the Gulf coast.

Our trailer has narrow tires that are hard to pull on most beaches. The sand here packs well and supports our camper. You will need to be self contained. No hookups here. There are port-a-potties and sometimes food trucks on weekends.

    Nice spot to camp

The sand is packed hard enough to pull a trailer right onto the beach. Plenty of room and there are dumpsters, an outside shower and a water spigot. The kids loved fishing right from camp.

    No road noise.

It only 5 miles from Interstate 10

Sites 1-12 Have the least pot holes in the roadway.

Site 4 has a large wood swing at pond’s edge

$8 transaction fee which basically cancelled out the $7 veteran discount

Wristbands that had to be worn at all times. We never encountered any wristband police so we didn’t wear.

Campground road in horrendous condition with non stop pot holes

Only 2 women’s and 2 men’s toilets for the entire park which are in the pool house. Since we didn’t see any other on the campground map we inquired at the welcome center/office/store and they confirmed those are it for the park.

    Site#22 not level

Our campfire ring was under the next sites camper slide out, so totally unuseable

    New Remodel

They did a fantastic job putting in the new Campground with full hook ups and extra large sites! Bath house is close by but we honestly didn’t use it. Nice wide hiking/biking trails, lots of water access, beautiful new bridges and a nice big playground. We will definitely revisit!

    Palmetto Island State Park

Nice park , but not my favorite

We arrived at this park on a Thursday . It was fine, although the restrooms were extremely far from our site. They were very clean . We also used their nice laundry facilities. On Friday , the crowds started to arrive. We learned many locals frequent this campground. By evening, the park was full . Groups being a bit rowdy and playing music very loud. We are not prudes but I really don’t want to be 8 sites away and hear blasting music. Over all the week days I think would be a little quieter . Sites we large. Ours had a bit of vegetation to separate us from neighboring sites.

Clean, neat and an American flag at each site

William is the on-site manager, he is a great guy that cares about the campground and the campers. Big pull throughs and the cost is 12 bucks a night! Power and water.
